The Alt is from a refrigrated truck (210amp) and has the clutch pulley which need's to be spaced about 10mm out, the stock one on the engine (vr6 2.8) is only 120amp and has a soild pulley.. Which is slightly larger in size too... I will try a alt and starter refurb shop to see if they have the tool , thanks anyway
Is there any to remove the pulley with out this kit .. As the pulley is the wrong offset for my engine and i want to swap it for a soild pulley.. What if i hold the pulley tightly and try to undo it? Local garages dont have the tool nor do i want to buy it as i will only use it once
@DeafeningSounds Sorry, no way to remove this type of pulley without the tool. You may want to keep this style pulley if at all possible because using a solid pulley may cause a lot of excess shaking and tensioner wear. Good Luck.
Just fixed a Vauxhall Corsa 1.3cdti with this tool. On the car. You need to be strong, but it is do-able. Access with a second spanner is a problem, but a great tool.
Or if you want to do it with a little more "panache"; instead of using a vice you could just use a box end wrench to hold the spline tool. It's a lot easier. This can even be done in the car, and you don't even have to remove the alternator from the car, if all you are changing is the clutched pulley (also, no vice required).
@chippendalesnewest Good point. This tool can be used in the car - with the alternator secure in the car it sometimes is even easier to work with.
Seems like Dodge Calibers are the latest vehicles with failing clutch type pulleys - they make noise like the alternator is going to lock up at any moment!
