The earth can be clearly affected and we're the ones that have to live with the results. Sure, in the grand scheme of things, the earth is indifferent (even less than that) , but if what were doing will cause future human generations great misery, shouldn't we do something about it?

@28335 if we REALLY cared about our future generations we would have found out how to harness renewable energy, the war would have ended a LONG time ago, George Carlin would have been elected president, more money would be spent on our schools and health care, we would have realized that space exploration is completely pointless and takes billions of dollars a year, and maybe, just maybe, we would have realized that we're nothing and there's nothing important about us.

Trillions of dolars of debt and mountains of regulations about what the gov't says we can eat, drink, and use to llight our homes is a far greater threat than all the alleged environmental catastrophes we somehow think we're causing and we can change.

No matter what we do some life form will survive but if WE want to survive and keep our way of living we must be mor responsabile with our enviroment. I don't agree with everything that comes out of George Carlin's mouth, but his perspective on environmentalism is as sound scientifically and philosophically as any I've heard. I believe in good conservation practices, in clean water and clean air, but mankind did not kill the dinosaurs or cause the ice age. Climate change is unavoidable! The notion that controlling carbon emissions will control the climate like a thermostat is overly simplistic and ignorant in my opinion.
