"We have a lot more work to do in our common struggle against bigotry and discrimination. I say 'common struggle' because I believe very strongly that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are equally wrong and should be opposed by right-thinking Americans everywhere. Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination."
These four state Senators have betrayed New Yorkers in their quest for wedding cash," said Brian Brown, president of NOM. "They abandoned their stated values and their own promises to voters. We want to expose these Senators and their same-sex marriage money dance. NOM and our 'Let the People Vote' coalition will not rest until these legislators are turned out of office and the people of New York are allowed to vote on the definition of marriage."
He's right, being black and gay are very different.
In the US, gays have a higher than average tax burden. Blacks have a lower than average tax burden.
If gays have children, they have to have enough resources to not only actually take care of the child themselves, but they are also wise to be well-off enough to fight legal battles, or move. How many black children are fed and clothed by the taxpayer?
The National Organization for Marriage – Rhode Island (NOM-RI) demanded today that Governor-elect Chafee’s promise to act quickly on invoking same-sex marriage in the state be put to an end. With polling data showing the majority of voters in Rhode Island opposing same-sex marriage, and the overwhelming majority wanting the issue to be put to them for a vote, the Governor-elect is promising to act against the will of the people, and refusing to give them a right to vote on the matter.
“For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you; yea, and the Lord God will disperse the powers of darkness from before you, and cause the heavens to shake for your good, and his name’s glory” (D&C 21:5–6).
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Organization for MarriageTM (NOM) today decried the hearing to determine the constitutionality of Proposition 8, California's constitutional amendment providing that marriage is only the union of a man and a woman. NOM is protesting the involvement of Judge Stephen Reinhardt because Reinhardt's wife has been involved in the case from the beginning as the Executive Director of the ACLU of Southern California.
"Citizens are entitled to a guarantee of impartiality from their judiciary. Yet here we have the spectacle of a federal appeals court justice ruling on a case in which his wife represents a group that is a participant."

