This is a personal fave of mine off the "In the Beginning" CD, I think. Not sure he played it much in concert (?), so this is a treat! Thanks for the post. Love you always and forever Stevie!!!
u can tell he was feelin so good here, so connected with the present,, feelin only the music and the moment,, true zen,,,, he was beaming with life here,, in the truest sense,, glad to believe the promise of another day ,, another chance,, a great show,, and it permeates..

This is the exact reason bootlegging concerts is so important! This treasure would be lost without you. Thankyou very much for taking the time to record this and upload it for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks for posting this. I was there. I remember the sun starting to go down towards the end of the show. Very memorable day at the Jazz Fest. Thanks again.
one of the greteast videos around here, im glad to see stevie and his brother playin like this.....vaughan brothers are the best of it, saludos desde lima peru
This 1st song "In The Open" is an instrumental that Freddie King did from the early 60's. SRV kills it as usual & Jimmie was also a huge Freddie King fan them being from Texas and all. Sure miss SRV but got to see him once live right after the Texas Flood album came out. Great concert!
Amen Bro..People don't understand, you had to see it to believe it..a watching youtube videos is probably the worst fucking format to showcase his music with...but its better than nothing! Memories came flooding back and this also happened to be at a time that I was happiest in my life personally. I had lived in NO for about 5 years and that city has a way of endearing itself to one like no other. Hard and soft, all at the same time..the Big Easy baby..what a fucking AWESOME place...
Oh man. Let me tell ya a story. Stevie came to play Tips in NO in 1980 for two nights. First night he tore the place down and there wuz maybe 50 people there. Well the word got out and EVERYBODY was there the next nite. Standing room only and ALL the musicians showed: George Porter Jr., Zigaboo, Vidakovich, you name 'em. And he tore a new one again!. Especially when he did Tin Pan Alley. RIP Stevie. You were a delight.!!
I got to see him play the Riverboat President in 1986 and there was only like 70 people or so..he was on FUCKING fire ~ I was standing 5 feet away!! It was the middle of the Summer and he was drenched in sweat. He had his head down and the perspiration literally poured down his face and off the tip of his nose..but he never missed a fucking chord and delivered what I still consider to be the single most impressive 2 hours of guitar wizzedry that I had witnessed. S..I.C.K.!
that is the best i've heard jimmie play . I usually hate him when I listen to him otherwise . it must've been the fact he was playing on of stevie's strats which gave him the best tone i've ever heard come from him
:) Kidding....I noticed they misspelled Vaughan on that sign too. I am not sure why there is 5 thumbs down on csi2448 comment. They are just stating the fact that Vaughan is spelled wrong.
Living in New Orleans I get to see an hear some awesome music shows, a friend an I was at this show. It was awesome,so glad I got to seen him before his untimely death. Peace SRV
This is some of the best footage I've ever seen of a live SRV performance and to think just 3 months before his traggic death . Thank you so much for posting this .
just came back to this after a long break..man he was in a good place at this moment...he was having a "good day"..he talked about being sober..the good and bad days....he was happy to ba alive that day..you can hear it...awesome
What a treat to see them play together. Jimmie is the sexy one though. He was hot in those Fabulous Thunderbird videos. What is it about Texas? Gave us the Winter brothers and the Vaughans? Oh yes and my daughter.
That was awesome seeing him play a song I haven't heard since the In the Beginning album in 1980. and Jimmie play Stevie's "Scotch", just an awesome performance.
I saw Tommy Shannon playing with Jimmy Hall last weekend. It was a reminder of how long ago this really was. He sat in a chair and had to get oxygen afterwards. It was incredibly sad for me to see.
I didn't know either but he sat in a trance the whole time just goin' through the motions it seemed. Don't get me wrong he was great but it was sad to see that.
Yeah Tommy Doesn't look that good from the photos that I've seen of him. He did do drugs during that period that Stevie was doing his alcohol and drugs too. He got clean too but all those years of drugs have really gotten to him. That and Stevie was his best friend, losing a best friend is a huge huge loss. Just look at Tommy's website and the photos of Stevie he has and the captions he put under them, brings tears to your eyes

oh sorry didnt see srv playing it at the end there, i typed before watching it to the end... sorry about that... thats baffled me though too, i dont know when he did the srv stickers on charlie...must have been towards the end of his career...thats right cus this is 1990, the year when he died.
the strat jimmie is playing is not charlie i dont think, charlie had a white scratch plate with seymour duncan pickups. its the butterscotch 62 strat srv used on austin city limits here, dont know if he had a name for it... this vid is awesome though...
I think you all should notice that Jimmie is playing one of Stevie's guitars. Ha ha. I didn't think it were possible. But it doesn't matter. The guitar is "Butterscotch" and its most well known for the one Stevie used on "Leave My Little Girl Alone" at ACL.
Not all of Stevie's were set up exactly the same, especially not to the same specifications of Number One. I'm pretty sure Jimmie Vaughan didn't have a problem playing that guitar. Remember, at the age of 15, he was already the baddest guitar player in Texas. Don't count him out so quick because Stevie got MOSTLY everything from him. :)
That date is NOT correct. This performance was on the big stage May 6, 1990. Jazz Fest is two consecutive weekends and days in between. SRV & the band were my guests at LePavillon Hotel where I worked. Mostly I worked with Skip the road manager so I spent some time around the band. SRV shocked me by humbly refusing a suite I prepared. Said he was just one of the guys and wanted the same type room they had. SRV insisted on personalizing a photo to thank me. Two months later it became a treasure.
Thanks DebraMS....I changed the date in the "more info" at the top of this page. I also want to thank you for your personal experience with Stevie and the band...really cool :)
As i know, it's 'New Orleans Jazz&Heritage Festival', exactly, but date was April, 29, 1990. Full setlist of that gig: In the Open (with Jimmy Lee Vaughan) Collins Shuffle The Things That I Used To Do Look At Little Sister Love Struck Baby Tightrope Wall of Denial Mary Had A Little Lamb Superstition Cold Shot Couldn't Stand House is Rockin' Crossfire Voodoo Chile 2srvOhio: if you have any more tracks from that gig, upload them. It's rare, fans'll thank you. So i do. :))
