  • Thank you, It's great to see the films that songs are associated with. I love this tune but I had never seen the film! Keep up the good work.

  • too much enthusiasm

  • rainymod fuck yeah!

  • RAINYMOOD <3

  • Excellent video and performance. Thanks.

  • Again with no mic. Maybe a time traveler.

  • So natural... a housewife who wanted to tend the garden, raise children, humm a song, and pet the animals,,, was surrounded by incompelete men.... Joao? Stan? Burton? Musical genius yes... human?.... no. They all did not know who was in their presence..a class act and complete woman If I was there... I would have made Astrud my queen ! Sabor a mi... Astrud..... enjoy life.

  • She has such grace.

  • Luv bossa nova. The singers hot too lulz

  • Proud to be Brazilian. Thanks for the great song Tom Jobin

  • like if rainymood . com brought you here <3

  • I like how the band is so modest

  • Did this come frim a movie?????? If it did i wanna know so i can see it????? Awsome song, fuck todays music.

  • of all the versions i think this is my favourite second is frank sinatra's, is this the original?

  • @badjuju87 The original version was performed by Pery Ribeiro ("A Garota de Ipanema", 1962). You can find it here on YouTube. But Astrud Gilberto's version from the album Getz/Gilberto (1964) is what made the song such a huge success.

  • Onverslaanbaar. Soms beter luisteren dan kijken maar wat een timing en stemgeluid en dan de sax van Stan ... Top nog steeds !

  • I'm 14 I haven't heard this since I was 8

  • I want the one in the white. With the blue showercap.

  • What's Jerry Lewis doing on the xylophone?

  • Why isn't modern music this good.

  • rocketjay, of the several posts of this very clip on youtube, yours is the best in both audio and visual. Thank you for this.

  • This is how it was in the 60's...... and it is a class act. Despite the style and props,....the natural beauty, musical composition, and simplicity of performance is supurb.,,, 50 years later.

Astrud is so sensual..... without even trying... a natural belle.

Look at her eyes as they look above... and then move aside.... it is totally captivating.

  • @milessinatra Eloquently said, Milessinatra.

One clarification I'd like to add is that this is more specifically from the *early* sixties; a world of difference from the latter half of that decade that ran roughshod over the class and finesse of this era, which is so well expressed in this clip: refined and understated.

  • @ 00:53, Astrud realizes that her crappy agent booked her at a beehive/pantyhose/leotard convention at a ski resort!

  • @RedSoreLips Imagine how Getz was feeling. Hmmmm

  • @BashuUp

not felling well i think.. hahaha..

  • Fabulosa!!

  • HD very good

  • Ultra cool and very very chic...I like...!

  • i got an aunt and uncle who had people over the floor every day, and they always had music playing like this. My uncle died, and my aunt is way in her 80's now, but she didn't whine when my uncle died, she found anouther good friend were she lives together with, and he loves the same things as my uncle loved, and that is people over the floor, a glas of wine, and the girl from impenia playing, and have the time of their life, everday again and agian. What a great life some people have.

  • sutil...!

  • Ah! I finally found out that Ipanema is a popular beach in Rio! You learn something new from songs everyday :D

  • There's nothing classy like this today.

The music scene has gone to Hell in a handbasket.

  • @Zorgadoni spot on . thats why were here listening to this, well said that man (or woman) !

  • You can't get much better than this

  • Is that Gary Burton on vibes?

  • @stevewesly1 it is for sure. I just saw him play last monday at the Detroit Jazz Fest.

  • @stevewesly1 yep Gary at age 21

  • great arrangement with the vibes!

  • wonderful, she is so sweet always

  • From the film "Get Yourself A College Girl", that was the first time I heard this song and Bossa Nova...

  • bella :')

  • astrud gilberto + inherent beauty + 1960's hair/ fashion = remarkable

  • to me, she looks a little bit similar to Anna Paquin

  • my heart i would give gladly

  • How can I tell you I love you?

