"back in the day" lip synced and staged performances like this were more often than not an original performance by the band. The band would record a live version in a controlled studio and then "act it out" or li sync to that new version for the film or TV show. Trower's solo is not the one from the album that's for sure.
@Adominae But you were right, they really were great live. This recording sounds like maybe a live-ish studio recording. It would be nice to know the history.
These are definitely lip synched. It's tough to play live outdoors without any mics or amplification (although Slash seems to make it work in a lot of his videos). But this and Whiskey Train are alternate studio versions. Made just for this film? That guitar tone is fantastic BTW.
@jon1156 Mmm'..But imagine the logistics' of trying to play live in a situation like that'..There are versions about that are live'...and they do sound fantastic..!!..Procol Lives!!
I think they are lip synching here, but to which version of this song?? I know most of Procol's stuff like the back of my hand----this is not the version on the "Home" album. Brookers vocal is different, as is Trower's guitar also some slightly different piano. Anyone know where this version is on record?
So good to see this, thanks for uploading. Great to see the much much loved BJ Wilson again and Trower sounds amazing too with that dark gibson sound he used on Home, is a killer. Such a good track, and a very great album too.
I do think this was synched. But it's a good match, unlike Whiskey Train, which is slightly out. But still very very good to see!
Keith Reid looks great too. One of the beautiful people I call him.
Fabulous find. One of my 2 favoritist PH songs. Reid on organ, WOW. Not a sync song, cause I know Trower's lick by heart. Kind of a second rate solo if I may say, but I am happy to have seen him doing this before baricades and the EXIT. You guys really are the nazz
Keith can play keyboards did so as a kid then backed off

Cerdes0000;
Thank you for the info. I wonder if you are in contact with Larry P; a well known Procol collector and afficionado. If you are, please say hello.

It is the earlier version produced by Matthew Fisher

I saw them back Howlin' Wolf and play pure blues around '67 or so at Meadowbrook, outside of Detroit.

Keith Reid is "playing the organ" on the lip synch video. Of course on record Chris Copping played both bass and organ.
I do think this is an alternate version, though the changes are minor.