@omiolo ""Burn their ******* churches to the ground, and then tax the charred timbers GAY COMMUNITY" Hillarious that you ascribe this saying (without any reference--how do we know you didn't just make it up out of thin air) to the ENTIRE gay community. There are gays of all sorts of opinions and creeds. There are plenty of straight people who have that exact same opinion about churches (I'm not one of them, by the way--I am a Christian).
In Nampa, a large congregation took the task of cleaning eight miles of hiking trails along the Snake River from Halverson Lake to Map Rock Road in the Celebration Park area.
Speaking about the Idaho Helping Hands projects, Elder J. Craig Rowe of the Seventy said, “We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to partner with community leaders across southern Idaho in a variety of projects. These opportunities bring local communities together.”
The CDC recommends that gay and bisexual men of all ages get an HIV test each year, and men at highest risk -- those who have multiple sex partners or use drugs during sex -- get tested every three to six months.
The study found that 28 percent of gay black men infected with HIV, compared with 18 percent of Hispanic men and 16 percent of white men.
Black men in the study were also least likely to be aware of their infection, with 59 percent unaware of their infection compared with 46 percent of Hispanic men and 26 percent of white men.
ITS A FACT-THERE ARE ENOUGH SIMULARITIES IN BOTH CIVIL RIGHTS CASES-BLK AND GAY. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE WITH A CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDER SAYING DIFFERENT. I CHALLENGE ANYONE TO TRY TO PROVE IT DIFFERENT. BLKS CIVIL RIGHTS AND GAY CIVIL RIGHTS SIMULARITIES=NOT ELIGABLE FOR MARRIAGE. HUNG,BEATEN AND KILLED FOR WHO THEY ARE.RIDICULED AND PRESSURED BY OTHERS RELIGIOUS BELIEFS,SUICIDE RATES WERE HIGH IN BOTH BECAUSE OF DEPRESSION CAUSED BY T HE HATE. PEOPLE WHO HATE WILL NEVER WIN,GOD HAS SEEN2IT
@dorianstark actually gays are more like the KKK who attacked the blacks and surrounded their places of worship and threatened them. Just like the Gays did to the Mormon places of worship. Gays are like the people that were NOT happy with others voting, naming blacks in sixties, but NOW Mormons in the modern times.
@omiolo actually, youre delusional because there is no homosexual in history thats murdered another as the kkk did. your comparison is blind an very juvenile in thought. u say gays attack. give me an example of our so called attacks? what did we plead for our rights too loud?!
@dorianstark initially the KKK was just sent out to intimidate and frighten others. Typically by burning things and surround their places of worship. Why does that sound like modern gay tactics?
@omiolo it doesnt sound like modern gay tactics. i am saddened u feel it does. everyone knows that gays dont hate. even the gay bashers know that.remember, kkk are detructional violent organization. no record of any gay person bshing str8 people. but plenty of str8 people bashing gays.
@omiolo "initially the KKK was just sent out to intimidate and frighten others. Typically by burning things and surround their places of worship. Why does that sound like modern gay tactics?"
Yeah, why DOES that sound like modern gay tactics? It doesn't. Modern gay tactics involve distributing information, advertizing, lobbying, putting up Websites and blogs, protests, PSAs, fundraising events, etc. How does that sound like the KKK?
His senior year he came out about his homosexuality. After graduation he moved in with an older man in Seattle who introduced him to the standard party drugs — ecstasy, ketamine and GHB — and then methamphetamine, or crystal meth.
This is all pre-planned. Another way to silence the reality of what is going on around this globe. Racism-white supremacy (psychoses) purposely uses every ploy to further subjugate black (brown) people. In this case, the method is to join antisexual acts with race. It wasn't the black community that raised any "race cards" it was the gay/queer/lesbian agenda-makers that did. This is nothing new white feminists pulled this crap in the 60's-70's
"The difficulty with that question is it's asking the defense to speculate about a harm that is likely but would occur only if we were to experiment with redefining marriage," Pugno said. "It's hard to disprove something that hasn't happened yet."
not directed only to LDS women but all women, she molded her answer on Segullah differently than normal: "As little girls, we believe we can, and that Heavenly Father wants us to, accomplish amazing things. Dare to dream is meant to to help us remember, to aspire and dream like we did as children." What an amazing idea. If you dare to dream, check out Johnson's site for inspiration!
Segullah interviewed Johnson and posted her motivation for creating this site: "When I'd ask women about their dream, particularly those who were attending to family full-time, many didn't have a dream; their confidence had flickered, if not faded. What was so sad is that these were women with two, four, maybe eight children, who were astonishingly capable and from whom I was learning, and yet they couldn't see their own magnificence." Asked about the sexual harassment allegations, Massa said: "When someone makes a decision to leave Congress, everybody says everything. I have health issues. I'll talk about it [later].
"It seems pretty consistent with Kevin Jennings being appointed in the Obama administration," said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit public interest law firm, referring to the controversial founder of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network who now serves as the assistant deputy secretary for the Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.
Shouting "shame on you," they hurled vulgarities at diners. Though Christofferson apologized, "boisterous street protests erupted" after she refused to renounce her stance, according to the Wall Street Journal. Christoffersen took a leave of absence.
And third, the majority has a distinct sympathy for the foes of same-sex marriage. The justices cited a series of newspaper stories reporting on the threats and harassment faced by those who have publicly opposed gay unions.
Legal experts on the left and right gleaned three insights from the high court intervention:
First, the justices are following this case closely. They typically rule on appeals after cases are decided. It is rare for them to intervene in a pending trial.
Second, the court's conservatives do not trust Walker to set fair rules for proceedings. Their opinion described how he had given shifting explanations of his plans.
