As someone that first started longboarding in Ontario then moved to Vancouver I'm going to say Longboarding is way better when you have hills. Cruising around with friends and doing style tricks is fun but it never gives the adrenalin rush that bombing a hill does. Sliding would be pretty limited on flat land too.
@Bulldog2846 Is there a longboarding scene in NYC? It would be really intense with all the traffic. I've known 2 kids that have died due to traffic plus many serious injuries.
I always thought NYC would be just street skating. I suck at street and in my mid 30's I'm not going to get better.
@BCJR13 the scene has blown up here in the past few years. Look up the Broadway Bomb, we have 300 longboarders racing thru an unsanctioned 8.5 mile stretch that goes right thru Times Square and ends at the southern tip of Manhattan all while running red lights and dodging cabbies. There's also the Central Park race which is going down this Saturday where we have about 200 longboarders come out and skate around a 6.5 mile loop of crazy hills. We also have huge skates every weekend with 20-50 ppl.

The web site (coastlongbaordingDOTcom) was a good way for us to meet and share ideas, organize cruises that sort of shit. Start one up and make your scene better.
