  • When you buy a car you usually buy it for its fuel economy, reliability, and the colour it arrives in.

Now just imagine the colour you chose looks dated, well you have to go out and spend another fortune on a newer model or buy a Smart.

Toyota should never have tried to compete with Smart because a Smart is unique in the way its built

The Smart is unique in its market the IQ is not, the Aygo,C1,107,Fiat 500

The Smart & IQ cost too much thats why they are both a rare sight

  • A Smart not being a proper car What nonsense.

A proper car is something that has four wheels,a steering wheel and is easy to park, just like the original Mini.

Unlike the Toyota IQ my Smart has a diesel engine and has given me a genuine 90mpg.

Unlike the IQ and any other car availble my Smart has plastic bodypanels and if you get bored with the colour of your car like i have you can change the entire colour of your vehicle. THATS HANDY

You see why try and compete with a Smart

  • mat watson ftw!

  • too expensive imo

  • toyota iq is better than smart

  • An Aygo makes more sense IMO, you have the option of 5 doors and better looks.

  • @CourierA2Z

I used to own the Aygo Diesel and that was a magnificent little car with real world fuel economy of 80+ to the gallon.

The Aygo,Pegeot 107or Citroen C1 are all lovely little cars and far better value than the way overpriced Toyota IQ.

  • Too expensive that should a $10,000 dollars car.

  • As the 1 litre it doesnt get 65 mpg which the Manufacturers claim, it get 50mpg in reality to get 65mpg you would have to drive like mr Magoo, it not as ecconomical as everyone thinks. And it got no boot space you better of with an Aygo which gets Better MPG and more of a Boot and it cheaper to buy.

  • Perfect vehicle for a single student in college who doesn't have a family yet and doesn't make much working a part time job.

  • @Aldenif i don't think you can afford this car working at a part time job...

  • @TheHaos1 You can if your parents buy it for you and all you have to do is pay for you own fuel. HaHaHaha

  • At 1:50, he does in fact say 65 MPG !!!!!!

  • @GreenTransportation THAT'S WHAT I WAS FREAKING OUT ABOUT!! My jaw dropped! I can't believe he just said the iQ would get 65 mpg! Take that ubber-expensive Prius!

  • @CarlosGraOca but the prius can actually comfortably carry 5 people -_-

  • @loyalqueen

If you compare like with like and cars of similar price.

The VW Golf Tdi 5dr costs much the same as a Prius and the Golf returns better fuel economy, seats 5 very comfortably and retains more of its value longterm.

There are few cars able to match the residual value of a well maintained Golf be it petrol or diesel.

  • @CarlosGraOca Interesting thoughts here, however, I don't find the Prius to be uber expensive at all. In fact, it's pretty average priced & if one gets a pre-owned...it's quite affordable for most. I mean, are we really going to balk at a mid 20K priced car anymore? Still, as a self confessed "bad parker" I can't wait to see if the IQ will fit my lifestyle. It would be grand not to worry about parking in Downtown Charleston (SC - USA.)

  • @onlinedesign

Blimey your surname must be Gates.

20k+ for a vehicle whose economy is only average compared to say the far better VW Golf TDi Bluemotion.

en there are several superb and slightly cheaper Turbodiesels available which return better fuel economy it makes little sense buying a Prius.

The IQ is no alternative to the Smart, blimey they want nearly £1000 for the Sat/Nav on the base models.

Both the Smart & IQ are way too expensive.

  • @llandudnoboy Oh "boy," - I appreciate your sense of humor! Thanks for your witty reply; some folks can get down-right snarky when talking about their favorite cars.

I don't sell cars, but I do work for a LARGE U.S. Toyota Dealership in the IT department so I'm privy to their prices (public & private.) I'm a Toyota loyalist of sorts because I think they represent a superior product. THAT'S MY OPINION, not to say it's the ONLY superior product on the market.

  • @llandudnoboy As with any new technology, you can expect to pay a little more; be-it a Smart Phone or a Smart Car. Here in the US, people just "like what they like." Some folks aren't going to consider a VW or a Diesel...just because, and that's okay. I agree NAV prices seem high, but it's the wave of the future. Prices will get better. I still like the style & drive of the Prius. One thing's for certain, the future holds amazing technology unveils & we're sure blessed to see it.

  • i have the original Smart Fortwo, which is great for my pocket, unfortunately its not for my arse (it hates bumps), but Toyota have done small car owners proud with this iQ, the 3+1 seating, it doesnt cost you anything in roadtax & they've done what Smart just can't & put a manual proper gearbox in............me thinks new car! :D

  • 1:39 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! =)))))))

  • oh.....it looks so sweet ;-)

  • Unmaxen. I drive a Hilux and the steering has great feel and feedback. The IQ and Smart look great. It's the way to go.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice little review, but the music track was annoying and too loud compared to the dialogue.

  • WHATTTTTTT THE FUCK ITS UGLY THATS THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT IT NOT THE BEST THING ABOUT clearly u have no passion for style

  • @dunemoonbeam That's just sad, don't like it don't comment it.

  • Toyota lended me an IQ for two days while my own car was repaired. I have to say that I could and would gladly be an owner of an IQ. It's pretty good looking for a car like this and it's pretty comfortable also.

  • why is the gas tank under the drivers seat? isnt that dangerous?

  • Smart and IQ are both good. Smart has two seats and a boot. IQ has 3 seats but no boot. Take your pick.

