Emerson brought all the ammo he could carry that day. Lake thought it was strange to bring all the yamahas but kept his mouth shut, mostly because Emerson was holding one like a gun.
Was a stipulation of joining with Emerson and Lake that your last name had to start with "P"? I guess Neil Peart was too busy with his other band to take the job.
If your thinking this is about homosexuality, I'd say your just thinking too much about smoking schlong, and you'll associate anything with it. Smoke away gayboy, but do us all a favour and fuck off.
pedal to the medal, blow by blow lol, like alot of 80's music it's about homosexuality. oh well. we all make up the meanings to ourselves anyway to pretend what it isn't because of the quality of other aspects of the song :)
@nonameavailableuser - Pedal to the metal refers to driving fast - one of Cozy Powell's hobbies, and it eventually killed him, sadly. Blow by blow is a term describing the announcing style at boxing matches.
The information age has changed music as we've known it. Instant access to video streams and social media has transformed the upcoming generations taste from the greatness of Yes, ELP, Queen, The Stones and The Who to Brittany Spears and Lady Gaga. A sad commentary on where we are. The focus has diverted from the audible to the visual. What I applaud the information age is the media, like You Tube, that allow common folk like me to keep alive the brilliance of the Rock era. Rock them all!
The man right at the beginning is my grandad, and the guy at 0:08 is my uncle. The video was filmed in Wapping pumping station and my grandad was the caretaker there.
Honestly, Emerson was never original in his melodies. He took liberally from many classical and jazz composers. His approach was pretty unique however. He's like Jeff Beck; the notes arent new and arent really his but the interpretation is something nobody else dared to come up with.
@balicca Exactly - it means it could go either way, and it's all up to fate. These days it's usually used when talking about a patient with critical injuries - "His condition is touch-and-go".
The eponymous album was underrated; I think Circus Magazine just about called Power Windows part II. The best stuff coming from ELP in whatever incarnation.
@coldfarted Agreed I saw them from front row in Grand Rapids Michigan in the mid 90's,.... and on Knife Edge Keith tips over his Hammond and stabs it with his Knife,.... he played them all at one point of another and since I've played drums since 1975 myself Carl Palmer just blew me away to watch and hear!!!! I saw Cozy with Rainbow, Sabbath and MSG group in the 80's and he totally rocked out,... 2 of my fav's!!!!
@coldfarted Ohhh Hell yeah,.... well I always knew Neil had Rush and Simon was a hired gun,... what about Portnoy???? Thanks for chattin',... fun to imagine isn't it.
Maybe someone could me out here, I have heard that song but not from ELP' it was I remember, an old english folk song sang by a woman but I can't remember the name of the singer or the title of this song. The melody Keith Emerson used for the song Touch and go wasn't an original melody composed by the band, but more like an adaptation of some other english folk song. If somebody was kind enough to share that information with me, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance... Dan
At the time,Carl Palmer didn't give a Shit about his former group (He was with Asia then) ,so,instead, they got Cozy Powell..Powell's now gone, and it's not nice to speak ill of the dead, guys,so,if you don;t want to explain to him when you meet him in the afterlife why you spoke so nasty, may I make a suggestion? SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Give me a thumbs up if you find these lyrics amusing: "They're leaving you nothing and nowhere to go, Just put you in the corner like an old banjo. The strings are breakin' but you can't say no" Fucking Shakespeare man!!
@gregoryjrocks : its Cozy Powell - yes its says EL Palmer but this is the original track with Powell. I have the album memorized. Most obvious look at pictures of Cozy and Carl. Cozy has black hair, Carl does not and Carl is a little prettier ... great song regardless ... the tour was incredible
I had tickets for the Emerson, Lake & Powell tour back in 1986 - the tix were for the show at the Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. However, the entire tour was canceled, and the band was never heard from again.

It's a great song, but I have to wonder... if Emerson has nine different keyboards here, and Powell has about twenty five different drums, why isn't Lake playing five basses at once?
E,L & Palmer and E,L & Powell are 2 different bands..., you should inform yourself before giving an opinion.
These guys tried to reform the original ELP in 1986, but Carl Palmer was unable to do so bc of contract duties with ASIA, so they decided to welcome aboard drummer legend Cozy Powell.
Remember a musicvideo from 1986 where everything went fast, cars people, skyline over an city nightime. Most of the video you see the view of a driver inside a car and it goes fast. I've search everywhere but can't find it. Always tought it was a music video of ELP's "LOVE BLIND", but im not sure. Somebody knows?
Reminds me of high school band trips, yes I was sporting the MacGruber doo. I didn't have the pull-out Blaupunkt, I was sporting a little boom box for my theme music. The good old days! I still have this cassette.
Yeah, man, this was back when bands knew how to ROCK! I hear that synthesizer kick in, and I just get all goosey, like I want to get in a soccer brawl or something!
@kcleft123 Oh no me too! I liked this song. And I understand where you come from. Being younger and hearing the awful quality of music nowdays, even the poppy 80's started to sound good. But now that you know about this band through this song, go ahead and listen their earlier works, far superior. Also you'll see what I'm talking about. Peace.
I saw ELP in concert in 1978.. It was my first concert... after probably over 100 concerts that is still the best one I ever saw. I had this song on cassette when it came out... I used to drive around jamming on it full blast... lol ELP kicks ass.
Cool guys, cool music. ELP, one of the best. Brain Salad Surgery, best album of all time. I can't get tired of this song. Seeing Powell as the drummer made me wonder what Palmer was up to, which eventually lead me to see where Steve Hackett and Steve Howe was. Anyways, I wish I had that many keyboards surrounding me like Emerson does.
@troublesomecorsair Just a quick note to tell you that I think Brain Salad Surgery is one of my favorite albums of all time. But it is amazing to me how many people seem to dispise it.
@Japjhuda Palmer no quiso participar en la reunion del grupo, y lo remplazo Cozy Powel, otro magistral baterista; solo en este album. Despues regreso. Esto es 1985.
I remember those MTV hours as an early teen back in the 80s (as a heavy metal creature) watching this great video getting played. I am no expert regarding EMP (Palmer & Powell), and know only a fistful of songs. This one, however, is awesome in all its simplicity. There´s a dark undertone in the ambience created by the keyboards and synths, like Emerson´s part at 2:13; also Cozy Powell added power to this song, his part at 2:47 kicks ass.
@zalewskimm NOT cheesy ... Why is something cheesy because it's successful? The first 2 Asia records were very popular - fact is John Wetton's vision, musically (Pop-rock songs with elements of prog, slipped in) was ahead of everybody, at the time, in 1981 - ALL those guys ... and Yes' 90215 and Big Generator, the ELPowell album, and the GTR album all followed in their wake ... So go timewarp yourself back to fucking '70s, if you somehow don't know this is good ~ it is.
While this incarnation was not a success musically in terms of public sales and awareness, I somehow got the recording and enjoyed it, I would like someone to host perhaps all the songs because they are deserving, promo or not! And Greg Lake's Nuclear Attack was a hit albeit minor one at the time I believe

Wow this is cheesy. Respect these guys as musicians but they tried to make a pop song ala Asia or whatever. Stick to the progressive music.