Yes, he was born in San Francisco and spent much of his youth in Los Angeles, speaking English and experiencing the opportunities and challenges offered by a sprawling city. But he also called the rural communities of Chihuahua, Mexico, his second childhood home. It was there with his Spanish-speaking grandparents that he rode his horse, ran with his dog and breathed "different air."
Oooh I said a swear word. How naughty of me. I guess I go to bed tonight without any milk and cookies... seriously dude. Have you read some of the comments that the yes on 8 crowd has posted on youtube wishing death on all homosexuals? That is "pro-family" to you??? What the heck dude? Seriously? FYI I happen to have a 4 year old living in my home so you know what buddy? Think twice before you call someone anti-family simply for speaking their mind.
@YesProp8: No on 8 has never been Anti-Family. We are trying to make sure OUR families are respected and socially accepted. I am gay, I have always been gay, I will always be gay. Just because it is possible to HIDE who you are attracted to does not mean you can change it. The people who can change ARE NOT GAY! Understand that we also have bisexuals in our society.
@YesProp8 why are the 'yes on prop 8' people anti-family? they stopped gay people from getting married... that means they can't have families. just shameful!
"In the past, I opposed gay marriage while supporting the idea of civil unions. I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage."
Supporters of the gay marriage ban, represented by former Whitewater prosecutor Kenneth Starr, said it would be a reversal of the Supreme Court's own precedents for the court to overturn the results of a fair election.
"We are asking you simply to stay the jurisprudencial course, not to stray on a new course," Starr said.
"It seems what you are saying is, it is just too easy to amend the California Constitution," George told Raymond Marshall, an attorney representing the NAACP and other civil rights groups trying to overturn the ban. "Maybe the solution has to be a political one."
Homosexuality has nothing to do with how one behaves. Your behavior has nothing to do with your sexuality. There are heterosexuals who are sexually promiscous and loose as well. The premise is that people used the bible to discriminate against interracial couples the same way they discriminate against gay couples today. The discrimination is very similar in terms that it is biblically charged. I still fail to see any logical points that make sense, against gay marriage. Love is love.
The bible being misinterpreted isn't the bibles fault its the person twisting its message. HOWEVER, the bible is clear on condemning HOMOSEXUAULITY!!!!!!!! LOVE IS NOT LOVE. THE BIBLE IS CLEAR THAT GOD IS LOVE AND THAT GOD IS JEALOUS GOD AND HATES SIN. HOMOSEXUALITY IS SIN AND YOU BURN IN HELL FOR IT!!!!!!!!
@Dracanomite You took the words RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH. Your sexuality doesnt define your spirit, if it did the CPS would be out of business as the majority of kids grow up in heterosexual households, does that stop them from being abused, no it doesnt.
Can anybody explain the main arguments for prop 8, i dont understand why gay marriage is such a problem.
@Dracanomite Funny I belong to a Pentecostal church in The BIBLE belt, and I'am black and my wife is white WE have never had anyone tell us that we should not be together. No discrimination My brother THE WORD is and always will be. 1 cor 7:2 " nevertheless to avoid fornication let EVERY man have HIS own WIFE, and let EVERY woman have HER own HUSBAND. nothing more nothing less.
i'm not saying i am against gay rights but even if gay ppl proved they were born gay ppl would just say it is a genetic or psychological disorder...it's a lose/lose situation
The rapid, angry reaction from a range of gay activists comes as the gay rights movement looks for an opportunity to flex its political muscle. Last summer gay groups complained, but were rebuffed by Obama, when an ex-gay singer led Obamas rallies in South Carolina. And many were shocked last month when voters approved the California ban.
@YesProp8 ...again... why are the 'yes on prop 8' people anti-children? they stopped gay people from getting married... that means their children can't have the protection that a loving married gay couple can give them, as well as protection if one of the parents passes away. why are you 'yes prop 9' people anti-children?
@YesProp8 said, "No on Prop 8 people antichildren and antifamily?" Typical homophobic Newspeak--saying the opposite of reality and characterizing it as truth. Those who said No on Prop 8 are all in favor of family and children. That's the whole point. LGBT people WANT to make a family and raise children. How is that antichidren and antifamily?
I realized I was Gay when I was 4 or so, and NOTHING you or anyone else is ever going to take that away. However, you CAN take away my rights. You can be bigoted all you want, but the fact is, mainstream science does not agree with your fantasy any more than it agrees the world was created in 7 days.
You found out you were gay when you were four? Well, you must have been some kind of a super human baby, because according to child psychologists most boys hormones and sexual knowledge matures way later than that.
interesting that he was saying that black and white people are completely "the same" and are equal as human beings but that men and women are not. the layers of bigotry in this issue are perhaps more complex than they first appear
I agree slicbro, men and women ARE completely different. Equal in worth and value, but biologically 100% different. These differences are what make us attracted to each other. I don't understand how people can claim that the two genders are the same. Why the heck would we have separate restrooms if this were the case?
Interesting - considering Gays/lesbians marched with blacks in Selma and other places in the 60's..when gay rights weren't even dreamed of...a blk gay help pen the " I Have a Dream" speech....Corretta Scott King was for Eq2uality for All...these people in this video are Ignorant!
This is what is so sad about religion. They love to contort things to suit their purpose. If this gentleman thinks Dr. Kings efforts were to just make things better fo blacks only then he misunderstood the entire civil rights movement. and he needs to revisit it perhaps. Everyone is free to pursue life and liberty or none of us are free. The churches wouldn't recognize Jesus if he showed up on their door steps. They have moved so far away from his teachings it's disturbing.
Humm thats funny...I have heard tons of black people say they are disappointed in the black community for voting yes on 8...hummm funny and as far as gays attack the black community we have notwe have been focusing on the ones who helped fund it. Go where the money is.

