Snake Eater happened before every other MGS. Even tho the characters resemble eachother really well, they're not the same persons. In MGS3 You play as Naked Snake. The genetic father of Solid Snake, Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake.

My first Encounter with the Sorrow in battle was traumatizing. I had killed a LOT of people by slitting their throats and shooting them in the crotch. I thought it was funny when I did it but when hundreds of limping guys with bleeding crotches are coming after you...

This part with The Sorrow was so scary for me. I was homealone with my younger brother who was playing on the computer while I was playing this part. In the game, I practically killed everyone so during the whole time just to get to The Sorrow, it was like ten minutes. All the spirits came after me and started screaming and stuff.
