compared to Kakuza it was pretty sloppy. the formations didnt always lock and there were some interval problems. but otherwise it was still a really good performance adn we still cant discard the fact that this is a jr high band. the music was ok for the most part. not my favorite. the ending was rather nice though. I think band directors all over the states should show their bands Nishihara HS and Kakuza jr high. so they would know, that is how it should be done
I am impressed. When I went to school there, Yokatsu was heavily involved in gymnastics, and students on the team including myself used to practice after school every single day and on weekends. We represented Okinawa to compete in mainland Japan for over a decade. Our coaches were just phenomenal. I've heard that Yokatsu Jr.and Sr.High are currently well known for their musical(Kimutaka no Amawari),but I did not know they even have a marching band there. Thanks so much for posting this video.
I figured as much as there might be some drum corps folks involved. Kudos to the drill designers. Definitely as good as anything I've seen in the 'States.
Not the same person. Unfortunately however, especially at the Jr High level, a teacher moves to another Jr. High every 3 to 5 years. So no one band gets to keep a good instructor for too long. High school is suppose to be the same, But Nishihara has held their instructor for 8 years now. There are a lot of Drum Corps exhibitions and Alumni here now and they are putting their experience into their work.
....since when have they had jr. high marching bands.. hmmm
