  • Betty, I made the yeast rolls and they were fantastic buttery and delicious. They were a hit and everyone loved them.I have two left that I froze I will warm them and eat with butter tonight. I followed the recipe and everything you said worked. Although I had to cut on my oven and sit the pan nearby to get the rolls to rise mine took 2 1/2 hrs I used the dough hook on my kitchen aid too. My house is not very warm so I had to improvise. Thank you. from a California Girl needing lots of help.

  • Hi Betty! I just made this and it was amazing! It was so soft and fluffy!! Thank you!!

  • Hi Betty I bought everything and I will make these for Christmas in the morning. I am very excited. I had to see the video again to refresh my memory on the process. I know you are away and I am wishing you and your family a blessed Christmas and an awesome New Year. always Shawn

  • @seanviv2 Hi Shawn,

I hope your dinner rolls come out great! Merry Christmas!

    --Betty :)

  • thanks betty I made these rolls for thanksgiving they are amazing I will also make them this year for x-mas xoxoox

  • Oh, Betty!! I just got a stand mixer, and this is the first recipe that I tried with it. They are PHENOMENAL!!! I will definitely make these again and again. Kudos to your sweet mom for doing them by hand! Thank you so much for sharing this special recipe with us. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • thanks betty I want to try your moms rolls for thanksgiving and I make them the day before can I let them rise over night in the fridge thanks so much again

  • Hey Betty, love the show and recipes! You remind me of being home! I grew up in Louisville but now live in Denver. So my question pertains to making these awesome rolls in the Mile High City. Are there any alterations to the recipe when making them? Baking time? Measurements with the dry ingredients? Thanks!

  • @ljraydenlou Yeast, for some reason, isn’t as problematic as other leavening agents. Unless your experience proves otherwise, just use the same amount of yeast as usual. As for sugar, something about the air pressure apparently concentrates it. Reduce it by 1 tablespoon per cup required at 3,000 feet–more for higher altitudes. Also, increase all liquids in your recipe 1 to 2 tablespoons at 3,000 feet–more for higher altitudes. Bake as usual, keeping an eye on your baked goods.

  • @bettyskitchen im going to rob your left overs from dinner might be the best dinner i ever have

  • O.K. I'm making these for my Christmas dinner! Moms always have the best recipes! These look great.

  • Thank you for your awesome videos I've tried several of your recipes and have yet to be disappointed.I haven't tried this recipe yet and I have a question.I've tried many yeast roll recipes over the years and have not found any that have that nice, strong "Yeast" flavor to them.Any ideas on how to bring that flavor out in the rolls?Any help is appreciated.Keep up the good work.

  • @TelegramSam59 The rolls just need to rise properly. That means there needs to be enough sugar in the recipe for the yeast to feed off of. If they are not rising well, give them more time, making sure they are in a slightly warm place, free of drafts.

    --Betty :)

  • OMG Betty you always make food look so good.... YUMMMMMMMM I am making these for Thanksgiving

  • @seanviv2 That's great! I hope you enjoy the rolls!

    --Betty :)

  • she reminds me of dolly parton... making yummy food.

  • @albemar78 I don't know if I agree with that, but I like Dolly Parton, so thanks for the comment!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen I'm a fan of hers, and she's pretty. They need you on food network :-)

  • @albemar78 Thanks for your sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • What are dinner rolls? I'm from Singapore and I don't come across this term often.

  • @champions2468 They are generally yeast bread rolls--like biscuits, only with yeast, some sugar, and egg added.

    --Betty :)

  • my dinner rolls were kinda burnt on the bottom and I don't know why. I only baked them for 12 min. help!!

  • @lemontea128 You need to bake them at a lower temperature. Ovens vary, and yours may bake differently from mine.

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen oohhh...thank you. I'm gonna try again and hope it will be just as good as yours. :o)

  • @lemontea128 I hope it comes out great!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty,

Ended up using your fantastic dinner roll recipe to make Pigs in a Blanket. Made some hot honey mustard for dipping. They turned out very well. Once this heatwave is passed will be experimenting with the dough for donuts. What a scorcher. Have a blessed day.

