  • @shimojones Point taken.

  • Excellent song! Great rythym and melody. 6 + 7 is very unusual and appealing.

  • Sandy Denny's vocal on 'Liege & Lief" rocks so much harder.

  • Tam Lin the movie is at netflix!

  • AT LAST!!! people who love folk music and LOTR!!! perfect combenation!

  • This was a great video, I loved how the roles were reversed with Janet being Arwen (an elf) and Tamlin represented by Aragorn (a human lord) it had a nice irony to it that only added to the flavor of the song.

  • I rather this version now. I've heard the Sandy version over a million times now so I rather listen to by Steeleye Span and Pentangle to... But Fairport owns a special place in my heart! And the video fits with the tune to. When I had most of my mushroom days I used to listen to Fairport Convention 'cause their early records (up to Full House!?) are very mushroomie. ...and I take it, you northcountrygirlie will keep up making videos... otherwise my subscription would be in vain! :/

  • The heart is & shall evermore be,the most daunting of battlefields.

  • Why you put this scenes?who is interested in love scenes in lord of the rings?you made it look like a latinoamerican soap

  • Loved it until it changed key (to accommodate switch to female vocal range) Now it's switched back... Breaks the spell & spoils it for me - sorry. But I'll sneak it onto me Ipod just anyway in case I have a change of mind or ears...

  • Loved it until it changed key right on 2:00... (to accommodate switch to female vocal range) Now it's switched back again... Breaks the spell & spoils the whole thing for me, sorry. But I'll sneak it onto me Ipod just anayway in case I have a change of mind or ears...

  • These are the wrong kind of elves.

  • u did a very good job. ;)

  • I think simonmedrano is off his rocker..."But I believe you could do better???" What is he...a teacher who whacks his students on the knuckles with a ruler??? If he were a REAL man (which I doubt), he would apologize to you. Of course, to him, that would be a big task! Anyway, great job on the video and song. I liked how you used the 2007 FC version (which I never heard before) instead of the 1969 FC version (which I'm very familiar with). Both versions, as you said, have their own merits.

  • sux

  • @fruitman13 Fruits tend to say so.

  • this woulda been so bad ass to have him singing Tam Lin's part, and Sandy Denny singing Janet's

  • I think this version lacks the folkadelic energy of the original, which along with Sandy Denny's vioce realy sold it in the first place. I love the clip though, Kat Blanchet could be my queen any day!

  • better by the girl on the cd.. still a good song.. she had a haunting quality, that fit things better

  • You mean Sandy Denny!

  • I've seen Fairport in concert quite a few times over the last 20 years, albeit not in the last few, and have never heard them do Tam Lin. Matty Groves always, but never Tam Lin. I'd always assumed they put it to one side after Sandy died, so thank you for uploading.

  • I was surprised at how well the LOTR matched up with the song. I expected to dislike it, as I love both Tam Lin and LOTR, but I thought it did justice to both. Would have prefered the Fairport Convention rendition of the song but you can't have everything. Excellent job -- well done!

  • This is horrible. I paused at 0:48 and should have done so earlier. Listen to the original version; it's far better. Better yet, buy the Liege and Lief CD.

  • I tried watching this video to the audio of the old version, and it synched amazingly well. [I start the video 3 or 4 seconds after the file I have of the old audio. The line in the song about the 2 roses comes just as the two flowers appear on screen. The audio ends a bit early, giving Fairy Queen Cate a little cool-down time.]

  • Gandalf drinks cider?

  • Excellent version.

I don't dislike the video, and I know it's not so easy to make one, and it's a very time-consuming task. But I want to believe you could do better.

    I also like this version.

I have the Fairport Convention's Liege & Lief album, and I really love both versions. They are differents, this one of course has a lot more presence, but think the other was recorded almost 40 years ago.

  • "But I want to believe you could do better."

That's what my teachers always used to say!

  • @simonmedrano Sorry I can't imagine anyone singing that but Sandy Denny, in Fairport. (I do like many other non-Fairport versions.)

BTW Sandy got it from Anne Briggs.

  • As mysterious as the fact that there is no footage of Sandy singing Tam Lin...this is an interesting take on Tam Lin!!

  • This video was put to the music perfectly! I love it!!!

  • as fast as go can she... so amazingly lovely! I actually love this version too.

  • I love both versions - each has its own merits and a different feel. This one is more exciting, Sandy's is gentler, more mysterious maybe.

  • Wow, my favorite ballad, and I've always anted to listen to the FC version. Must admit I don't like this song, but the video is SO COOL! It fits perfectly! Well done!

  • The copy I have from Fairport has a woman singing. It sounds a lot better than this.

  • that woman is Sandy Denny. She died very young so Fairport Convention lost a great singer.

  • Listen to the one with Sandy singing. The album is Liege and Lief.

  • Outstanding! And well done! Thank You Good Lady for posting, Will

  • P.S. I really like this video, it makes me see the Tam Lin story in a very interesting light! And I like your choice of clips from LotR (though I admit I started giggling when I saw Galadriel as the Faery Queen!)

  • Yeah ... and Elrond is wearing a corset - apparently middle aged spread is a problem even for elves...

  • Who sings this version?

  • Simon Nicol and Chris Leslie alternately.

  • Dunno but doesn't it sound like Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)?

  • Excellent, a well fitted version to Sandy's

Liege and Lief version and a nice video as well.

    Never heard this one.

    Tks and greets.

  • A great hat-trick!! Well done.
