Try standing a little more narrow and use a more narrow grip. Also shoot your hips. I can't see how close you are standing to the bar but maybe try standing further away for it. Good example of shooting the hips is the Andy Bolton Deadlift videos.
Just something thats helped me with deads, not trying to give you my expert advice or anything. stand with legs shoulder width apart, move your grip in aswell to just outside shoulder width. This should allow you to lift more weight as you are in a more upright position.
dude ur good and all bt do u haw to show off ur back muscles at the end of ur every video? thats just annoi. and ur back ( 1:01 ) doseny look alrite u should get that checked like
Respond to this video... you might want to use a little more leg drive. that may help. i'm sure you have it covered by now. how did you get such a broad back anyway?
@bastionhead you have a well developed lat spread at 1:01 but i could see how a person who doesn't follow the sport could think it's an injury of some sort
no disrespect but for eighteen years of hard training you should be stronger, how can you say that you can out-lift powerlifters when Olech Jaroslaw is 165lbs and deadlifts 705lbs and squats 805lbs, i still think you are strong and respect you though
I have outlifted many competitive powerlifters at my same bodyweight, even though I do not even train specifically for powerlifting. I have never claimed to be stronger than world-class powerlifters.
agreed.i think your grip is to wide and bringing to much back into play when your bringing the bar up,if you just shortened your grip it would make a big difference, nice job though
so much biterness and jealousy between bodybuilders and the like, really quite depressing, it seems peolpe also seem to be envious that you do what you do without steroids? or am i wrong?
oh ya question for bastionhead are you a body builder ? ad a piece of advice after every rep let the weeight go and reset yourself, to give yourself maximum effort on each life, dont focus so much on just touchin the floor pull it up dorp it down and go again u will find u prolly have a few more reps in you that way, and more reps the beter
ya well im a powerlifter, it is better to reset after every lift , cuz it only takes one to win, and resetting only takes 2 maybe 3 seconds its not like it hurts you and you end up lifting the weight properly each time, and there is no way that keeping u back bent at that position is better than getting ur ass back down and lifting with a straight back
well to each his own preference. but losing the tension on your back then snapping it back on each rep is bad for you. and the back isnt bent its flat the whole time
ya the lifts are not bad and im not knocking him at all but whats with all this drug free bullshit, is that supposed to be impressive, my friend is 6 foot 3 190 pounds and he just pulled 415 for 5 4 days ago he has never touched anything and hes skinny as fuck, i myself am 6 foot 300 pounds and just pulled 505 for 5 and i have never touched anything, drug free is expected, its noth something special
Well, some people give a shit about what is attainable without anabolics--even if you don't. I know I'm no master deadlifter by powerlifting standards--did you read the description for this video? However, I am doing 5 reps here with over twice my bodyweight (I do it for ten reps in another video). I am not a power lifter, although I seem to be able to out-lift a lot of powerlifters pound-for-pound.
@dutchstrongman haha, I am geared up and can nail 505 for five easy after a few months drug free... I just pulled 600 at 212 ''with low levels of free t... I was deadlifting 530 in highschool at 175 lb bodyweight and at a hight of 5ft11...yea... who gives a fuck if its drug free or not...I am just impressed when I see something done without all the wraps and triple denim powersuit that will stanup on there own. To juice or not to juice is not the question
Nice lift. 'BH' use a narrower grip and scrape those shins. I did 405 for 3 a few weeks ago at 160lbs. Also try some speed lifts (e.g. 70% of this 5 rep max) focusing on explosive concentrics to improve your rate of force development
At the suggestion of some other commenters I have narrowed up my stance and grip recently and it is certainly more comfortable. I might not make any gains until the garden-growing season is over. I'm trying to grow a good amount of my own food--tubers mostly--and all the bending over digging and weeding cuts into my lower back strength/recovery.
good call on narrowing it up. same with your grip. if you're goin for max effort no need to grab wide cause it just increases the dept of the pull. also, it seems like you are quite quad dominant (judging by your massive squats hehe) nice job on everything, keep it up.
