  • David Davis what a pompous opportunist, who just wants the camera's on his face 24/7.

  • just wanted to make a slight correction, you seem to have confused 'Labour' and 'New Labour' in your description ("Former minister for New Labour). Labour rebranded itself as New Labour under Tony Blair, part of his reforms that saw the party move towards the center-right. Tony Benn was a former minister, but did not serve in the cabinet during the New Labour era (although he did remain MP for Chesterfield until his retirement in 2001) You were however correct that he his a 'veteran left winger'

  • So does david davies think that when his former tory party take over the running of this country from the present lot that cameron is going to turn his back on the big brother state? bullshit, nothing will change its the same agenda whoever is in power.

  • @rodjames98

Just yesterday, the Nu-Labourite ID card system and integrated database was scrapped. A new bill on libel law is going to go through parliament. Detention is set to go back to its old level once the legistlation expires. I'd say a lot has changed and we're less than a month into the life of this government.

  • cont/ carried out upon the executioner, and then the families of that executioner would want the same act of ultimate revenge carried out on the next person and so on and so on.

If someone murdered a person dear to me I am sure I would feel like the murderer should suffer, that is part of human nature, but it is also part of human nature to attempt to not be slave to all of our basest animal instincts.

reason not emotion is called for at times

in 21st century we need to learn reason

  • in regards to the death penalty debate below I think J R Tolkien had it right when he wrote "many who live deserve death, and many who die deserve life, can you give it to them? no, then do not be too quick to deal out death as judgement."

capital punishment just continues the circle of death and revenge, it is purely an emotional reponse to a situation, it has no basis in REASON, should the innocent families of an executed person have the same right to see ultimate justice ..............

  • David davis is a wanker.

  • Your dad would ave been better off as a wanker then have you.... but shit happens ... everywhere....in your case ... wank shit.

  • New World Order shills

  • based on what?

  • @deadrebel2 You clown...

  • Why have you described Benn as a former minister for New Labour? He hates new labour! He owns a mug saying "old labour and prowd!" Get it right....

  • David Davis voted for the extension to 28 days without charge. He is in favour of the death penalty. He was one of the last MPs in favour of Section 28. He voted against lowering the gay age of consent in 2002. He voted against civil partnerships. And now he pretends to be a champion of civil liberties? He won his by-election and has now crept back to the Tory party as quietly as possible, now that his publicity stunt is over. I agree with the sentiments he expresses, but I don't think he does.

  • He's a social conservative, that's why he is against civil partnerships. He votes in favour of the death penalty because murderers and likewise pieces of scum deserve to pay the ultimate price for their crimes. And he voted for 28 days because the government were originally proposing 90 days, so 28 days was a justifiable concession, even though I still don't agree with it. He has stood up for those who are worried about the degradation of our hard fought liberties, and should be praised.

  • He's a "social conservative", which must be why he was also against repealing the repressive and homophobic Section 28 and equalising the age of consent for gay people. Murderers may deserve to die, but if they raped people, then they also deserve to be raped. Should that be Home Office policy? Capital punishment is barbaric and killing people is wrong. End of. And "social conservative"? In English, that roughly translates to-RIGHT-WING, HOMOPHOBIC, IGNORANT TORY BIGOT.

  • If we had not abolished the death penalty there would have been many people executed for crimes they could not have committed. Is this collateral damage?. How many people have had their convictions quashed due to dodgy evidence? . Guildford 4, Stefan Kisco etc...Furthermore the death penalty does not deter such crimes. Look at the US.

  • Where are you David?

  • Tony Benn was my MP when I lived in Chesterfield and was very good. I was arrested in Chesterfield on the 13th June 2006 (I lived at Milton Keynes then)and my DNA and fingerprints were taken. I was not charged with anything but was traumatised by the threat posed by the policeman holding a lancet (small needle) near my face when my hands were raised.

I emigrated to Eire on the 23rd September 2006 and prefer it here. Michael Stephen Nolan Dublin - Eire

  • Check out 'BIG BROTHER - THE BIG PICTURE' by David Icke on google videos - to find out the real agenda, and why Davis is now the false voice of the big brother movement - this was merely a P.R stunt to limit the boudries of debate on the real issues.

  • how would sparking a debate limit it?

David Icke was never gonna stark a debate on it?

He though he was god and believes reptilian aliens are the real global elite!

  • DD & TB. Modern heroes!

  • Our fundamental freedoms ride high above left and right wing politics, that's what these two men demonstrate.

In years to come when our freedoms have all but gone the history books will justify DD as heroic for making this stand aginst tyranny.

  • The Chartists and the Suffragettes died for our right to vote. And now this New Labour government isn't taking any notice of it

  • Good debate shame about the quality of the video

  • I'm a Conservative, but you can easily admire Tony Benn. I may not agree with his politics, but at least he has never compromised on his principles, unlike the Nu Labour brigade

  • David Davis and Tony Benn, both men have a tremendous amount of integrity which is sadly lacking in modern politics.

  • Tony Benn is the man George Galloway wishes he was.