Well, 'Yes on Prop 8' IS anti-family and anti-children, if you think about it. You're preventing these families from forming, and you're preventing unwanted children from being adopted by them. All because of your own unjustified prejudices. What is more anti-family and anti-children than that?
It's time you realized that families come in all shapes and sizes.
Being gay is not a behavior. People are born gay and people can't change their atttraction. Is the second guy serious? The are big difference between whites and blacks. The point is that our differences should be celebrates and not fear. These people are ignorant beyond belief.
Speaking of ignorance, you just contradicted just about ever major scientific study done on the topic of homosexuality. Congrats. Homosexuality IS a behavior, and no, there is no evidence that homosexuality is purely genetic or biologic. On the contrary, the consensus is that homosexual attraction is a result of biologic, psychological, and social factors.
Oh, and the "differences" between whites and blacks (in this country) are mostly a result of the discrimination blacks suffered in the past.
Did I say that homosexuality is purely genetic? Homosexuality is not a behavior. A person can be a homosexual without ever engaging relations with someone of the same sex. Homosexuality simply means that a person is attracted to members of his or her own sex. And I have no idea what you are talking about regarding discrimination. Gays have been discriminated against also and still are today.
You said that gays are "born gay." The science showing the psychological and social effects (both of which are environmental) would seem to disagree with you. Unless you know something more than the scientists do. Please share, you will win a Nobel Prize.
I will leave you to read the studies on your own so that you can clear up your misconception about homosexuality and behavior.
You are ignorant. Talk to any gay person and most of them will tell you that they realized their sexual orientation at a very young age—some as early as four or five. The science shows that there are people who are born with a homosexuality predisposition. Many gay men are born with an extra "X" chromosome. Scientists are now trying control a person's sexual orientation by injection hormones in utero which goes to show that genetics play a major role in a persons sexual orientation.
Of course science shows that there are people who are born with a homosexuality predisposition(this is that biologic component I talked about), but this is not the same as saying (as you claimed) that the people are "born gay." In the same way that tall people have a natural predisposition to being NBA players, doesn't mean that all tall players actually become or have the skill/willpower to become NBA players.
In contrast you are born with your skin color and no skill/willpower will change that
Again, just because a lot of gay people say that they realized their sexual orientation at a young age, doesn't prove that they were born that way at all..
In fact, everyday experience with people (particularly women) changing their sexual orientation throughout their lifetimes (going from straight to bi..or straight to lesbian) is quite common and confirms the changeability of orientation.
Like the guy in the video says, a black person has never said.. "I used to be black."
Some women go around kissing each other because they are trying to be cool. Nobody goes from being gay to straight. Many people are bisexual and chose to be with different partners at different stages in their lives. I have never heard a gay person say "I used to be gay." What people say is that they have decided not to live a gay lifestyle. Many of the people doing it were never gay in the first place-- they were bisexual. That's a big difference!
Lot of people have gone from gay to straight. You should research "reparation therapy."
I also personally know women that have changed from straight to lesbian and back to straight again. So my personal experience would disagree with yours.
And the fact that race or gender is *completely* determined by genes (which is why people can't change those)whereas science has known that homosexuality is not but a behavior governed by biologic, social, and psychologic factors damages your hypothesis.
You are not gay so you have no idea whether being gay is a choice or not. Who in their right mind would chose to be gay? Who wants to be vilified and persecuted? And I know all about reparation therapy. It doesn't work! It's torture. All they do is force people to undergo electric shock and reinforce homophobic stereotypes. Research shows that few have done the reparation therapy and made a permanent conversion. Most the people go back to living a homosexual lifestyle within 1-2 years.
Rehabilitation efforts of all sorts tend to have less than stellar success rates (including those for alcohol and drugs)because success depends greatly on the how much the individual truly wants to change.
With your logic, who in their right mind would choose to be an alcoholic or drug addict- especially with all the social stigma attached to those things? Yet many people do these things and in spite of this, I see nobody seriously claiming people are born an alcoholic or drug addict.
"You are not gay so you have no idea whether being gay is a choice or not. "
I never said that homosexuality was always a choice.
I go by the scientific results. The current consensus is that gays are NOT born that way despite the myths and stereotypes to passed by the liberal media. If a gay gene is ever discovered or scientists say otherwise, I'll be glad to change my position.
Let me make it clear one thing, however. None of this is to say (as the video poster claims) that homosexuality is always a "choice."
It is not like you or I can wake up one day and decide we want to be "gay" or "straight" in the same way that a drug addict can't just give up his addiction right away. Some people "choose" to be gay or lesbian later on in life but clearly this is not all homosexuals. Powerful environmental/social factors, however, shape orientation in individuals unwittingly.
micheal jackson? i was born a boy i didn't choose to be born a boy or choose how ppl say coz i'm a boy this is what i should be, dress like, look like or who i should be with. simply the difference between a man n women is reproductive organs if it was much more we wouldn't have sexism. 'behaviour' is used to trivialise it, gay, marriage, gender, love or life are not behaviour.
you say just coz i was born a boy i have to live my life on your say so? by your rules? like if i was born 200yrs ago just coz i'm black i was a slave?
is descriminination only descrimination/wrong if its against you? noone has seperated their points from prejudice n bias. you show this n your ignorance in the words you use n the applause. your audience is also ignorant n sheep.
These people are incredibly ignorant. Being gay is not a choice. You are born gay, just as you are born black or white. To say otherwise flys in the face of science and common knowledge. It is disturbing to see an African-American man elevating his civil rights and denegrating those of an entire class of Americans. Apparently, he has yet to learn the lessons of his ancestors own struggle and that is unfortunate.
edgy, hip christians! "no mics here! we use headpieces and wear jeans!" LOVE! IT! but back to the topic, as a hetero black woman don't you dare use this idiot as the voice for all black people. i actually feel sorry for the man; cadence alone you can tell he's not well educated. sucks but not my problem.
and who the hell's using EMF as intro music?! now, i know god declared that an abomination. if i write it into my bible does that mean you're going to hell?! oh well, you asked for it. that song haunts dreams and not to mention is only liked by the super lame! prop 8's for suckers. KEEP MAKING THE COMPARISON BECAUSE IT'S TRUE!!!!!!!!!! and a little word of advice, the 90's? over.
Dear Gay community..You will not bully the media you will not bully the people and certainly will not bully the parents. Prop 8 is and always will be about the children. It's about protecting the children. Kids need a mommy and a daddy. Period. We will also not allow you to teach hmosexual lifestyle in our public schools. The people have spoken now deal with it. Your lifestyle is sinful and shameful. Move to massachusetts if you don't like it!this is not a civil rights issue. It's a moral issue

