  • i guess DIVX didnt last long, lol

  • Nope- it was only on the market for about 9 months- September 1998 til June 1999. Its ambitions of taking over the entire home video market were very short-lived.

  • wow, that advertizing is so malicious. no late fees, and you don't have to return them, but no mention of having to pay each time you watch the damn thing.

  • Yeah- Disney was really hoping this would catch on since they thought they'd make a mint off multiple plays. Any DIVX disc could be disabled at any time as well, so if they decided to put a movie on moratorium or discovered naughty things hidden in it, they could render all existing copies unplayable. For once, the public rejected a stupid technology though.

  • Beleived it or not, it took 4-5 years for DVD to drop under 199$. Bought mine for 800$ in 1997 at launch ;)

  • I jumped in around 1999 when I saw a player for $399.

  • Only $350 lol

  • That's what I'm saying make lol, ONLY $350 lol.

  • God I hated that format! (at least the MP4 codec baring the name does a better job of being playable on most current DVD players)
