  • great song

  • is that a mandolin i see?

  • @Oggitai It's called a bouzouki, it's from the same family but it's a little different.

  • I can't stand whaling one bit, but I love this song so hard that I can't stand not listening.

  • my name is Polina, and this is my theme song.

  • these guys sound so much better live than recorded (especially the live recordings)

  • Hahaha the WEEE! in the audience at 1:42 ish. I know how she feels.

  • Love this song!

  • hmmm.....if yall like this...gotta love the flogging molleys !!!!!!

  • LOVE THIS BAND!!!! LOVE this music! This is probably my fav. song by these guys.

  • LOVE watching them live... eight types of fabuliciousness...

  • All the comments on here arguing newfie heritage really befuddles me. 90% by chance are hardly from the east coast, let alone newfoundland, that i would bet my last doller on, where you get the nerves to start the argument will forever be beyond me without a doubt. Try enjoying the song and sing along, make better use of your short time here on earth.

  • HELP!

Looking for a Canadian flk song.. the story is about a man that puts his wife and child/children in the canoe to save them while Iroquois Indians are coming to get him..

Anybody, please?? I only know a translation in another language..

  • I love these guys

    1. there music is amazing

    2. there very talented

    3. THEY ARE GREAT LIVE!!!!!!

  • Is there nothing Sean can't do?

  • My name is Polina!! <33

  • They actually are really fantastic in their live videos, or whoever is recording them does a much better job than average. I never watch live videos for songs on youtube, except for from great big sea. I like Gideon Brown and this one best in their live videos.

  • @kyriaasimi I've been to see them in concert, they really are that good.

  • Knee hopping Fabulous.

  • great big sea is 1 of the bands that dont count on the studio to make them sound good

  • Haha my name;s Polina! <33

  • best Canadian band ever! <3

  • Great Big Sea is the best band in the world

  • seeing them in vanvouver tomorrow its goin to be sweet

  • These guys are Sooo much better live. The energy they have just can't come across on a regular album song. I recommend seeing GBS live to anyone. It's such a great time.

  • So THAT'S what they look like!

I think I like this better than the mastered track on the album . . .

  • Oh ya all their live stuff just blows the albums away... They are the best live performers I've ever seen.

  • I LOVE Great Big Sea!

    Greetings from the Netherlands! :D

  • In Scotland a group called the McCalmans recorded this in 1969 with Aly Bain guesting on fiddle BUT the called it "THE BALENA" this version comes close to the McCalmans version

  • gotta love banjo, bodhran, bouzouki and upright bass in one song.

  • Great Big Sea is not from the Maritimes, they are from Newfoundland. There is a difference.

  • @youratbastard The Maritimes includes Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland... I dont see what you attempted to imply?

  • @Astrotastic12 Acutallly, Newfoundland is part of the "Atlantic Provinces" not the Maritimes. Common mistake made by many. The 3 Maritime provinces have their own unique history, culture and part in forming Canada. Just like Newfoundland's unique history and culture as their own country and then joining Canada in 49. Apart from that though, Newfoundland is also seperated from the Maritimes by the Gulf of St. Lawrence physically.

  • @Astrotastic12 I am a Maritimer and Newfoundland is NOT part of the Maritimes! The culture may be similar but it is completely separate!

  • @NorseWarriorKing It's part of atlantic canada though.

  • I LOVE SEAN'S SINGING AND I LOVE HIS NEW HAIR NOW did u know he has a mohawk now?? (the one who is singing)

  • "there's not another whaler that sails the Arctic Sea"

    lol

  • It's "whaler" not "whale". It's a whalehunter ship. SOrry for being a smart ass :S

  • my fav. song

  • Bodhrans rule. (thats the drum he is playing!)

  • GBS is one of the best groups from the Maritimes

  • they are not from the maritimes, there from Newfoundland, not quite the same but close, i actually came from the same town as Sean McCann.. Carbonear!, even my last name is from there...Sutton

  • I was under the impression that McCann came from Gull Island.

  • In one video they say he's from Gull Isand, and in the next they say he's from Carbonear.

They also sometimes say they'e from Atlanta, Canada and other times they say they're from St. Johns.

Where ever they're from, they're totally awesome!

  • Can't argue with that!

  • there from ATLANTIC Canada and St.Johns is in Atlantic Canda. you tool

  • Sean's family are all Gull Islanders and he was reared up there, but he was born in Carbonear.

  • FTW carbonnear!! :D my family is from there, i am also cousins with Billy Sutton from the fables :)

  • hahahaha... Atlanta, Canada..... St Johns..... Atlantic Canada, St Johns

  • @faxdaddy

Atlantic Canada, the East Coast... and they started working in St. John's.

    ~Thanato

  • @faxdaddy Atlantic Canada includes Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland

  • Newfoundland is in Atlantic Canada. The Maritimes are made up NS, PEI and NB NL is not consdered a part of the Maritimes.

  • So... he can still like the music o.O

  • this is one of the only bands i know of that still sounds good while playing live

  • I was just thinking the same thing.

  • @sean600000 live is what traditional irish and newfoundland music is by nature

  • @sean600000 Your right and the other ones are Runrig and the Oysterband!

  • @irland1961 Runrig is the only one of the three I've seen live, but I'm hoping to see GBS eventually :) I adore Runrig!

  • @AtharAqua i`ve seen Runrig and GBS in 2007 in Drumnadrochid/Loch Ness, one of my best Days ever! The Oysterband comes at 9.12.this Year to Germany i`ll be there!

  • awesomly catchy

  • Wonderful...Joyful..

  • Guys who play the bodhran are very very very hot.

  • this song is fuckin wicked!

  • ahh the old polina , me and a couple of my friends sang this at the talent show for our senior buddies way back in sixth grade. Obviously our version was far superior to GBS's! haha

  • Love this band, loooooove this song!!

  • SONGS!!! not sons.

  • You bet! GBS sing some mean sailing sons!