just keep lifting dude, Ill agree u might want to bring your hands in, puts less strain on your pinkies and allows for a stronger grip. I was in the same position a year ago. Just stay clean and lift heavy, you will amsh every goal in front of u
i was like rlly weak on my deads untill i tried a semi-sumo stance. i think u also might be alot stronger with a semi-sumo, try it and tell us how it goes
looks good, but if you're gonna go close stance, go a lot closer than that-as close as is comfortable and keep your hands right outside of your legs. the less distance out you hvae to reach the more you can reach down, ie less r.o.m. and more weight/reps/development
hey I'm 15 5'11 145pounds i squat 225 all the time and my max is 325 but i don't have big legs and im a football player anyone have edvice on how to get bigger?
The main purpose of a mixed grip in deadlifting is to keep the bar from rolling. How is that cheating? And wearing a belt? That's just common sense. Jonathanalexand is clearly a tool.
Typical. Criticism and veiled insults followed by insincere praise, and of course, you conveniently have no videos of your own posted.
I'm curious how many reps you can get with 2X your bodyweight in the deadlift. Did you notice I doubled my reps with this weight in only a few weeks time?
Use of anabolics not only markedly accelerates the rate of strength gains, but propels the user far beyond their natural abilities. Get real.
Considering that I am a physician, I probably know more than you do when it comes to endocrinology and the effects of anabolic steroids on every possible level.
I know exactly what anabolics can and cannot accomplish through scrutinizing years of scientific data, not gym/internet hearsay.
Yes, I can rep 2x my weight more than 5x. My pissing contest days are behind me and I am not willing to risk an injury to prove anything to you. It doesnt matter if you believe me or not.
Denying steroids ability to radically improve strength and size? Steroids are overrated? What is this...the 1950's? Have you been living in a cave for the last half century. What "scientific data" have you scrutinized? Studies of steroids taken in theraputic doses? Newsflash: bodybuilders and strength athletes take 10, 20, 30 times the doses that your studies may have analyzed. The take multiple drugs at any given time and many never cycle off.
ur a fuckin idiot man.. what does wearing a belt and switchin the grip up have anything to do with bein a drug free lifter... hes not a hypocrit.. ur a retard...
A transposed grip is a cheat because it means you do not have the grip strength to pull the weight up naturally (like we do in olympic weightlifting).

Uhh, my channel description here is "Natural bodybuilding as I define it." Nowhere have I claimed to belong to any dogmatized school of lifting such that a belt, alternate grip, or even lifting straps could possibly constitute cheating. However, were I trying for some kind of standardized form, all competitive powerlifting organizations (where the deadlift is recognized) approve of a transposed grip. BTW I wear the belt fairly loose, mainly to remind myself to keep my abs tight.
BTW also, when I was getting my biochem degree and studying exercise physiology for fun at K-State, I informally tutored a bunch of pre-med students through organic and biochem. I'm not a doctor, but I do work at a medical teaching university where I am surrounded by clueless physicians and physicains-to-be all the livelong day. Your profession adds no weight to your claims, and perhaps the hypocrite is he who would criticize my videos without posting any of his own.
Thanks....and NONE of my lifts require drugs. I'm curious--just what is the boundary point of strength where drugs ARE required? 495x5? 585x5? 675x5? I fully acknowledge that my back is a weakness and am trying to bring it up. Did you see that I got 405x10 just a few weeks after this?
The poundage doesn't really matter. Most people I've seen can get a 2.5 x BW deadlift after some time lifting. However, generally after that point, I think drugs will have to come into play although obviously there are some exceptions.

If you're looking for hypertrophy, increase reps 3x8-10 (setsXreps).
If you're looking for strength/power, reduce reps, shoot for 3x5 (setsXreps while close to max)
Always increase the weight (5 pounds total).
When you finally stall, do a 10% deload and work back up, and keep your form good.
Your diet also plays an enormous role in gains (in both strength and power).
Lift like an ox, eat like a pig (clean, though), sleep like a baby, and grow like a weed..
