@robbydwilliams, thx for your comment. Puerh tea comes in two forms today: Green Puerh (also called raw or sheng) is the traditional Puerh that still needs decades of slow fermentation aging before it will turn dark and Black Puerh (also called ripened, cooked or shu) which has undergone a special controlled rapid fermentation. The video at the 5 minute mark is showing a cupping of Shu Puerh.
Almost every sentence related to Puerh's purported health properties in this video contains the word "might" or "may," as in "Puerh MAY lower cholesterol & blood pressure..." Doesn't anybody KNOW? I love Puerh, but I'd like to know exactly what its benefits are.
@therealMADgenius What poison? Which poisons? I thank you for answering my question, but I'd like more details. For example, if I bite on a circa-World War II cyanide capsule (like the kind that enabled Himmler and Goering to commit suicide), would I survive if I washed it down with a nice cup of Puerh?
@goback3spaces lol.. but seriously there are posons in every body and you get em out with a lot of tea... but not only pu erh tea, its common knowledge in every culture even the west... so if you make fun of that knowledge you making fun of your own heritage as well...
This is a great and valuable video on puerh tea. When I ran out of puerh recently I bought a box of Numi Puerh Teabags at World Market and was very pleasantly surprised by the rich, deep, and fruity taste, which I assumed would not be availalbe in a teabag. I paid about $7 American dollars for this, because I had a World Market membership card, so I enjoyed 16 cups of very strong puerh tea for approximately 50 cents per cup. Numi Puerh is a great way to start investigating puerh tea.
Our western obsession with sanitation has increased the incidence of auto immune diseases like allergies in the USA. Humans need to be exposed to some microbes in order to stimulate our immune system and to digest our food. Puerh is brewed very close to boiling and that kills any harmful bacteria that might be growing on it. As Puerh ages, beneficial blooms of microbes change the properties of the tea yielding health benefits. It's the similar principle that cheese makers use to make cheese.
Doesn't seem very sanitary. So much handling and exposure to bare hands and feet of a product that is not able to be washed and cleaned. At least foods like lettuce that I buy, they can be washed prior to consuming.
I always wash my pu-erh tea 2 times(infusion) of about 20sec in water of ~95C before starting to drink it. Anyway, do you wash your bigmac when you do to mcdonald? LOL
