You'd like to think so, but something Mal states during the pilot episode 'Serenity' has me thinking it isn't that simple. I think there's some evidence backing my arguement in the episode 'Out of Gas'. I beleive that Mal is stuck fighting in Serenity Valley for the rest of his life. My theory is that was the reason for buying the Firefly in the first place, to forever remain out of the reach of the Alliance.