  • @KissHope That sounds like a great idea for pigs in a blanket! I will have to try that! Thanks for the tip! Take care, Hope.

    --Betty :)

  • Day 2 and another day of baking your Mom's dinner rolls...lol Had company today and they finished off what was left from yesterday! Baked off 6 today making 3 twist knots and 3 reg round. Froze the rest of the dough to see if I can make donuts with deep frying. The rolls are little pillows of airy softness. This is now my go to recipe after trying several others. Btw they went great with the pork chops and gravy. To anyone on the fence about making JUST DO IT! lol

  • @KissHope Your whole comment sounded delicious! I'm a yeast roll lover, and the way you are making and serving them sounds yummy!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen

I am as well a yeast roll lover, the main reason it never paid for me to eat at Golden Corral, as I filled up on rolls. I saw that someone else tried this as regular white bread, probably going to do that next time and try the dough enhancer I spoke of. Will need to wait a few days and load up on veggies and fruit with all the bread that I've eaten. Watched a Chinese donut recipe earlier and looks to be a similiar dough. Thanks again for sharing Betty.

  • @KissHope Thanks for your lovely comment, Hope. Have a terrific day!

    --Betty :)

  • Hello Betty,

They don't look that good on Food Network! I am off to make this now, but first please explain how cutting round and they came out square. It's something to do with mathmatics probably so over my head...lol Have a very grand 4th of July.

    Hope

  • @KissHope Hi Hope, Thanks for the nice comment! The reason the rolls are "square" is that I placed them very close together (which is the way they rise best). If I had placed them farther apart, they would maintained their circular shape, but would flatten out, since they would have no support from neighboring rolls. Nice question!

    --Betty :)

  • @bettyskitchen

    Hi Betty,

The dinner rolls were awesome, I loved all four! The rest of dinner for the most part went into the fridge, fighting the temptation now at 11:30 p.m. to have one with honey butter. These will go perfectly with smothered pork chops in caramelized onion gravy. I didn't freeze any as I know they won't last that long. Thank you so much for sharing a part of your family history and a wonderful recipe.

  • @KissHope I am glad that you like the dinner rolls! They will be great with the pork chops in caramelized onion gravy! Have a beautiful day, Hope!

    --Betty :)

  • The kids love them thanks Betty

  • @coachgal23 Thanks for your wonderful comment! I appreciate it so much!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi again Betty. I just wanted to let you know that I used your recipe and made this into two loaves of bread. It is the best bread I've ever had! Thank you so much for your hard work.

  • @godnotfound Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • Hi Betty! I love your videos. Can I make this into a loaf of bread or will that not work?

  • @godnotfound Thanks for your compliment! Yes, after it is kneaded, just put it into a greased loaf pan, until the pan is about half full. You may have some left over, but it needs to double in bulk before you bake it. It will be delicious as a loaf!

    --Betty :)

  • thank you so much for sharing this special recipe with us and I am going to be honored to serve this to my family as part of our Easter tradition.. God Bless.

  • @vida130 Thanks for your sweet comment! I really appreciate it! I hope you enjoy the rolls!

    --Betty :)

  • Betty just a quick question I can't use tap water to get the hot water for cooking it has an acrid taste. Can I use tepid bottled water I warmed on the stove? thank you. I am asking for your cookbook for my upcoming birthday.Thank you Shawn

  • @seanviv2 Hi Shawn, yes just use some bottled water that you have heated. It should be just lukewarm--about 105 to 110 degrees (F).

  • Great recipe Betty. I will try this one. Where do you put your rolls to rise? On top of or near the cooktop or where? I usually do laundry while baking rolls and put the rolls to rise on the dryer while my clothes are drying. Thanks for your great southern recipes. Grandma Cheap Cheap

  • @grandmacheapcheap Hi! I'm glad you liked the look of these rolls. We really love them. When I made those rolls I had them on the kitchen counter where there was a heating vent on the floor below (and it was pretty cold outside). The dryer idea is great--works anytime!

