  • If this song was gay, then it was a nice gay

  • Males putting their penises in other male's bottoms has nothing to do with this song.

  • i don't see any remote reference or inference to sexual tastes in any and all lyrics in this song.is it possible that you are extremely homophobic?I'm straight[sexual preference is irrelevant by the way] and your remark is 100% off base and immature.great tune by the way,at least you made a solid selection......grow up!!!!!!!!

  • @eurantia I could not have put it better myself

I hate it when people make assumptions that turn out to be total rubbish..

  • @grooverheliboy it's a big relief,my friend ,to see that there are intelligent, reasonable people that view with clarity and unbiased outlooks.my thumbs up to you! lol to the irony of the thumb up

  • @eurantia Txs 4 ur reply... I just hate people who sit behind their computers all day with biggoted views and probably have never seen the real world and just go on what they read in the tabloids or hearing crap from their like minded biggoted freinds..

    peace to you my freind..

  • Honestly this song far transcends the limits of sexuality, I find it distasteful to even bring it up. And I am gay.

  • I love your inturpertaion, I also happen to love this song.... Personaly, I never understood the line: "your still young, thats your fault"... why is my fault im young?

  • @leahadar1984

I think it means "fault" to mean more of like... shortcoming, rather then responsibility.

    in other words

"your still young, thats your problem, theres so much you have to know"

  • Religious people who claim that God is love and then hate their gay children are a perfect example of why their hateful agenda is losing ground in America. The Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal being signed into law allowing gay soldiers in the military means that homophobes now must pay the salaries of gay soldiers with their tax dollars and there's not a damn thing that they can do about it!

  • fuck you what the fuck do you mean gay you are fucking gay you cunt

  • realy have u a life thats not gay i mean really man why u make this video

    thats just parent care

  • realy have u a life thats not gay i mean really man why u make this video

  • ill be honest its plausable, but i always thought it was just about how the father kept telling the son how to take life. The father telling the son about how he made mistakes and now got through to happiness, and that he wants to protect his son,. The son arguing that he needs to makes those mistakes in order to become eventually happy.

  • you go right ahead and keep this video on the web. forget all the so called "christians" hating on it and twisting it around. They have no idea what they are talking about, and their sole mission is to spread the "word" of god. If they are truly christian, then they should do as christ does, which is love everyone equally. I commend you for putting up this video. It is the 21st century. We homosexuals are not going anywhere, so to our haters, its their problem. ^.^

  • @floria88 you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. you read the scriptures that have been twisted. I honeslty bet you are a right-winged conservative whom whitnesses nothing but your own points of views and shuts off the ideas of others. Listen up, the most pure form of liberalism is Jesus of Nazareth. He said that everyone will sit at the table and be fed the same as everyone else. Before you go making assumptions, try reading. Its the 21st century, so grow up and evolve.

  • I know what the rift is. The rift is about the Russian Revolution, where the boy wants to go and fight in the revolution. The boy's father wants (to order) him to stay and just settle down.

  • I like the song. Excellent video, Just one question: Why (Gay) Son?

  • fantastic interpretation of the song...beautifully done!

  • not

  • lol thts sooo sexi

  • @soundssupergood /agree! Amen to that

  • the son has to leave home because that's what men do. sorry to burst your bubbles 25+ year olds in their parents basements. but your dads want you to get the fuck out!

  • Cat Stevens was a favourite of mine, bought the original release album. Loved this song. Glad to see it posted in this way and I agree that it is unfortunate the mating propaganda ("find a girl, settle down") was included. As a gay youth listening to that line added to being outcast. Later when Cat Stevens denounced homosexuality due to turning to Islam I got rid of the album and have never listened to his songs. This post puts into perspective. WELL DONE!

  • wow... I never had a father/son moment XD Not as a son or as a father (erm... I don't think I'll ever be a father anyhoo XDD lol) But I don't really long for it so I'm good. Nice video. :)

  • Just curious, but what makes people think that Sad Lisa is about homosexuality. I don't get that at all. Not that there is anything wrong with that whatsoever.

  • It's his way to interpret the song. So leave him in peace. :)

  • there is nothing in this song about gay or transgender..

  • i agree with keith, sad lisa is about homosexuality though.

  • Nice job, but it would be helpful if the lyrics were posted under 'more info' at right. Sometimes reading them helps.