  • @keriyj Me . :)

  • @keriyj ฟังสบายจัง ฟังตามพี่ซินอีกคนจ้า

  • Gary Burton on vibes.

  • Astrud is the definition of sexy and classy = A Woman!!!!!!

  • 10 people won't go to Ipanema

  • Saw this at a drive-in movie when I was a kid and loved Astrud Gilberto!

  • Still very nice...

  • The intro to Curren$y's Breakfast video brought me here.

  • This is the song that made Bossa Nova known to the world.

  • @manuel82ification

    Wrong.

The song that made Bossa Nova known to the world was the hit arrangement by Joe Harnell of "Fly Me To The Moon".

  • Wow, she is beautiful

    ♡♡

  • The very best part about the performance that has kept me coming back for over four years is how Astrud doesn't realize she's singing about herself. Absolute near-ethereal perfection.

  • My mother's favourite song!!!

  • wow..

    i love jazz..

  • I never hear much about Astrud anymore. I believe that she is 71 years old now; I hope that she is well. Without a doubt one of the greatest singing voices of the 20th century.

  • i love...

  • The best ever. Chilling, classy - I want to listen to this while I'm at a beach, sipping a cocktail. ;-)

  • This is a cool song, the vibe is relaxing...

  • great great great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • astrud looks so enthralled! love this song by stan

  • Those kids playing jazz were all on pot back then. :)-

    I love this video!

  • I just love her deadpan face as she sings.

  • hahaha...the sixties are better than now...why do everybody enjoy to go BACK IN TIME...buy vinyl instead of CD..

    DOLBY is in Vain?

  • I've gotta find this place, the women are hot and the music is perfect! ;-)

  • CLASSIC !!!

  • I recall I was that boy in the lyrics of this song. So sad, isn't it?

  • Whenever I see these old movies I wonder how many of the people in them are still alive.

  • hermosa i love this womans !!!!

  • I love this so much. Never saw Stan but have seen Gary Burton several times. He looks so young

  • The snow is there because the name of this movie is "Ski Party " and it takes place at a ski lodge. It also has Frankie Avalon, Leslie Gore, and James Brown in it. I know, because I saw when it first came out in 1965

  • @jackiejoe This is not Ski Party but Get Yourself A College Girl. I have seen both more than once.

  • ... Er, you sure, man? According to Wikipedia and every upload's description of this, it seems to be from Get Yourself a College Girl.

  • @jackiejoe This clip is from "Get Yourself A College Girl", 1964 starring among others Nancy Sinatra, The Dave Clark Five, The Animals, Jimmy Smith Trio, Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz. Gilberto and Getz do not appear in "Ski Party". Maybe you saw a double feature with both movies! ;-)

  • @jackiejoe

    Wrong.

"Ski Party" does not feature Astrud Gilberto nor Stan Getz singing/playing "Girl From Ipanema".

That movie has the usual "Beach....." stars in it - Avalon and Funicello.

  • the winter landscape in the background is quite irritating - is there any explanation for this?

  • @aguirre67

    It was winter.

  • Awesome! I didn't know this movie existed until now. Thanks for sharing!

  • One of the greatest songs of all time, bar none!!!

  • Simply Beautiful!

  • I love Astrud.

  • good song, boy they really shortened it for this film, probably the only good 3 min of the movie, saw this movie not too long ago

  • Tomorrow Feb 2 is Stan Getz birthday.

And yes... that IS a very young Gary Burton in this video.

  • @DrumTchr I was just going to ask that about Gary!

  • Great song and video. Ahhh, the good old days. When class was king.

  • Beautiful! Not much more than a hauntingly beautiful voice and its sax equivalent. That's all it takes, sometimes. Brilliance doesn't require electronic props or trashy looking women. Two thumbs up!

  • Like this song :)

  • 10 sordos

  • HERMOSAAAAAAAAAA

  • Woody Allen on Vibes.