The homosexual community wants to get to the kids to indoctrinate them in believing homosexuality is an ok lifestyle and we the people who voted yes on 8 defeated that . We must be careful though because the gays are becoming desperate and beating up elderly people and violently hurting people in the streets. THey will murder to get what they want. Remember 98% of homosexuals have been molested we must not leave them alone with kids. yes on 8

God bless the people who voted on yes 8 for they have truly saved our children form these people preying on innocent children in our schools...yes on 8 god bless you all!!! yeah for the kids!
Thanks so much to the black community for rising up against indecency. Even the african americans know homosexuality is wrong and god bless the african americans who just saved all our children
I am a white parent and I would like to say to every black person who voted Yes on 8 THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU! You and you alone saved our kids . God bless the Afican AMericans I will love you until the day I die and forever be in gratitude! yes on 8

Anyone that starts out a comment saying 'Im white, but" or "I got me a black friend". You know what is really in that evil heart.
There are enormous differences between men and women, but there are no differences between people of different races. Men and women are inherently different, but blacks and whites (and yellows and browns) are inherently the same. Therefore, any imposed separation by race can never be moral or even rational; on the other hand, separation by sex can be both morally desirable and rational. Separate bathrooms for men and women is moral and rational; separate bathrooms for blacks and whites is not.
Why so many people mad at black people, do you honestly believe that many blacks voted was able to ban gay marriage alone. Half of us was our first time voting and all they knew is to just vote for Barack and turn the damn ballot in, period. Stop blaming blacks for everything!
im a cristian black but i dont think if you voted yes on prop 8 your gay or that your for gay marriage its a constitutional thing and im suprised but kinda not that blacks voted so heavy for it because blacks should kno so much about discrimination on simple rights as a us citizen point is if it was up to the public and not the supreme court desegragation laws would have not pass alot of civil rights laws for blacks would not have passed because the right thing to do was not always popular
I guess the sour taste of a victory that does nothing but increase the sum total of human pain and sorrow in the world, that only sets people at each other's throats, is sinking in.
Are your lives any happier? Your marriages any safer or stronger? No. Of course not.
What you have done is simply to exercise power for the sake of feeling powerful, the power of the mob to say: because there are more of us than you, we can do whatever we please.
No racist person I've ever encountered really disliked people of other races for the color of their skin; they all talk about behaviors they associate with those social groups.
So, is being black a matter of "being black" or "acting black"? If the latter, isn't that a "lifestyle choice," not an immutable, inborn characteristic? I've heard blacks accuse other blacks of "acting white" with my own ears. Doesn't that imply the reverse--that one can "act" black or white at one's discretion?
Despite being a social liberal Democrat, I'm with you on this one. I've kind of wondered how people who call themselves liberal or tolerant are among the most intolerant and hateful people towards those who disagree with them.
These people fail to understand two things: 1) We are not a democracy, but a Federal Republic, in which States have sovereign rights, and regional diversity is respected, and 2) Conservative Republicans are our fellow Americans, even though they have different views.
@turbod16y8 The most hatefilled speech I have ever heard has come from conservatives. Worst of all, is the lie that liberals are intollerant. That's just the pot clling the kettle black. Word after word, page after page, hour after hour, the conservatives stir up fear and hatred, from nutty "birthers" to lies about "death panels," to racist anti-Obama posters. And LIBERALS are hateful? Gimme a break!
@TheStrong32 so your definition of HATE speech is wanting to see the Presiden'ts birth certificate to satisfy the constitution? REALLY? Harassing Mormon Christians by surround their places of worship and demanding that the buildings be burned down, that is fine?