  • As much as I love Cat Steven's voice I do think he is unfortunately homophobic.

Yusuf Islam (the former pop star Cat Stevens), has condemned positive portrayals of homosexuality in school sex education lessons, accusing those who advocate such policies of wanting to "feast off the innocence of our children for their own abominable sexual appetites".

  • theres no gay theme here, it was written long before any transgender ops were done. ITs about a father talking to his son, nothing more!

  • i think its about a boy who is been visited by his real father who tries to explain anyway what the heck its a good song

  • I'm going to have to say I personally thought it was about growing up, but now that I listen to it more carefully, it could be many things.

  • Some listeners seem not to actually listen to the lyrics.

Clearly it is a gay, or perhaps transgendered person explaining why they have to go away.

  • I had the same exact reaction to this song the first time I heard it (from a "best of" CD last year). Art is a thing unto itself and Cat Stevens is a fantastic artist and lyricist. Of course, as with any art from, each person will veil the work with their own ideas and experiences. Truthfully, I am SHOCKED at how PRECISE this song is at capturing the dynamic between a loving, straight, misguided Father and his gay son. Great video. Thank you.

  • lame

  • Comment removed

  • You're entitled to your opinion, but this is seriously messed. How in the world do you interpret this beautiful song to be gay? I agree with the troubled home life theme, but you have to stretch it pretty far to make it out to be gay.

  • Comment removed

  • This has NOTHING to do with being gay are you kidding? But I could see why one would interpret it that way. Believe me GAY wasn't even heard of when Cat wrote this song. It has more to do with the father seeing things his way and the son seeing a whole different world and saying dad you don't get it and dad saying but son, YOU don't get it. When you go full circle it makes total sense.

  • @motherocean24 : Please. You said "GAY wasn't even heard of when Cat wrote this song" How inane is that comment? I'm not saying he wrote this as a 'gay' song, but to say that being gay never happened 'back then'? C'mon. Homosexuality is as old as history. If you don't know this fact, then please don't spout on subjects you know nothing about.

  • @2hotinaz That's exactly what I was going to say! Did you know that there are Egyptian drawings that actually show homosexuals in it? Tell me THAT was a fluke - that "gay" didn't actually exist back then.

  • nice music

  • I never thought of interpreting this as being about a gay son, but it certainly could be. Good for you, drawdef, for presenting your take on the song. With all the homophobia on YouTube, it's refreshing to see someone create an upfront, OUT video. Thank you!

  • Love the song, love your message nice work we could more understanding in this matter.

  • thank you for the beautiful pics. I have loved the song for a long time and appreciate your take. Yet i am cofused, why is (Gay) there. Why should it matter?

  • this song is beautiful

  • Congratulations, I love the song... and the photos you've selected are perfect!

I don't really think Cat was telling a gay story... although I would like to believe it ^^

Sorry, my english isn't very good ^^

  • why is the title (gay) son ?

  • Thank you for this beautiful.

  • The song is actually about the son leaving home to join the army. The father is upset. This leads to issues. THis was around the itm eof the russian revolutuon;

  • Beautiful song, may it long play, no who the listener.

  • "Tea for the Tillerman" is one of the all-time best albums ever made. But the old song I always thought was perfect for us (gay people) was "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tommy James & the Shondells.

  • Every song is open to interpretation. As drawdef states this is a personal interpretation of what the song is about. Other people have other ideas thats the great thing about music people can find different meanings in it. If you are going to be offended by gay videos then don't watch one entitled father and Gay son. The clue is in the title - really good idea. i liked it.

  • Wow, a little hostile. No, a lot hostile.

Why do you have to ruin everything? You suck.

  • ummm why did YOU come to watch a video with gay in the title?..lol

  • hmmmmm.

  • Beautiful song....Cat Stevens is great!

  • Beautiful beautiful song. This has been one of my favorites for the past 30 some years. We are not sure of the exact issue that Cat Stevens was referring to between father and son. But, a good poem is one which each person can feel it as it relates to him or her. You have done a great job coordinating the music with the photography. The words sure do lend themselves to the trauma that a gay child goes through during childhood. Thanks for creating this rendition. Very very powerful.