Fat guy in white wandering around.

    Strangely breasted women.

    Robot singing

  • And yes THIS IS ASTRUD GILBERTO, her hair is done like that because all the girls hair was like that in 64 andshe is supposed to be one of the college girls

  • This is from a movie with Sun Valley in the name and I think Chad Everett was in this movie. Stan Getz...enormously talented sax player, too bad he was also a herion addict, hurt his talent big time. As or Astrus walking away, thats the way the song ended so to make it look like her voice was fadeing n the movie she walked away from the mic. Sorry the movie was called get yourself a college girl, but was supposed to take place in Sun Valley

  • What's the name of the saxophonist in this video?

  • @MAMDADDY That's the late, great Stan Getz. Stan Getz what Stan wants.

  • People looked so cool in the 1960's. Notice how sexy the women looked. And it wasn't vulger. It was classy.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 I quote Dave Chappelle: "A girl walks by and man, she looks good. Not in that classical way- I'm talking good like she's got half her ass hangin out her skirt- Mmm! Her titties all mashed together, poppin out of her turtle neck n shit." But really they were classy back then, what you said just reminded me of that hahaha.

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 I'm sure that people at the time claimed it was vulgar.

  • @phenylphenol You know it.

  • @phenylphenol said "I'm sure that people at the time claimed it was vulgar."

No, I can assure that we did NOT consider it vulgar.

It just was......that was the style, the fashion, what we wore. Why would we have looked at it as anything other than normal?

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 I couldn't have said it better myself. The girls these days look like slappers! All fake tan and no knickers! Not to mention the fake boobies! What a wheeze!

  • @Oaklandgirlpitlover1 I agree. Even the casual wear is more presentable compared to today's.

  • Love this vid, watch it all the time. But someone...please tell me the point of Astrud walking up to the microphone, singing in front of it and moving away...when she clearly doesn't need it? Arrrrrgh.

  • 1:10: pervert look

  • @LeonardoFarroco admiring Astrud's beauty would hardly be considered perverted, i should think. i would be worried if he didn't.

  • @freeqwerqwer Man, you're tripping.. I am brazilian, and I know.. she really IS Astrud, the actual singer of this tune.. no doubt.

  • This is awesome quality, thanks for posting.

  • Soft music, hard wood. White shift, dark hair. Cool snow, warm Brazil.

  • Elle est vraiment très, très belle Astrud.

  • brazilian Patricia Arquette ?

  • Paula Prentiss!!

  • This actress is lip synching. I know who the singer is .

  • @freeqwerqwer; It sounds as if you are making a differenciation between "this actress" and "the singer." If so, be advised this IS Astrud -- and Stan on sax and Gary on vibes (I can't ID the drums and bass right off). Soak it up...these are the real deal (even if they are performing to a playback).

  • @MrNicespaces , can't you read? Who is refering to the musicians? I said the singer. She is NOT the real singer behind the song. This actress is just a cutie substitute. The real singer has long hair.

  • @freeqwerqwer; oh child, your apology is accepted in advance. Search the net for Astrud Gilberto...what you see is she.

  • @freeqwerqwer; the next words I expect to hear from you are, "OMG! EAR AND! EYE CANDY!"

  • @MrNicespaces I didn't think it was her either, I thought a heavier set woman snag this. They used to do that long ago, use a different person if they thought the singer wasn't good looking.

  • @borrow32; True enough about the subbing, just not here. I'm trying to think of who you might be thinking of, though. Flora Purim? She's gotten a little bigger with age, but was thinner back then. similar origins & sound. Dunno. YT'm both -- Brazilian jazz has some nice melodies, nice chord changes, nice spaces.

  • прелесть что такое !!!

  • прелесть скромности ! очень мило ! а главное в моей манере

  • I just love this song, my family were ballroom dancers and this was a very popular piece of music, thank you for uploading it.

  • i love this song

  • This video and music, and Astrud, shows us how great life can be. Positive, beautiful, classic.