@omiolo "so your definition of HATE speech is wanting to see the Presiden'ts birth certificate to satisfy the constitution?
You've SEEN the President's birth certificate. It was published long before the election, and has been verified by the proper legal authorities in Hawaii. I call it hate speech to lie about the president, to try to pretend he is one of "them" (i.e., not on of "us", i.e., WASP). It's hate speech to pretend he's Muslim (one of "them"), when he has said he is Christian.
@omiolo "REALLY? Harassing Mormon Christians by surround their places of worship and demanding that the buildings be burned down, that is fine?"
No, that's not fine. And don't paint all gay rghts actvists with that same brush. Christians have bombed abortion clinics and murdered doctors; is it fair to say that that's what Christianity is all about? That *that's* how Christians act?
@turbod16y8 We live in a federal republic and not a democracy, not by the majority saying what rights a minority group has and doesnt have, and to marry is a right
I can't help but note a certain historical irony here. African-Americans have come so far politically that they no longer feel any desire to ally with other civil rights groups. There will be a large number of African-Americans joining the Republican party within twenty years, in all likelihood. They have achieved equality, and can now join the same sorts of anti-civil-rights groups that used to persecute them.
I woke up this morning and cried I dont think people undestand what it does to our familys being treated diferently by our own laws. I voted for barack obama hoping that the future would be brighter for all people. Its really sad that african americans have come so far at the same time overwelmingly suporting a bill that takes away rights that they themselfs didnt have 40 years ago.
domestic partners are seperate but equale if any one knows how that feels african americans should. my family just want what every american family wants. freedom and the ability to live our lifes. There isnt any way I can change who I am, I was born gay and will dye gay. It is how i choose to live my life open honest loving and with the belief that God will acept all his children into his arms at the end of my life.
I know a lot of African-Americans who are OFFENDED by Prop. 8, so don't pretend to speak for everyone. Brown vs. the Board of Education was a court decision that offended many people because it "redefined" a racial order that many people considered tremendously important.
Of course, ~70% of black children are still born out of wedlock--will voting for Prop. 8 do anything about that? I find your moral posturing on this issue laughable.
You're dodging the issue. You claimed to speak for the whole African-American community. You don't. As for not knowing civil rights, here's a short list of authors I often teach: Olaudah Equiano, Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, Richard Wright, James Baldwin, and Alice Walker: African Americans who achieved great things and who were/are a lot more articulate and intelligent than you or the 70% of black voters who were fooled into supporting Prop. 8.
The Mormon Church has been carrying on anti-gay campaigns for years, funneling all kinds of money into them. I'd be a fool if I were tolerant of them. In fact, you may consider this my open Declaration of War on the Church of LDS. If I were a Jew in 1930s Germany (or a homosexual), should I "tolerate" Nazis?
I think you don't realize that a line has been crossed here. With the success of Prop. 8, you've made enemies, and they are going to come after you.
@omiolo "so you are NOT tolerant of Mormons? Tolerance is a one way street where you live?"
For myself, I bear no prejudice or malice against Mormons or Mormonism. I feel hurt that they bear malice towards me, when I have done nothing against them. People are free to believe anything they want; but in return, shouldn't they be expected to show tollerance towards others who don't even belong to their group? Curches which enjoy tax exemption are forbidden by law to be be involved in politics.

This is all pre-planned. Another way to silence the reality of what is going on around this globe. Racism-white supremacy (psychoses) purposely uses every ploy to further subjugate black (brown) people. In this case, the method is to join antisexual acts with race.