  • i would go gay for cat stevens

  • I've been comfortable with my being gay my whole life. Recently I just met a man who came out of the closet who is 48 years old and married for almost 20 years. His wife was really mean to him but he felt it was important to get married because his family forced him into it and were not accepting of gay people. Recently divorced he and I had a rather romantic encounter and he seemed both very happpy & sad as if he had thrown away all those years of his life to make others happy except himself.

  • im glad he can find happieness now..i have many friends who are gay.....i cant belive he went 48 years in the closet...most of my friends are 14 and 15 and came out a long time ago...its sad when they have homophobic parents though...but anyways i hope you both have happy wonderfull lives =]]

  • AMAZING ! I have three Sons, still young. Whatever they choose in life I will always support & love them. Thanks.

  • @avonrangemaster that's really cool of you, but just so you know, it's not a choice. if i could, i'd chose to be straight... but i have to live with what i am

  • @avonrangemaster i wish you weer my mom :/ if i even so THINK of turning gay i will be disowned v.v

  • That was Amazing, Thanks for sharing

  • great video and song. i have to say i absolutely agree with your interpretation of the lyrics as it seems to fit the scenario of a gay son with a father unwilling to accept and just telling him to get married and hide it. 5 stars.

  • how do you know those kids are gay

  • Great video Amazing song

  • My Dads been around my whole life and there doesn't exist a picture with the both of us in it. My Mom said he didn't like me when I was a baby, and I didn't like him when I was old enough to. I'm not gay... I'm just liberal... but in a conservative family... I'm good as gay I suppose...

  • With tears in my eyes I thank you for getting me to listen to that song and for reminding me that not everyone has had it as easy as me. Thank you

  • nice video, very emotional

how to explain at your dad

    that u be gay ?

when u r your son, you're not married and u don't have children, u r gay for life,

dad don't understand that, i'm crying because

it's difficult to said at him i'm gay my dad

take it easy dad, it's not my fault.....

  • be positive. life will be wonderful no matter what! good luck!

  • I like people expressing themselves, but if your expression is merely to put creepy boy-daddy photos over a song of genuine heterosexual love between a father and son, then tag it with the word 'Gay' ... well, I at least have the right to say this person's "expression" is crap. I defend his right to do it, however, as I defend his right to take it up the cornhole. And the guy who made his is a big time cornholer. Ruins the song for a straight guy.

  • you could really do better than that!

  • Yes, you're correct. I'm the one thinking INSIDE the box.

  • well thats a shame and untill u learn to grow up and accept other peoples opinions than u won't get far

  • Thanks for killing the sentimentality of a song I enjoy with your gay montage. Nothing against gays, but must you co-opt a perfectly heterosexual song and make it into some jailbait, queermo boy-love ballad. Seriously, I like Elton John and expect a good dose of gay from him, so can't you let Cat Stevens be straight?

  • mate lay off aye hes saying what he tinks the song is explaining it doesnt ruin the music for people who really are into it, its one of my favorites and i don't think hes makin into a gay thing so keep your shit to yaself aye its music its surposed to make you think outside the box

  • every song is open to different interpretation based on whos listening

  • you could do better than that, unless you are seriously mentally, socially or intellectually crippled.

  • Loll at the picture of the Douglas'.

If you read closely, drawdef has said it is their 'own interpretation'. There are no claims being made here. Haters, move along.

  • Tolles Video!!!

    Great Video!!!

  • lol wrong video

  • This song is not about gays at all.I suppose you can twist anything to mean what you want Men of the depression/world war 2 era didn't didn't get the chance to free spirits They were an incredible group of people that sacrificed so much for their country. They fought and returned home to settle down and get married. Cat Stevens was at the tail end of the free-wheeling "Hippy" generation They wanted their children to be reponsible and settle down. Why is everything a sexual issue with you gays?

  • Fireman, you sound like you have some intelligence. But you need to understand that gays have a harder time than most - we are men indeed, and are sexual - just like you are. What you state here about gays is a derogative and sexist term, gays aren't sexual, it's society really to blame - we are the same as everyone else, but we never made a choice for this life

  • Behr, you're wrong. I am gay myself, but this song isnt about gays... it's about a son who wants to go fight the russian revolution but his dad doenst want him to. It has nothing at all to do with being gay. A great song, but nothing to do with being gay.

