i used to be sold to ampeg as well, until i heard how MUDDY half of the cabinets sound when going lower than a D, and the outsourcing to Vietnam did not help. Ampeg < Shit < Behringer < Fender < SWR < Mesa < Eden, although Eden is WAY overpriced, so id go with Mesa.
@DargothraatnE I have never had the pleasure of using or owning one, and i wanted one as well, but they were too expensive so i went with some used SWR stuff. everything i have read though says that its a powerful monster; its loud, its got great tone and great overdrive. and as to roadworthiness, i havent read anything about that really, as apparently anyone who sends that much money on a head, takes no chances and buys a rackcase lol

I've owned G/K, they got great mids and high end. they distort too much with the volume cranked up and the low end is weak. I traded in for Ampeg for better lows as I play hard rock/ metal. I would say G/K is better slap/funk bassists...in my opinion.
I've had no problems with my Markbass head or G-K cabs at all yet.And I've had eveything sinceMarch of'08. Markbass are the cleanest amps you'll ever hear.They do not color the tone of your Bass at all.

I have the opportunity to get an Ampeg B4R or a G-K2000RB for about the same price, and for the life of me I can't find anything that can show me the tonal possibilities available with each one. Specs are one thing (and they are VERY similar) but how do I know which one is for me? I have an Ampeg 8x10E Cab. and I just want the RIGHT head to match it. Please help, and your honesty would be greatly respected! Thanks. Cheers.
I decided to go with the Ampeg B4r, because my soulpatch liked the idea. I don't think I will be able to find another SLM head, to go with my SLM cab, for this price. I think they will sound great matched and if I need to have the G-K sound for solos I can get a Diesel Dawg pedal. Cheers.
My beard loves my 800RB, and it frowned upon my old SVT4-Pro :] Seriously, I'm never buying Ampeg stuff again, I actually regret even buying the hoodie and hat...

Ive owned both Ampeg and GK both are good amps, it's just a matter of personal choice.I prefer the sound of my SVT heads.

Their vintage equipment is killer. Glockenklang, EBS, Mesa Boogie, and Carvin are awesome too.