    --Betty :)

  • Thanks for sharing this special family recipe!

  • @kbobfresh you are very welcome!

    --Betty :)

  • ha, am baidy! welcum de baidy's kitchin.

    hi betty :D

  • Betty your recipes are always great. I see you have a Pampered Chef Batter Bowl! I love mine and use it all the time. Another kitchen gadget I cant live without is my Presto Salad Shooter. I love that thing!

  • @chazoh27 Pampered Chef is the greatest!

    --Betty :)

  • I am trying this recipe before Easter hopeful it turns out right it is rising now

  • @MistressDivine I hope it comes out great! It's a recipe that you have to be patient with!

    --Betty :)

  • Homemade bread intimidates me, so i've never made it, but watching your video gives me the confidence to try. Not until I get me one of those standing mixers, though... i don't think i'm strong enough to do it by hand! lol. Thanks Betty... and Rick! =)

  • @IanzGurrl I hope you try making the rolls, but it is a big job if you do it by hand!

    --Betty :)

  • Those are the best looking homemade dinner rolls I have ever seen! :)

  • @myturn808 Thanks for your nice comment! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • I love your channel but, I am dying to know how do you stay so trim eating all those carbs?

  • @anastayjah715 I eat anything I want, but I am very conscientious about eating only a small portion of anything with lots of calories. I mainly have egg whites for breakfast, tuna for lunch, and fruits and vegetables throughout the daily--rarely bread, potatoes, noodles, rice, etc.

    --Betty :)

  • Yumm, I love yeast rolls!! I bet your whole kitchen smelled wonderful! Thank you soo much for this recipe, Betty! Love 'n Hugs from Angie

    --Betty :)

  • Thank you for sharing you Mamma's recipe! I am wondering if you have any whole wheat recipes? Also, I know you are into fitness and I had a question.... late night snacking is a no no around here, but there are times I want to have something to nibble on whether salty or sweet. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

  • @charyd76 We always snack on popcorn. You can get a variety that is only 15 calories per popped cup. You may add flavorings, so it's really a treat! (I have a video on popcorn in bettyskitchen.)

    --Betty :)

  • I love bread too; this looks yummy.

  • hot water and direct contact with salt it kill yeast

  • hot water and direct contact with salt it kill yeat

  • Betty I love your food can you please make strawberry shortcake because my uncle wanted me to make it for him but I wanted you to show me how because I love your food so much :)

  • @youlovemou I have some individual strawberry shortcakes in bettyskitchen; I will try to get a full-sized one done when fresh strawberries are easier to find where I live.

    --Betty :).

  • As always, I love your plates that you use to display your food!

The way you serve the bread reminds me of the way the Cruise ship serves the bread makes me think of vacation again :)

And I think Carter is such a smart kid...a lot of kids these days don't know much about food what's what and it seems Carter knows a lot about food :)

  • Will be trying this. Thank you so much Betty!

  • I had 2 come back & watch this video again cuz these rolls look delicious & I so want 2 try this so I am trying to make sure that I know exactly what 2 do when I try it lol

  • @1970sarteaga I hope you enjoy the rolls! Thanks for the sweet comment!

    --Betty :)

  • These look great Betty, thanks for sharing this recipe. I tried your Cheese Fry Hamburger casserole. My grand kids were here, and they LOVED it. It was my first try ay making my own cheese sauce, I was a little nervous, lol, but it turned out great! I posted it to my my Facebook page too. :)

  • @whitecrow255 Thanks for your wonderful feedback! I really appreciate it!

    --Betty :)

  • That look so wonderful!! I will try this for my family. My Das loves yeast breads.

  • Carter loves bread! That's cute.

  • These look delicious, Betty. I've never tried making rolls with yeast; guess I've always figured they'd be too difficult or wouldn't turn out! But I'm going to give these a try. Thanks much. By the way, I always like the way you dress; matter of fact, I asked you where you shop because I liked your outfits and tops. Cute!

