  • Yeah, ok, that kicked ass. Never heard of these guys before, but I know an epic win when I hear one.

  • This is the most amazing thing ive ever seen in my entire life

  • fantastic playing absolutely dreadful P.A. Lets have the rhythm instruments louder than the lead, yeah that's a really great idea!

  • I like this version. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra was the original though, just to clear things up. It was written by Simon Jeffes around 1982, look it up. Patrick Street just did a cover...a very good one though i might add!

  • for a found irishman...dont let the devil win

  • Fantastic sound...Napoleon Dynamite!

  • i love this song and that was a great cover but i wish people would stop saying this song os from ND, it was originally used in a film called Malcolm, by nadia tass, along with their telephone & rubber band tune and pauls dance all by the penguine cafe orchestra,

  • its so bad ass sounding

  • ROCK ON SUCH FUN...

  • quare grand!

  • thanks so much for recording this!

    it's fantastic :p :D

  • Paddys revenge thieved this!

  • were can I find the version that's on Napoleon Dynamite??

  • This song is the first track on the PATRICK STREET album: "IRISH TIMES", and is the track that is used on the NAPOLEON DYNAMITE film. It was recorded in studio, so it's much more refined than this "live" version. "Irish Times" is also one of the best Irish albums you'll find, loaded with many styles and variety, great musicians!

  • search paddys revenge

  • don't, for the sake of the welfare your own ears..

  • search idiosyncratic

  • itunes moron

  • The version on Napoleon Dynamite is from the original artist which was The Penguin Street Cafe and the writer was the late Simon Jeffries.

  • The version of this song for Napoleon was done by Penguin Cafe Orchestra

  • um no, it was actually done by patrick street

  • the penguin cafe orchestra use alternative instruments and not traditional irish

  • Where is the Bloody Bazooki? Fecking ell I not its not an Irish instrument...I thought that Patrick Street the lot of em wrote this song back in the early eighties and not some idjit with a broken harmonium back in the 1800's...I might be wrong but it isn't Celtic music. I do love the song though...Slainte'

  • they did play in a 'celtic' idiom though didn't they? As far as I know the bouzouki isn't strictly speaking a 'celtic' instrument but has now become associated with 'celtic' music - mainly through the playing of Andy Irvine. He brought it back from Eastern Europe

  • isn't this: beef. it's whats for dinner.

  • No. That's the Hoedown, from Aaron Copland's Rodeo.

  • I'm so disappointed they didn't put it on the Napoleon Dynamte soundtrack...why didn't they?

  • Supposedly they didn't get the artists permission to even have it in the movie, this band has contacted their lawyers. The original version of this song is by penguin cafe.

  • Simon Jeffes an English man and founder member of the Penguin Orchestra wrote this song.

He wrote it on a Harmonium he found in a back street of Kyoto while on tour in Japan in the early 80's.

He also founded the Penguin Orchestra in the early 70's after falling ill while on holidays in the south of France.

  • Amazing song-- trying to remember which movie it was featured in--- Napoleon Dynamite!

  • Are you referring to the performance or the tune itself? After all, the state of the a**e equipment used to record this video could never be called into question, could it?

  • tune your banjo/mandolin A D A D makes this piece a lot easer to get. good luck

  • really.. im learning it on the banjo and theres something missing

  • this is great love to know were they are from l mean what part of ireland love to see them play live lissening to that mfi advert on tv thats how l found patrick st guess what my name is lol patrick

  • One of the most influential groups in irish Trad music. Kevin Burke on fiddle, born London to Sligo parents and plays Sligo style, also plays in Bothy Band. Jackie Daly on box from Kanturk, N Cork, also part of De Dannan, Andy Irvine on Bouzouki also of Planxty fame from London. Ged Foley, guitar, of the Battlefield Band formed in Glasgow.

  • john carty on banjo?

  • heck yes - check out his excellent banjo album "I Will If I Can" - and tell him he needs a US distributor for that one...

  • lol. same in Australia. I can't find it anywhere and it would be a great one for me to learn from.

  • there's also a new Patrick Street CD called "On the Fly" with John Carty playing banjo, fiddle, and flute - I don't know what the Australian distribution situation will be for that one!

  • trust me - it's really much good for trad music.

  • Zoe Conway also does an excellent version.

Any trad sessions in sydney you know of?

  • I'm glad that there is finally a good version of this song up