Being gay is not a behavior. People are born gay and people can't change their atttraction. Is the second guy serious? The are big difference between whites and blacks. The point is that our differences should be celebrates and not fear. These people are ignorant beyond belief.
josbo51713 3 years ago 4
Speaking of ignorance, you just contradicted just about ever major scientific study done on the topic of homosexuality. Congrats. Homosexuality IS a behavior, and no, there is no evidence that homosexuality is purely genetic or biologic. On the contrary, the consensus is that homosexual attraction is a result of biologic, psychological, and social factors.
Oh, and the "differences" between whites and blacks (in this country) are mostly a result of the discrimination blacks suffered in the past.
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
Did I say that homosexuality is purely genetic? Homosexuality is not a behavior. A person can be a homosexual without ever engaging relations with someone of the same sex. Homosexuality simply means that a person is attracted to members of his or her own sex. And I have no idea what you are talking about regarding discrimination. Gays have been discriminated against also and still are today.
josbo51713 3 years ago
You said that gays are "born gay." The science showing the psychological and social effects (both of which are environmental) would seem to disagree with you. Unless you know something more than the scientists do. Please share, you will win a Nobel Prize.
I will leave you to read the studies on your own so that you can clear up your misconception about homosexuality and behavior.
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
You are ignorant. Talk to any gay person and most of them will tell you that they realized their sexual orientation at a very young age—some as early as four or five. The science shows that there are people who are born with a homosexuality predisposition. Many gay men are born with an extra "X" chromosome. Scientists are now trying control a person's sexual orientation by injection hormones in utero which goes to show that genetics play a major role in a persons sexual orientation.
josbo51713 3 years ago
Of course science shows that there are people who are born with a homosexuality predisposition(this is that biologic component I talked about), but this is not the same as saying (as you claimed) that the people are "born gay." In the same way that tall people have a natural predisposition to being NBA players, doesn't mean that all tall players actually become or have the skill/willpower to become NBA players.
In contrast you are born with your skin color and no skill/willpower will change that
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
Again, just because a lot of gay people say that they realized their sexual orientation at a young age, doesn't prove that they were born that way at all..
In fact, everyday experience with people (particularly women) changing their sexual orientation throughout their lifetimes (going from straight to bi..or straight to lesbian) is quite common and confirms the changeability of orientation.
Like the guy in the video says, a black person has never said.. "I used to be black."
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
Some women go around kissing each other because they are trying to be cool. Nobody goes from being gay to straight. Many people are bisexual and chose to be with different partners at different stages in their lives. I have never heard a gay person say "I used to be gay." What people say is that they have decided not to live a gay lifestyle. Many of the people doing it were never gay in the first place-- they were bisexual. That's a big difference!
josbo51713 3 years ago
Lot of people have gone from gay to straight. You should research "reparation therapy."
I also personally know women that have changed from straight to lesbian and back to straight again. So my personal experience would disagree with yours.
And the fact that race or gender is *completely* determined by genes (which is why people can't change those)whereas science has known that homosexuality is not but a behavior governed by biologic, social, and psychologic factors damages your hypothesis.
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
You are not gay so you have no idea whether being gay is a choice or not. Who in their right mind would chose to be gay? Who wants to be vilified and persecuted? And I know all about reparation therapy. It doesn't work! It's torture. All they do is force people to undergo electric shock and reinforce homophobic stereotypes. Research shows that few have done the reparation therapy and made a permanent conversion. Most the people go back to living a homosexual lifestyle within 1-2 years.
josbo51713 3 years ago
Rehabilitation efforts of all sorts tend to have less than stellar success rates (including those for alcohol and drugs)because success depends greatly on the how much the individual truly wants to change.
With your logic, who in their right mind would choose to be an alcoholic or drug addict- especially with all the social stigma attached to those things? Yet many people do these things and in spite of this, I see nobody seriously claiming people are born an alcoholic or drug addict.
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
"You are not gay so you have no idea whether being gay is a choice or not. "
I never said that homosexuality was always a choice.
I go by the scientific results. The current consensus is that gays are NOT born that way despite the myths and stereotypes to passed by the liberal media. If a gay gene is ever discovered or scientists say otherwise, I'll be glad to change my position.
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago
Bisexuals are still gay, btw.
lancerCNCS1 3 years ago

'behaviour' is used to trivialise it, gay, marriage, gender, love or life are not behaviour.
hakeemkaz 3 years ago 4
you say just coz i was born a boy i have to live my life on your say so? by your rules? like if i was born 200yrs ago just coz i'm black i was a slave?

is descriminination only descrimination/wrong if its against you? noone has seperated their points from prejudice n bias. you show this n your ignorance in the words you use n the applause. your audience is also ignorant n sheep.
hakeemkaz 3 years ago
These people are incredibly ignorant. Being gay is not a choice. You are born gay, just as you are born black or white. To say otherwise flys in the face of science and common knowledge. It is disturbing to see an African-American man elevating his civil rights and denegrating those of an entire class of Americans. Apparently, he has yet to learn the lessons of his ancestors own struggle and that is unfortunate.

Remember 98% of homosexuals have been molested we must not leave them alone with kids. yes on 8

Separate bathrooms for men and women is moral and rational; separate bathrooms for blacks and whites is not.

im a cristian black but i dont think if you voted yes on prop 8 your gay or that your for gay marriage its a constitutional thing and im suprised but kinda not that blacks voted so heavy for it because blacks should kno so much about discrimination on simple rights as a us citizen point is if it was up to the public and not the supreme court desegragation laws would have not pass alot of civil rights laws for blacks would not have passed because the right thing to do was not always popular

Why do the No on Prop 8 people hate blacks?
YesProp8 3 years ago
No more response?
I guess the sour taste of a victory that does nothing but increase the sum total of human pain and sorrow in the world, that only sets people at each other's throats, is sinking in.
Are your lives any happier? Your marriages any safer or stronger? No. Of course not.
What you have done is simply to exercise power for the sake of feeling powerful, the power of the mob to say: because there are more of us than you, we can do whatever we please.
southerner66 3 years ago