  • Thanks, Betty! Guess what I am having for Easter!

I didn't get to read the nasty comment, Betty. We know you are not a spring chicken anymore, but you sure look like one. I would say we have a very jealous commenter here. Shoot! I'm jealous too! You look great and if I had your figure and looks I would dress just like you.

  • wow i got a little scared when you punched that dough betty!

no just kidding haha, another GREAT recipe, your the best!

  • These look super yummy!

  • I think I will probably try this! I have been somewhat of a coward when it comes to making any kind of yeast bread. You made it look like I could do this - maybe : ] thank you so much for all of your hard work!

  • good heavens...does betty pay all of u to be her spokespersons?...if betty has something to say about the negative comments she's receiving ...i'm sure u would agree she seems intelligent enough to say it herself....sheesh.....btw,great vid,betty...

  • Thank you Betty! (I'll have to try that.) By the way you look beautiful as always!

    -Ann

  • thanks for sharing the recipe! LOVE watching all your posts!!

  • Omg I love yeast rolls!!! I'm pretty lazy so I probably won't make them, but they look so good that I'll need to motivate myself to!!! I definitely see where you got your cooking expertise from, your mother must've been an AMAZING cook to have such a delicious recipe!!! I'm sure she's proud to see what an amazing cook you've become :D

  • ..If u think it is unhealthy, then go find a new, awesome, loving, and beautiful cook like betty. she is wonderful and i hope we can just all enjoy her recipes. cheers.

  • first of all, i dont believe betty is here to dress up fashionably to impress anyone here because she is happily married to rick. second, she is here to teach us and share her cooking for us to enjoy. third, leaving a rude comment on here commenting on her appearance or how 'fattening' or 'unhealthy' her recipes are is rude. im pretty sure in every one of her videos she talks about how she adjusts the recipe to what it needs, to make it taste the best. she does adjust to lowfat or nonfat.

  • I luv yeast dinner rolls. However I have never been too good at working with yeast lol I think my problem is getting the hot water about the right temp without killing off the yeast. Maybe I will try following ur recipe & directions tho & see how it turns out. Hopefully well! Looks good! :)

  • yeahhhh..too long,, haha XD

  • Mrs. Betty, you have really outdone yourself with this one! This is a fabulous recipe. Thanks for posting!!

  • These look absolutely deeeelicious Betty! I'm going to give them a go tomorrow, and hopefully mine will turn out at least half as scrumptious looking as yours! x

  • betty knows how to dress to impress ;)

  • Oh my, those look so yummy. I am gonna make these for my Easter dinner this year! Thank you.

  • Those rolls look so great. I love homemade rolls. I will have to make these soon.

  • I read someplace else that salt kills the yeast. When do you add salt to make sure yeast works OK ?

  • Betty now has to deal with beauty gurus hating on her. Girls picking on other girls never ends lol

  • These look absolutely wonderful, thank you! Betty, when they are in the rising process, is there anywhere you recommend to place them so that they can double faster? I've heard to switch the oven onto low for a bit, then when ready for rising, turn it off and let them sit in the warm oven for a bit. What do u think?

  • I love love love this woman!

  • Every Youtuber has trolls. Ignore them b/c they make those ghastly comments for attention. I love you Betty & honestly I'd rock what you wear & I'm only 22! LOL

  • Very very nice madame. You re family is most blessed.

  • I god.. these look amazing <3

  • Betty is a grandmother?!

    WOW!

  • those look like the super good expensive ones you buy at the store!!! yummy!!! : ) by the way if you have ever tried the hawaiian rolls at the store those are my favorite and i was wondering if you knew of a way to recreate those. THanks for sharing

  • how many grams has 1 package of active dry yeast?

  • @maiia217 Those packages have 1/4 ounce, or 7 grams.

    --Betty :)

  • What is going on with the haters on Betty's page? Anyone who judges Betty in a negative way MUST NOT have watched her from the beginning. She is awesome and if you don't like what she does or wears...don't watch her. She has tons of fans and tons of support.! Don't hate on Betty!!!!!!

