Price is eventually going to increase for all aircrafts. Sukhoi 30 is a powerful machine and country's security depends on it. Indian government and IAF will be more than happy to buy more su30s regardless of price. I think the new order would come with AESA and upgraded avionics.

IAF is planning to have 45 squadrons in 10 to 15 yrs time.

Well, it is not easy to do business with Americans. They want India to sign agreements which can never be accepted by India. It is one of the reasons why India doesn't want to go beyond transport planes from the US.

Coming to Stealth fighters - India already funding a project called FGFA (stealth fighter) with Russia and also working on an indigenous stealth fighter named Advanced medium combat aircraft (AMCA) with focus on twin indigenous engines (Kaveri)

defense minister said in perliament in june 2009 that the iaf had 98 su30s at that time.since then atleast around 40 jets must have been added[12 in remaining of 2009 + 28 in 2010]. that means we must have ~140 in jan2011?

Sir, its MiG-35, not Sukhoi. I won't put my money on F-16, coz its a fairly old platform & we need a fighter for the next 30 years. I guess anyone from Typhoon, Rafale or Gripen would be the eventual winner. I admire MiG-35 too but then we already have many MKIs on order & after tht PAK FA is there. F22 falls under different class !! There is no question of comparison between su 30 and F22.

How about comparing PAK-FA stealth fighter with F22?

PAK-FA prototypes will be revealed soon.

Russia has some long range BVR missiles like KS-172 (400 km) anti-awacs missile. US does not have that. Su 30 with AESA radar and BraHmos cruise missile, KS-172 BVR can cause enough destruction.

su 30 is best in its class !! F 22 radar cross section is too small hard to detect. Only stealth can beat stealth.

There are so many "stories" out about the China Lake encounter that u r referring to. Ive read that it never happened & that no miltary release has been issued that the event took place. I also read that the F22 was carrying external fuel tanks, which made it lose its stealth ability. I've also read that the F22 had its transmiter on as it was not a military exercise & ground control needs to track it . We're never really going to know until the 2 fighters meet in an offical DACT exercise.

Generally I'd agree, but the R-77s your su-30s carry can be equipped with an IR seeker, which when used in friendly airspace (enough connected radars to triangulate the emissions from the F-22's radar) is capable of shooting down a raptor from 100km+. IRST can pick them up at close to 40km too but by then you've probably eaten an aim120. F-22s are supremely capable but not invincible :p

@kashsoldier I'm gunna have to disagree with you there. What the MKI lacks in stealth it makes up for in manoeuvrability. In an actual fight, the F-22 would undoubtedly spot the MKI first, however, the F22s next move would be a problem as firing an AIM-120D would alert the MKI and the MKI could dodge a 120. The MKI then could move in and a close quarters dog fight would ensue. On the other hand, the F22 could risk being seen and come in close and fire an AIM-9X, the MKI would still have a chance

@satbirsinghrajpal yes thats correct indian involvement in SU30MKi put it into SU35 class (SU 30 MKi is 95% what SU35 is) this same will happen with FGFA. i have read a lot about it recently, and my studies says that SU30 MKi is second none to F-22 (F-35, MIG-35, SU-35, PAK FA are not final product yet) SU30 MKi jet exhaust nozzle move in somewhat oblique to vertical which makes it 2.5D TVC fighter, even F-22 is just 2D TVC.

Holy shite! I just went through wikipedia, Su 30MKI's range is 8000Km and travels at speeds of Mach 2.35. It has like 24 different types of missiles, pods and armaments and thrust vectoring. This is probably the only jet in the world that could take down an F22.

The Soviets may have sent submarinesto counter the aircraft carrier group that the Americans sent there during the &1 war. The Soviets even let India pay for our weapons purchases by barter or even in Rupee at times, because of the Cold War situation. Things have changed now. We pay in hard currency. It is a business relationship, driven by Russia's financial & our defence needs.

India has a strong business relationship with russia. Let us be honest here. India has got lot of money now and russia got the technology. Lets do it then. Russians don't mind giving india the best technology. Look at united states-eg F22s.Not even british can get F22s. After 30 long years india is going to get american nuclear technology with lot of restrictions!! It is relatively easy to deal with russians than americans!!

Exactly what I was saying - it is a business relationship, not a true friend relationship. The strategic needs of the former Soviet Union may have caused them to give us more help in the past, but things have changed now. We must not fool ourselves like we did in the case of China in the 1950s.

India should have strong relationship with both US and Russia. India likes to stay neutral. Technology transfer only happens with russia!! America doesn't allow that!! America is going to provide india with nuclear fuel. 126 figherjet deal should go to both russia and US. India is a unique country with unique needs!!

xmtz, racism is prevalent all over Europe. Though what u say is partially true, i Don't entirely agree on that. There is a right wing party in Russia who promotes racism, but in general there is the same amount of racism as it is in UK, Germany and anywhere. If they were allies of convenience, they would have not helped during the times when India was very week after British Independence.