  • The steering feel sucks on ALL Toyota cars. Can't feel the car or the road at all.

  • That looks real nice -- pls don't change it for the US market!

  • I have a smart fortwo, and I'm glad there's no backseat in it. Nothing to fold down to put stuff in the back!

  • @Scorponok2009 20 seconds to fold down seats.. and you have a lot of space in the back..not that hard..

  • Hey, If I wanted to fold down the passenger's seat, it wouldn't take 20 seconds. It would take 3.

  • smart v. iq? ok so, europe and asia have been

making cars this size (& much smaller) for decades

for the north american market it just seems

like the smart was the innovator (timing is

    everything)

  • had the smart fortwo in canada b4 the gas engine debuted in the u.s. tranny & busy diesel were dreadful. gas engine is smoother but, iq is still more refined inside & under hood but, price would kill it. base 4dr yaris & base smart fortwo are almost exactly the same (CDN$) iq & fortwo are toys for people w/disposable cash or singles/childless couples that choose style over practicality (try safely/legally bringing home dimensional lumber from home depot!) yaris & others? no prob
  • im a bloke and i like the iq very much, its a great little car !!

It is SO NOT A WOMANS CAR

  • did anyone else notice that the steering wheel is somewhat obsructed by the dash...??? or was it just the angle of the cam???

  • @truknayr23 it's an angle - he's been turning the wheel leaving hands on without problems

  • @roman1riga yeah... i guess you're right... i tried watching it again and yeah... it's the angle...

  • I drive One and this is a great car everything this gys says is true as I drive one

  • 68bhp is excellent, my car only has 32 (!) but i guess this compact car weighs a lot due to modern safety features so performance is compromised.

  • his toothbrush has 68hp..wonder whether tat's gonna rip his teeth off..lolz

  • love the last logo

  • I want one Mr. Scion Sir....will you please send it to the USA???? Please? I will commit to buying two....what ya reckon mate?

  • @Deepackpage There going to lauch the Scion iQ soon. I think later this or this summer

  • God I hate toyotas design team, every new eco car they have made looks the exact same. Those headlights they keep putting on all their cars are horrid.

  • honda really needs to make a micro car.

  • The music is annoying!

  • When this car comes to the US I hope it still gets 50+ mpg and doesn't cost more than $14,000. Could anyone from Europe who owns this car let me know if a 6'2" tall driver can fit comfortably in both front seats? I sat in a Smart ForTwo and the driver side was fine but there wasn't enough legroom on the passenger side. Thanks.

  • Hey... I drive the iQ and I am 1.87 meters tall and i´m not the smallest person. and i was speechless ´bout the room in this car! well, although the car is so small; it´s a giant

  • Hey Pase thanks for the comment about your height and experience/opinion of this car. A fellow 1.87 meter tall consumer here interested in the feel of this car :)

  • 6'2 driver and passenger will fit with ease.

  • i spent sometime w/one of these (in tokyo) in

2008. im 6.2", 200lbs, slim build, my wife is 5'8", 140lbs, so she says ;) & average build.

we had no trouble fitting in this car at all but, i

definitely say it is a three seater while im driving

theres no way two six footers could sit on the

same side of the car and if two are in front, i

hope the person in back is not well liked

under the hatch is crazy tiny too but, w/the

seats down & two people most of the time -

    no problem

  • Scion made this car soooo much sexier.

  • Giving a Smart 2 more doors and Toyota dosen't equal a good car, wait this IS a Toyota? Even the name admits itself to being a Smart copy! Smart\IQ anyone?

  • to expensive,...................

  • A very true comment, payed for a great car though

  • Excellent car. Far better quality than the Smart. More expensive but worth it

  • @54168 Been in both the Smart and the IQ. They are equal for me, both great fun to drive and very cheap to run. You can buy used smart cars all over the UK and it costs nothing to run, good value.

  • @warriorprince1010

    Wise words my friend

I drive a Smart Cdi and its great fun to drive and own.

One thing i do like are the all round plastic panels so if you do bump the car replaceing them is straight forward.

Replacing the panels on an IQ is not an option unless you crash it that is and then replacing them will be oh so expensive.

  • @llandudnoboy Yes the Smart is great value. They sell 1L engine smarts for around £3000 in the UK, and £20 tax, 60mpg, great value.

  • @llandudnoboy It would not have killed Toyota to design the iQ so that we can replace the parts more easily. They did it for the Toyota Aygo

  • @54168

Not if you damage one of those unique bodypannels which a friend did recently.

She is now £600 worse off.

Now if she had bought the Smart i could have given her a free wing and door pannel and fitted them for her in less than an hour.

You see the IQ is being too clever trying to compete with a car that is totally different.

A Smart is a two seater and if its the Cdi a fuel miser aswell.

The Smart has SAT/NAV as standard it costs nearly £1000 in the IQ.

    No contest.

  • Carbon copy of the little guy from Top Gear. Be original!!!

  • BRING IT TO THE USA

    I WANT TWO

  • It's Toyota quality plus smaller than the majority of vehicles in the roads. It won't pass the NHTSA test.

  • why not ?

  • I read in Automobile that all they have to do is revise the front and rear bumpers to meet U.S. safety standards.

  • Excellent looking car

  • No sense of how a car should look obvisly....

  • awesome review beside the infiniti G video (should I call that Skyline? :P)

  • good review
