This 1st song "In The Open" is an instrumental that Freddie King did from the early 60's. SRV kills it as usual & Jimmie was also a huge Freddie King fan them being from Texas and all. Sure miss SRV but got to see him once live right after the Texas Flood album came out. Great concert!

Amen Bro..People don't understand, you had to see it to believe it..a watching youtube videos is probably the worst fucking format to showcase his music with...but its better than nothing! Memories came flooding back and this also happened to be at a time that I was happiest in my life personally. I had lived in NO for about 5 years and that city has a way of endearing itself to one like no other. Hard and soft, all at the same time..the Big Easy baby..what a fucking AWESOME place...

Oh man. Let me tell ya a story. Stevie came to play Tips in NO in 1980 for two nights. First night he tore the place down and there wuz maybe 50 people there. Well the word got out and EVERYBODY was there the next nite. Standing room only and ALL the musicians showed: George Porter Jr., Zigaboo, Vidakovich, you name 'em. And he tore a new one again!. Especially when he did Tin Pan Alley. RIP Stevie. You were a delight.!!

I got to see him play the Riverboat President in 1986 and there was only like 70 people or so..he was on FUCKING fire ~ I was standing 5 feet away!! It was the middle of the Summer and he was drenched in sweat. He had his head down and the perspiration literally poured down his face and off the tip of his nose..but he never missed a fucking chord and delivered what I still consider to be the single most impressive 2 hours of guitar wizzedry that I had witnessed. I saw Tommy Shannon playing with Jimmy Hall last weekend. It was a reminder of how long ago this really was. He sat in a chair and had to get oxygen afterwards. It was incredibly sad for me to see.

Yeah Tommy Doesn't look that good from the photos that I've seen of him. He did do drugs during that period that Stevie was doing his alcohol and drugs too. He got clean too but all those years of drugs have really gotten to him. That and Stevie was his best friend, losing a best friend is a huge huge loss. Just look at Tommy's website and the photos of Stevie he has and the captions he put under them, brings tears to your eyes

I was at this show!! I was in my junior year of high school in Slidell, LA. I paid $10 that day and saw Harry Connick Jr in the Jazz Tent, then SRV on the main stage. That was a good day!! Thanks so much for posting the video!

I think you all should notice that Jimmie is playing one of Stevie's guitars. Ha ha. I didn't think it were possible. But it doesn't matter. The guitar is "Butterscotch" and its most well known for the one Stevie used on "Leave My Little Girl Alone" at ACL.

Not all of Stevie's were set up exactly the same, especially not to the same specifications of Number One. I'm pretty sure Jimmie Vaughan didn't have a problem playing that guitar. Remember, at the age of 15, he was already the baddest guitar player in Texas. Don't count him out so quick because Stevie got MOSTLY everything from him. :)

The information I have is this...New Orleans Jazzfest March 29, 1990. I don't know if that is correct.

That date is NOT correct. This performance was on the big stage May 6, 1990. Jazz Fest is two consecutive weekends and days in between. SRV & the band were my guests at LePavillon Hotel where I worked. Mostly I worked with Skip the road manager so I spent some time around the band. SRV shocked me by humbly refusing a suite I prepared. Said he was just one of the guys and wanted the same type room they had. SRV insisted on personalizing a photo to thank me. Two months later it became a treasure.
