Anyone know...What determines how far apart the frets will be from each other? My 24 fret has closer frets to each other, while my 22 fret has frets further apart from each other. This question has EVERYONE stumped. Guitar center couldnt even answer it.
After its all dry for a day or not even, NO. Not one bit of black on my fingers. If it gets on the binding just wipe it of quick, and dont do it the way hastyberfart did it which was to tape up all the binding.Because if you do that then you cant see if any of it leaked under the tape and then you cant wipe it off. Believe me it wount stain the fretmarkers or the binding.
i just did mine using the minwax container not the marker.. it did get darker but not as much as urs.. and i still have those stupid white lines that appear on the rosewood. Any tips? how did u manage to make it that dark?
Its funny you ask cause I was just asking myself the same thing yesterday!! I think I just wound up dark piece of rosewood. But what you should do is get the marker it has to be the marker. And you have to get into those little crevises in the wood and do it about 2 or 3 times. Thanks for watchind and Rock on!!!!
Thank you. Ya the camera was like in the "sweet spot" hence the pretty nice tonal balance. Its all 5.1 will tight heavy bass, but what else would you expect from a system that only play METAL!!!. My sub is right under my desk so two 8" woofers sound like two 12" drivers running in 4 ohm. LOL.Thanks for noticing also!!!!
After staining the fretboard is it ok to later apply conditioning oil such as bore oil or linseed oil? Would the stain affect the quality, tone or durability of the wood in anyway?
The stain itself has oil in it already. so I would wait a day to use Linseed oil. But staining will NOT effect the quality, tone or durability of the wood.
I'm surprised at all the videos with people shortcutting this process. C'mon people do it right.
1. take off the strings! 2. mask the sides of the neck. 3. clean the fretboard properly. 4. use a product made for this like the Stew Mac oil dye. 5. use 2 coats for a nice dark black. 6. Let dry for about a day, buff with a dry cloth and restring.
Hey, my fretboard has never looked better. There is nother wrong with the way I did it. Im not a perfectionist. All though my Jackson IS perfect. I finally got her to where I really enjoy playing her. The stain I used I did not need to mask anything because it wipes right off of the type of binding I have wich is pretty much plastic. I do it once in a while and it looks great.
@TazorShoTz Sure why not dude. Try it. You got nothing to lose except it wears of in about a few months. But then just redo it. I fuckin love working on my girl.No matter what it is. Thanks for watching and Rock on!!!!!!!!
@ww2corsair Remember you HAVE to follow ALL the steps in this video. Drying out the wood is so important!!!!!!!!!!! Then the stain. Leave on till' it soaks in really good. Then just wipe off. It is very important to go with the grain of the wood when applying and removing. When you are putting the stain on you are hydrating the wood back . And then a couple of hours after put some lemon oil on. Are you sure your using Ebony color? Well ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@brib333 sadly its not working... i followed all the instruction, after i applied the 01 dunlop fretboard spray i let it completely air dry, then i applied the stain, and wiped it off after about half an hour or so... once i wiped it off it made it seem as if ALL the dye came off and just got "slightly" darker but all in all its still pretty much the rosewood color. i dont know why maybe because you did it a ton of times before it actualy just became black.
@brib333 Lemoil is just mineral spirits and will re-dry the wood taking out the oils you are trying to put in. I suggest you never use Lemoil on the fretboard. Its ok for the body and it make it smell clean.
NO!! Get EBONY its called. Some other brands may call it BLACK but you want to get as dark as you can. Really, it works great. Just dry out your fretbord with the cleaner and apply the stain and leave it on till the fretboard soaks it up good. Then wipe with a VERY soft cloth. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you really want it VERY black. Just put a coat on everyday for like a week or alittle less. But it has to be the marker. Later Rock on!!!!!!
