  • 1978

  • The white-shirt, silver helmet w/ blue plume corps at the end of the Horseheads parade was part two of the Express. I seem to remember that we split into two units for that parade. (Actually, I don't remember very well at all, but the movie helped.) The "other Express" marched without the capes.

  • @tomkildea1 Someone else who marched that year told me the same thing -- said that the parade organizers paid per marching unit -- so by splitting the corps, they were paid double. sounds clever, eh? I just couldn't figure out why Express members, clearly finished marching in the parade, and on the sidewalks, were cheering on the 'other' corps that looked so similar.

  • Your guess of the Squires is correct. The very red-headed snare drummer on the end nearest the camera is definitely Steve Nixon. And the MT Pilots is correct too. The Marion parade was before my "big corps" time so can't help there.

  • Cripes -- the audio has a 'watermark' -- which means that every 30 seconds, you'll get a little commercial message. *sigh* Sorry about that. I'll look for a way to convert this file so that doesn't come up.