  • I didn't say it was about gays, but I said it can be used that way - please read closer:)

  • This song is not about his son being gay at all, you all have the wrong idea... His son wants to go and fight in 'the russian revolution'

  • At last... someone who knows what they;re talking about.

    Well said speedstacks.

  • actaully he's wrong. the song is about a father and son. And it does fit the gay rights movement, as it would fit most other movements

  • Actually, he's very right. Yes it is about a father and son, but its got nothing to do with being gay. Cat wrote the song about a son who wants to go join in the Russian Revolution, but whos father doesnt want him to go... that is what they're singing about. Not being gay, or incest or love or anything like that. The song is, as Cat wrote it, about a son who wants to join the revolution, but his dad doesnt want him to.

  • I've got a very nice relationship with father. Having a gay son was not his dream, but since that I'm quite discrete, we've kept a wonderful friendship based on confidence.

And I'm truly sad to see that some people still think that being gay is an option, like "okay, I'll chose the hard way of living..."

Society has chosen to discriminate. Gays, jews, blacks, whites, christians and straights are all the same. Pointless people those who make difference...

  • Thanks you

  • I don't think you know anything about gay people ... spewing BS proves nothing.

  • if people arent born gay, then i assume they arent born straight either, if sexuality is a choice try choosing to be gay.. it would be as hard for a straight person to find attraction for someone of the same sex as it is for a gay person to have an attraction for the opposite sex.

  • I pray you stop using the bible for an excuse to not accept everyone for who they are. If you took the bible as literally as you do, you'd already be struck down. Get over it, the world was not created by God.

  • @aaronp0324

that's the stupidest thing I ever heard . the system of intelligence in almost everything you see from human body to much bigger things like the sun and the seasons of the year . Where does that intelligence come from?

At times I feel those who appose the idea of a God are homos because it annoys them that God is against what they are doing . About time the world wakes up and use FORCE to get people into religion . If you don't feed your soul you're gonna have trouble . Fuckin cunt

  • @horizonhero I'm going to ignore your first paragraph, as it is kind of dumb.

Religion is the product of our mind. Our brain is always needing answers for everything, and as there was no way we could find any evidence as to how the universe began, we made up gods. Our brain is then happy with that answer, and the word of gods begin to spread around until it became a full blow religion. Then, a massive game of "Chinese Whispers" (not literally) began (Continued in next post)

  • @MrJamieMinor But really, you cannot prove either way. No matter what you believe, you will find things that prove you right. We, as humans, do not know everything, so nobody can really say another person or group of people are wrong about what they believe.

  • @aaronp0324 yes it was are you stupid

  • but jesus was gay. what's your problem?

  • Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way

    - and none of these verses refer to homosexual orientation as it's understood today. And if the bible means so much to you, keep it to yourself, and dont tell other people how to live thier lives.

  • You say being gay is not a choice. Do you seriously THINK that people choose to be discriminated against?!?!?! Do you think being rejected by friends and family is FUN? How can people choose what they like? Opposite sex attraction is biological. And people who are homosexual are attracted to the same sex have different genes. Do you seriously think people choose to be discriminated against?

  • shame on you. hes a good man its a beautiful song.

  • What Yusuf Islam said about Rushdie was frightening and at the very least highly questionable, but I think his current politcal views and his old music should be considered separately. And I resent and defy any person who honestly belives that a typical Muslim is a "violent zombie." Some branches of Islam tend to lean towards violence, but certainly not all. This song is lovely and I refuse to judge it solely based on the composer's religious and political beliefs.

  • It confuses me how you keep the music and the man's current political views separate when you refer to him as Yusuf Islam. The song written in 1970 by Cat Stevens, not a Muslim, but a lost sole having knowledge of his background. I'm happy for his sake he found what he looked for. He has since separated himself from that time. Became a new person leaving the old behind, his own words, at his own will, therefore if you are evaluating the composer, evaluate the man he was, not the man he is.

  • I suppose that's a good point, KMG121.

  • It's such a beautiful song. Never thought of interpreting it as you have, but I like it. Nice job!

  • what make this song gay

  • Why are you guys listening to this song? Yusuf Islam is a guy who converted to Islam you know.

  • Wht did u name it "Father and (gay) son"? what is the gay part of this song? i don't find anything that tells that the son is gay. and even if he was would that be a problem? even if he might not carry on the family name he is still a human, u know.