  • @notnormalbuzz Dear Friend, my comment was NOT even a critique...I love Betty, and I'm a big fan. The facts are, there is a LOT of fat and white flour in this recipe, (not good for us), and I was simply asking Ms. Betty if her diet regularly contained foodstuff such as these yeast rolls. She does seem very fit, and her figure is enviable.

BTW...healthy, friendly critisism is NOT hate. So now, smooth those feathers, no hater here...

  • thats really awesome. i love it.. you look gorgeous btw :)~

  • @NenaLovesMakeup Bitch :)

  • Love your videos, Betty ! When I am feeling overwhelmed I love watching your videos, learning new techniques, and planning for future meals and events. This recipe is especially mouth-watering, but all the fat, and that in combination with the white flour is so unhealthy ! With your lovely figure I find it hard to believe you really eat such as this...just saying.

  • @Fairaday1 betty is awesome and you must not follow her or hear anything. she exercise and even has said she eats what she cooks and she is careful on her diet. why are you hating on her? you need to go look at ALL her videos before you judge her.

  • @Fairaday1 if you love bettys videos so much then how come your comment does not reflect that? over her posts betty has commented that she and rick are quite health concerned, even in a early vid she showed us her excise regime. so clearly fairaday you can't put 2 and 2 together, betty said at the start of the vid she is making these for easter. have you heard of a treat, once off or moderation. and i'm sure these rolls are better than the mcdonalds you eat which is full of crap!

  • Love you Betty!!

  • Love your videos but you need to learn to dress up better. That black turtle neck and that red top its not happening sorry.

  • @NenaLovesMakeup

Wow, can you be any more rude?!

Thanks for sharing Betty! I'll try them out soon.

  • @NenaLovesMakeup wow your inconsiderate.

  • @NenaLovesMakeup it's a cookery channel, not a fashion channel.

  • @NenaLovesMakeup Her clothing doesnt affect her cooking. lols

  • @NenaLovesMakeup ur manners are not happening srry

  • @NenaLovesMakeup If you don't like what Betty wears, don't watch her shows. What a mean comment! I love your outfits, Betty, and your recipes and show is awesome! WE love you Betty!!!!!!!!!

  • @stellaluna4u2 Betty = AWESOME

  • @NenaLovesMakeup Not only are you rude, you clearly know nothing of fashion. If you even have the slightest interest or knowledge about fashion, you would know that black and red are two colors that go perfect together!

Betty is a beautiful woman and I don't think I am the only one to think that! :)

  • @NenaLovesMakeup There's not enough clothes in the world to "dress up" your manners!

  • @NenaLovesMakeup sorry is this a fashion channel or a cooking channel?? clearly you are one these people who think to highly of themselves. grow up.

  • @NenaLovesMakeup You need to learn to keep your mouth shut. It's not happening, sorry.

  • @NenaLovesMakeup I don't want to be as harsh as everyone else, but you really should try to be less heavy handed with your words :[ I'm sure you're just trying to help, but maybe next time try to say it in a nicer way like "I don't mean to be rude Betty, but I don't think that outfit really suits you." then give her like maybe a tip or something :D Please try to be nicer with your wording next time :]

  • @NenaLovesMakeup That was rude she dresses the way she wants to dress and and a black turtle and red top do go so learn your colors before you start acting rude to Betty. Besides what you like and others like are different so back of jerk!

  • @NenaLovesMakeup you keep loving make up as u name says... stop watching cooking channels....

  • ILL take a scrappy roll any day ... they all looked great , pass the butter please,,,!!!

  • drooling :P

  • Thanx Betty !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice rolls look good

  • my dad always wanted fresh homemade bread of any sort with any kind of hearty homecooked meal too!

*i miss you so much oggy doggy daddy, BUT...the memory of you teaching me how to cook will live on forever more*

  • strong punch Betty

  • I loooooove fresh dinner rolls. Especially with a nice stew. Mmmm.

  • Really it is a very long video.

Will watch all the video when i am ready to cook it. :)
