That's not something that needs to be imposed on everyone.

He worked for that health care , no one gave it to him for free. As poor immigrant and as a little boy, my Mom took us to the Emergency room constantly for things like simple colds and she never paid a penny. TRUST Me... the poor have great healthcare... I know first hand. We had the best care... only complaint was the long waits due to many other immigrants visiting the Emergency room for minor colds & flus. They seemed to have a lot of time on their hand.

The takeaway I get from Congressman Etheridge's remark is that he only cares to represent those who don't have health insurance. He apparently doesn't care what the rest of us think or want. Of course, the typical liberal viewpoint is that we don't know what's best for us anyway.
I am in Congressman Etheridge's district, and he will NOT receive my vote next time he runs for ANYTHING.

The reason the marine has health care is because, the government doesn't pay him nearly enough to afford his own, instead they provide it as part of his pay and its not a Cadillac plan. . On the other hand Congressman Ethridge had the "Lexus" Congression health care even though hes paid extremely well as a Congressman and could afford it himself. Incidentally, thats health government health care you and I, citizens can't get because well, we're not the power elite.

I am also a vet.Congressman when is the last time you went to a VA hospital for healthcare. I dare say never. I have been injured while on active duty. I was unable to return to my job. It was a pain for me to get paid as well as receive treatment. before I could get surgery approved for surgery my ankle had started healing incorrectly. Whether you think VA is good or not is irrelivant. The fact is that it is a cost of having a military. Because somebody might think it provides great care does not mean it is run efficiently, it simply means the government pays out the wazzu for it.(As they should because our military deserves it). The bottom line is, the government runs nothing (nothing at all) efficiently. We can not afford to have the government provide any more services for us.

I was at this meeting also. What was not posted, was the Marine stating that no government program had ever worked. What Rep.Etheridge was pointing out with his comments, which was apparent to anyone with an IQ higher than a doorknob, was the Marine already has a government run medical program that he depends on.

You probably wouldn't know this, but the military medical has some problems, ie. there's usually a very long wait (how about 2 years for eye surgery) for medical work to get done, and there are a lot of cases of absolutely mediocre care and service. We're all nothing but numbers, because the docs know they don't have to fight for business and they know it's not easy for us to sue them for a botched job. That's not something that needs to be imposed on everyone.

I was in that town hall meeting and witnessed this. The Marine earned his health care as part of his job benefits working for the US government as a US Marine and veteran. He worked for that health care , no one gave it to him for free. If others want health care that will cover themselves and their family, they can also join the military, do their job honorably and receive the just rewards of an honest day's work for an honest day's pay and benefits.

Minimal, yes, but the many should also be responsible for their own. It's not free. Someone pays. It may as well be the responsibility of the individual receiving it.
Currently hospitals cannot deny you care. It sucks, it needs reform, but no one is outright legally denied care.
The current drafts are horrible and vague and leave far too much open for beurocratic translation. (too easy to make up rules as they go to obtain "control")