  • Doctors should really prescribe this song for stress relief: "Listen at least once daily in relaxing environment, repeat if necessary. Do not listen while operating heavy machinery."

  • Wow---It's really snowy in Rio??

  • @gchip737 This clip was filmed in Sun Valley Idaho. But yes it does snow in Brazil, up in the mountains.

  • @gchip737 Not in Rio. But it does snow in my state sometimes tho, in a couple of towns, almost every winter for a few days.. Rio is in the middle of Brazil, you see.. And in the south, where I live, is much colder..

  • @LucasVonHoffmann This is an excerpt from a movie, long since forgotten. The setting is a ski resort, possibly in Colorado or Nevada.

  • @shuckinspa I know it's not in Brazil.. I was just explaining that in rio doesn't snow, but in my state does snow sometimes..

  • Ahhh!

  • @Quadkite I couldn't have said it better myself

  • Astrud is absolutely amazing! There needs to be more clips of her. She won't do interviews anymore and seems to stay out of the public eye. That's too bad because a lot of female singers could learn EVERYTHING from her. I'm in love!

  • Thanks! I saw it a couple months and couldn't remember the name.

  • Does anyone remember the name of the movie this scene is from?

  • @dontstop1 The name of the movie is Get Yourself a College Girl (1964). Also features performances by The Dave Clark 5 and the Animals. Also stars Mary Ann Mobley, Nancy Sinatra, and Chad Everett. TCM aired this movie last weekend.

  • @larry60mondello Thank you. I will watch for it.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • MODERN

  • Notice the smiles on the others when Stan imorovises on the sax. Thats humour in music I guess !

  • I like this song and Astrud Gilberto sings Bossa Nova very well, but if you look at her when she sings it, there's no emotion going on at all. Same thing when she was on a televison show. Nothing. Kind of Steppford wife emotions. Kind of scary in a way

  • Now that's class! Super sexy and making it all look easy. Astrud is the quintessential woman

  • Fantastic quality and great song! :D

  • Does The Girl from Ipanema exist ?

    Neville

  • @e11dsouza technically, it's one of those songs about an ideal beauty that is noticed. But I will tell you there is the story about the song - there is a story of the songwriter being at cafe in the Ipenema area in Rio, and there was the woman who walk past him each day and she was the completely beauty, very brathtaking. So he wrote about the girl. The funny thing is just years ago, that actual "Ipanema" woman named her shop "The Girl From Ipenema" and was brought to the court!

  • @e11dsouza

Yes, she must be around 65 years old now. Her name's Helo Pinheiro.

  • @filipegm Thanks, I knew there was a real a Girl from Ipanema !

  • i just met a beautiful girl Renata from Rio and she stole my heart and had to leave town. each night for 2 weeks i played this song at the bar and we held each other very tight. on the last night our eyes were a little wet when we had to say good bye.

i truely fell deeply in love with her.

  • Hypnotic and pure.

  • Wow, absolutely beatiful and classy.

  • I wonder if Aliens on some distant planet sit around a table while some hot 7 armed Alien chick sings anything like this kind of stuff.

We're lucky in a lot of ways aren't we?

  • As the camera pushes in to Astrud, she is obscuring her face with a copy of the sheet music for this song :D

  • Super Cool & Smooth!

  • how lovely! very funny is: she is singing from Ipanema and you'll see it's snowing outside ;-))

  • How cool is that?

  • I am sooooo happy that this video is back!

  • fuck copyright off!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

  • her singing is so perfect with the music, soft and clear. :]]

  • now this is quality, its like stepping back in time, fantastic stuff!

  • Yes, too bad they won't let us hear it on YouTube anymore!

  • is that Buddy Rich on drums !?!?

  • No, that's not Buddy on drums. Buddy would have a BR on his bass drum, plus this guy looks different than Buddy. Not sure who he is though.

  • Thats not Gilberto

  • That is Gilberto
