In my opinion being gothic means that you find beauty in darker places than most people. You also think very differently than the "normal" person. You are more of a free thinker and are more excepting and considered to other who think differently as well. Goths are also some-what quiter than most people we have our opinions but prefer to put them in our writting songs or other forms of art.
being goth isnt about clothes or music..Its in the heart,soul..When you are overcome so much by agnoy and grief,that it projects its self into your life..when the sorrow swallows you whole..at least for ME its based on whats inside..not what you listen to or wear, tho black is part of the projection..it shows mouring loss,but i agree on what you said..the time comes you must find beautiy in the darkness..or else fight it and suffer more..for me it express's everything i am inside..nothing else
I agree with the first two, but not so much the third, if someone wants to listen to metalica instead of bauhaus, they can still be goth. it isn't about listening to any particular kind of music or dressing a certain way, goth is a frame of mind

Goths were blond haired Nordic tribes that occupied southern Sweden and northern Poland. They have nothing to do with your music, black clothing or love for darkness.
I dont think you need to take from in a gothic art to be Goth.Goth is just a lable....I dont take form in any Gothic art (although I draw and write) and people still call me yeah i wear black ans stuff but is it really goth? a preson who wears black and keeps to themselfs I dont understand....

okay there is a simple definition. we need to understand that goth has become a rather general thing, so the definition must be in turn rather general. a goth is someone who enjoys and takes part in various forms of gothic art. gothic art can include fashion, music, movies, architecture, aesthetics, etc. if you take part in it but don't enjoy it, you would be a posing goth. if you enjoy it but don't do it, you aren't a goth because it takes a bit of courage to stand out so much.