These people fail to understand two things: 1) We are not a democracy, but a Federal Republic, in which States have sovereign rights, and regional diversity is respected, and 2) Conservative Republicans are our fellow Americans, even though they have different views.
turbod16y8 3 years ago 7
@turbod16y8 The most hatefilled speech I have ever heard has come from conservatives. Worst of all, is the lie that liberals are intollerant. That's just the pot clling the kettle black. Word after word, page after page, hour after hour, the conservatives stir up fear and hatred, from nutty "birthers" to lies about "death panels," to racist anti-Obama posters. And LIBERALS are hateful? Gimme a break!
TheStrong32 1 year ago
@TheStrong32 so your definition of HATE speech is wanting to see the Presiden'ts birth certificate to satisfy the constitution? REALLY? Harassing Mormon Christians by surround their places of worship and demanding that the buildings be burned down, that is fine?
omiolo 1 year ago
@omiolo "so your definition of HATE speech is wanting to see the Presiden'ts birth certificate to satisfy the constitution?
You've SEEN the President's birth certificate. It was published long before the election, and has been verified by the proper legal authorities in Hawaii. I call it hate speech to lie about the president, to try to pretend he is one of "them" (i.e., not on of "us", i.e., WASP). It's hate speech to pretend he's Muslim (one of "them"), when he has said he is Christian.
TheStrong32 1 year ago
@omiolo "REALLY? Harassing Mormon Christians by surround their places of worship and demanding that the buildings be burned down, that is fine?"
No, that's not fine. And don't paint all gay rghts actvists with that same brush. Christians have bombed abortion clinics and murdered doctors; is it fair to say that that's what Christianity is all about? That *that's* how Christians act?
TheStrong32 1 year ago
@turbod16y8 We live in a federal republic and not a democracy, not by the majority saying what rights a minority group has and doesnt have, and to marry is a right

I can't help but note a certain historical irony here. African-Americans have come so far politically that they no longer feel any desire to ally with other civil rights groups. There will be a large number of African-Americans joining the Republican party within twenty years, in all likelihood. They have achieved equality, and can now join the same sorts of anti-civil-rights groups that used to persecute them.

the African American community was OFFENDED that you would compare redefining marriage to what they fought for with CIVIL RIGHTS.
You obviously did NOT care about how you treated African Americans and their struggle. They were outraged.
omiolo 3 years ago
domestic partners are seperate but equale if any one knows how that feels african americans should. my family just want what every american family wants. freedom and the ability to live our lifes. There isnt any way I can change who I am, I was born gay and will dye gay. It is how i choose to live my life open honest loving and with the belief that God will acept all his children into his arms at the end of my life.
depfox 3 years ago
"domestic partners are seperate but equale if any one knows how that feels african americans should"
African Americans like ALL americans know that when it comes to GENDER separate but equal is the law and NO ONE is asking that it be changed.
We have separate but equal BATHROOMS, LOCKER ROOMS, and HOSPiTALS based on GENDER!
to compare that to race is OFFENSIVE and WRONG to the African American community.
omiolo 3 years ago
@omiolo "when it comes to GENDER separate but equal is the law"
Apparently, you don't know anything about the law. GENDER discrmination is against the law.

"the African American community was OFFENDED..."
I find your moral posturing on this issue laughable.
southerner66 3 years ago
"I know a lot of African-Americans who are OFFENDED by Prop. 8,"
well apparently you don't know 70% of the African American population who were repulsed that you would claim to know civil rights.
omiolo 3 years ago
You're dodging the issue. You claimed to speak for the whole African-American community. You don't. As for not knowing civil rights, here's a short list of authors I often teach: Olaudah Equiano, Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, Richard Wright, James Baldwin, and Alice Walker: African Americans who achieved great things and who were/are a lot more articulate and intelligent than you or the 70% of black voters who were fooled into supporting Prop. 8.
southerner66 3 years ago
To omiolo: Oh, I checked your page. You're a Mormon. That explains everything. Say hi to the salamander for me.
southerner66 3 years ago
"You're a Mormon. That explains everything"
so you are NOT tolerant of Mormons? Tolerance is a one way street where you live?
only something you demand?
omiolo 3 years ago 8
The Mormon Church has been carrying on anti-gay campaigns for years, funneling all kinds of money into them. I'd be a fool if I were tolerant of them. In fact, you may consider this my open Declaration of War on the Church of LDS. If I were a Jew in 1930s Germany (or a homosexual), should I "tolerate" Nazis?
I think you don't realize that a line has been crossed here. With the success of Prop. 8, you've made enemies, and they are going to come after you.
southerner66 3 years ago
@omiolo "so you are NOT tolerant of Mormons? Tolerance is a one way street where you live?"
For myself, I bear no prejudice or malice against Mormons or Mormonism. I feel hurt that they bear malice towards me, when I have done nothing against them. People are free to believe anything they want; but in return, shouldn't they be expected to show tollerance towards others who don't even belong to their group? Curches which enjoy tax exemption are forbidden by law to be be involved in politics.
