Fry was a coach that, when he first took over at Iowa, he stated that if he didn't tkae Iowa to a bowl game in four years, he would step down as Head Coach, well, he not only sent them to a bowl game, he sent them to the Rose Bowl, fulfilling his promise, although they didn't win the game.
I've met Coach Fry several times over the years, and he was always extremely nice. He always took time to ask if I enjoyed the game, he signed autographs, posed for photos, and even cracked a joke or two. If ever Hayden Fry got mad during his tenure at Iowa, he had a very good reason! Jim King should be ashamed of himself. In fact, it "chaps me to no end" that he would suggest Hayden didn't belong in the Big 10. There's a reason Jim never made it out of small market TV!
I met coach Fry once at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City. He was the nicest guy. He talked for a while with my brother and me, and signed autographs. It was one of the highlights of my life as an Iowa fan.
My dad took me to a hawkeye game back in the day when Hayden was the coach (one of many) my dad and i where down standing by the goal post and here comes Hayden. he shook my hand and said " enjoy the game little darling" at that time i was not even sure who he was, but as i got older and began to get to know the Iowa program..i than really began to cherish that moment. He is a good man and was a heck of a coach.
Hayden was a standup man and is still loved for how he ressurected a failed program at Iowa. Nearly everyone of his main coaches went on to coach in the NFL or at upper colleges...for example...Stoops and even Ferentz just to name two. He's a legend in this state and will always be loved. The Big 10 needs another Coach Hayden.
Well, as you can see in my comment, I wasn't talking about censoring information. I was talking about how he was being "attacked" by those he thought were giving either half-truths or only giving negative information.
You are right that Hayden wanted it fair and sqaure. The point of his comments were to relay that it wasn't, in fact, fair and square.
Just look at all the coaches he produced that were assistants under him at Iowa. Bob Stoops, Kirk Ferentz, Bill Snyder, and Barry Alverez just to name a few. Gotta love the mustache too
I kind of want to contact that number and tell them to "suck it" even though I know this was twenty years ago.

LOL. Wow, I can't believe how bad this interviewer wants to be Andy Rooney. Hayden Fry went through the tough times and them some.
There's a reason this reporter isn't well known. He attacks good people.

And the guy at Wisc. now! I think he was just a player though. And Mike Stoops at Arizona, and Chuck Long (who sucked at SDSU).
