Only 44 years, well I guess that makes you the new kid on the block. Brutal? ridiculous! Since you think you know it all I doubt that you are willing to learn.
Shirehorse, I've been riding for 44 years, and dressage for nearly that long. My instructors over the years represent alumni of the Spanish Riding School, a student of Richard Waetjen, and I have ridden in clinics with several Olympic level riders. I know what an arret is, but have seldom seen it done so persistently. Think what you like. I think it's brutal. There are better ways to soften the jaw and poll. "Relax the mouth?" Don't make me laugh! I can do that with the reins in one hand, dear.
sorry have no idea what snork means, but it sounds insulting. since I have trained 5 horses successfully thru FEI and all are sound and healthy in their late teens, I ave some idea of what I'm doing. And I have never needed to jerk a horses head in the air or attach it's nose to it's chest.
The horse is just being introduced to a new training technique so it's reacting and there's not jerking involved. The process itself is quite quiet. Maybe you need more RL practice.
You are an extremely rude person, glad I don't have to meet you. BTW if you actually READ my reply, you would see I said I do not believe in RK either - both methods are unnecessarily harsh.
Unbelievable! You really should go back and re-read your comments. From the moment you got here you've being insulting and abusive. How is anyone suppose to debate with an idiot like you. Please, don't even try to claim that it's all about preventing abusive training. Just go back to training false collection as you are impressing no one.
@kometrider, I know, right? Here we see mouth open, ears back, tail swishing, back tense. I know he is teaching the horse and it would get better from here but I still don't like the method.
yeh - I would never use that kind of training method. How anyone can say that relaxes a horse's mouth is beyond me. Looks like the way they train the saddlebreds here, without the foot chains LOL
Oh my god, how the horse can, in that way use back muscles, relax in the mouth, use the hindlegs??? This kind of rindind is so paintful for horses....
Shirehorse9, I know it's not RK, but it's every bit as unattractive. I cannot see how yanking/lifting a horse's head to this extreme in any way helps a horse relax the mouth & jaw. This guy is riding the horse's head. This is Boucher-stuff.
He's not lifting the horse's head. He's massaging the bit against the corners of the horse's mouth. The horse isn't ridden that way is just an exercise that takes a few seconds. Similarly to riding a horse long and low. It looks weird by the horse is not riding that way because it's only an exercise. Once the horse is familiar with the exercise then he won't fling his head up. It's not Boucher head setting, it's a technique that is used by many well riders.
He's not riding the horse's head, rather he's getting the horse to lower it's head. If you don't understand how this technique relaxes the horse's mouth and why a relaxed mouth is desirable then get an instructor to explain it to you. Anyway, you should learn about dressage training before you start critiquing it.
hand riders always have explanations for their actions, be it p.k. riding high, or a.v.g. riding low. Horrible

OMG and you people criticize rollkeur but think this is OK - UNBELIEVABLE!

@kometrider,
If you think this brutal I'd hate to see your reaction to sponging the reins. Snork!

I don't know what video you are looking at, but he's not jerking the horse's head in the air or attaching it's nose to it's chest.

just watched it again and yup, that's jerking a horses head in the air. Now I have to go work horses in real life.

Your the one that showed up here to insult people and make terse comments. Don't be surprised if you get a reaction.
shirehorse9 1 year ago
I will always make terse comments about rough treatment of horses. It is not necessary. It is also possible to debate without being insulting.

@ecurieverrie,
He's not head setting the horse. He's getting the horse to lower his head. Learn about dressage training before you comment on the technique.
shirehorse9 1 year ago
Lol... sorry but i can only laugh about your answer... there is some much better and softer ways to learn that to the horses.

I love Philippe Karl
Unless you understand and read his books as to WHY he does what he does, piss off and leave him alone.
Better than any of those GP riders out there today.

Your absolutely correct.

This must be anti-rollkur. Looks just as bad, IMO.
aniranch 2 years ago
yip...I agree...
Antigone83 2 years ago
It's a demi arret. It's not rollkur. It's to get the jaw flexing and to relax the mouth.
