The only thing I've never understood is how the babel fish, since it feeds on brain waves of people speaking near it (and excretes the translation), was able to translate the warning at the vogon ship's sound system, since the announcer (Vogon Jeltz?) wasn't anywhere near Ford and Arthur (and their fishes).

I know I shouldn't search for logic in a humor text, but... Does it have any official explanation that you know?

@EuMesmoVII As far as my understanding goes, Arthur and Ford are quite near each other at that time. Allowing Arthur's babel fish to feed off of Ford, and Ford's off of Arthur.

@darlordthecynic The same way you can have the color green in hex. (see. #00FF33) Numbers are abstracts, not physical constants. The way the spaceship bistromath works in the second book is by manipulating the meaning of mathematics: consider them variables taking on the meaning of colors ;)

@csquaredawesome ;) Buddha was a person 2500 years ago, and never pretended to be anything else. The Buddhist philosophy is basically to stand back and only believe in what you can prove; because if you can't prove it, its probably a load of balls. =P Just thought I'd throw that out there.

But yeah. Religion is a bit like having a Penis. Its nice that you have one and I'm happy that you're proud; but please don't force it down my throat.

There are multi-species symbiotic relationships in nature, and the Babble Fish, obviously isolated, has a terminal stage species that is not human.