  • What a beautiful song! I'll tell you all something. It seems like, more often than not, the most stressful parent-child relationship is that between a father and a son. And, I don't think this is intentional at all! Some of the reasons for this is that the the father and the son are both the same sex, have clashing egos, compete a lot, and expect so much of each other. Also, the father and the son both know that the son is going to be continuing the family name one day. Who agrees with me?

  • I m not sure why this video has to be called "father and (gay) son"... there are no clear elements but in the VERY END of the video about the gay theme. If the video was related to the gay issue, then it could have been noticed somehow in the first photos. But it wasn't. Great song though.

  • Since I was 15, that I knew this song I've always thought the same. That sentence sounded horrible to me. I thought I was the only one, now I know I wasn´t

  • I AM Gay, and I DID grow up listening to this song with my father. I never Thought to interpit it this way (though we all do that with a song, at diff. moments in our lives) I Love it, and though Stevens may not have intended it this way, it sure does make sence to me! And who cares what it means to someone else. Don't ppl fight daily over what ONE Book says? Get Over yourselves, enjoy life, and find Love where you can....Then Hold onto it!

  • If a song appeals to you, it is what you want it to be; gay or straight is not an issue. The first time I heard this song, I cried. At odds with my father, a former soldier, police officer, now I know it was hard for him to have a young rebel nagging him about his "wrong" principles. Now, I'm a dad. My son has been wonderful so far, but at 15, he may become another Alpha male, just like dad and grandpa. If it happens, I'll try to deal with it in a more mature and loving way. God bless.

  • ok not to be contradicting here but where did u get the idea that his son was gay most songs are written for a very simple reason i think its just a son growing up and having to leave his home and make a family of his own

  • It doesnt matter what it is originally about. What matters is what it means to you.

  • Very true. This video's depiction is what it means to me, as a gay son of a homophobic fireman. I have a similar video of this wonderful son : Ronan Keating and Yusuf Islam.

  • this interpretation is wrong, the song is actually about the Russian Revolution in 1917, the son wants to go join the revolution and his father doesn't want him too.

  • This has nothing to do with incest. Just father and son love. And in the case of the son being gay, it means alot to them to be accespted by their fathers. Most cases they feel depresed if their father doenst accept them for who they are. They become in conflict between who they are and what they belive tobe their fathers expectations of them. Eventually can cause them to belive their father doesnt love them. And in may cases that can lead to suicide. I think this is a beutiful video

  • wow, ur crazy, its a song about a father and son and him growing up. if u want to make shit out of a song, make fun of the jibberish u listen to today, im not gay, but theres nothing wrong with being who u are.

dont take this the wrong way, but ur interpretation is shit.

  • In more general terms its is about changing. How one part wants to stay but it has to move on - to let thing pass to be.

  • Cat Stevens originally wrote this as a sound track to a movie about war in Russia. The son was going off to war to find his path; the father didn't want him to. But it is also a more universal song than that. If there is a GOD, he/she/it created gay men and women in love.

  • Whoever put this up, I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart...my son is gay and in a committed relationship with a lovely young man who I love with all of my heart. The relationship between my son and his dad (my husband) has been, in a word, strained...very strained. I sent this to both of them in the hopes that Cat Stevens words and your wonderful video will somehow make them understand one another, just a little bit, and hopefully begin to mend.

    Thank you.

  • It was the most interesting comment i have ever read. I hope for you everything will be allright.

  • Interesting interpretation.

To me, I've always felt that it was about the son's growing up and finding that he has to go (and be an adult). The song has always felt like the dying words of a father to a young boy who now has to become a man.

  • Just because you may be gay doesn't mean you can say that "Find a girl, settle down, if you want, you can marry" is a bad line.

  • Wonderful!! =) I really loved it!!!

  • It was SOO beautiful.

  • Ahmed - don't be a prick. Every person deserves to be equal in this world. Black/White, Gay/Straight. It doesn't matter.

Drawdef - I loved the video. Thanks for posting it.

  • Don't use the name "Ahmed" while you swear and use other inappropriate words for Ahmed is one of the names of Muhammad (PBUH) and you don't have the right to degragade this name. Salaam...

  • What a jerk!
