  • Great tips here for preventing that auto-reboot annoyance. Otherwise, it seems you play kinda rough with your toys. It's a "delicate electronic instrument" -- not a hand tool.

My wife has had hers for over 2 years (loves it) but she was very glad when that crappy USB cover finally fell off and got lost for the last time. Since she carries her Pre in a sleeve in her purse, there's no worry about pocket fuzz getting in the socket.

Do you carry yours in your pocket? That might be the problem.

  • Here is a tip don't slam the phone down, when u have the keyboard up and ur putting it back down don't do it fast& last the battery might go fast cuz the back light is to bright I know that because my iPod touch battery dies fast when my back light is on to bright hoped that helped

  • What you expect the way you are using it I would not replace it the way you treat it

  • Maybe if you didnt slam it closed it wouldnt shut off !* just saying... -.- and btw for anyone who wants to get the palm pre should get the palm pre 2 waaaay better service!!

  • I might get that phone but in smaller form

  • I purchased 3 of these phones 1 had to be replace 1 week then 2 one speaker went 3 one has all of the problems as you do except the srceen is cracked 3 peaces of crap and the warrenty sucks as well i can,t say ant good thing about these phones junk.

  • awww the pixel died. idk why that seemed cute to me

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • OH MY GUSH A DEAD PIXEL!!! :O IT CANT BE!

  • all things considered the web0s system is already looking to be much better than all the current systems, just research it, and youl see just how much power is behind the pre that is barely even used.

  • U dont know how to use a Pre, its not a toy!

  • its not a brick, you cant bang these things around like that, there gentle devices.

  • @fizzed2010 He has probably droped it a thousand times

  • rip dead pixel :(

  • Those aren't problems. That damaged, my screen doesn't work. Tha'ts a problem....

  • Title should be:

Problems with a dropped Palm Pre

  • oh i wonder why my palm wont slide open sideways..? lmfao you dont have to ride the long bus to slide open a palm.

  • The only reason your phone is having problems is because it's not a Droid.

  • lmfao really i bet u dropped that phone at least 20 times lol

  • lmfao reaaly i bet u dropped that phone at least 20 times lol

  • don't take your anger out on the phone!

    take it out on jbrandonf.

  • Had none of these problems on any of my Pres (although I did have problems), but because of HP/Palm's stagnation and continuing bullshitting of us early adopters I've moved on to windows phone 7 (HD7) and am in love with my phone again. The Pre was cool for 2009 tho.

  • dude, have you, hmmm.... i dont know, ever dropped the phone or closed it too hard??

  • Ive had the phone for almost a year and a half, and I liked it at first, but now I completely hate it with a passion. Im planning on getting the HTC Evo 4g pretty soon. Soo all Ive got to say bout the pre is it sucks !!!!!!

  • lmao maybe you shouldnt be doing that. cause that deffinatley be a contributing factor

  • this is exactly why i don't like slider phones, they wear out so quickly.

  • ya looks like he dropped it a few times.

  • yo...i got something for you....say it again homey.

  • hhahaha thats ur fault!

  • What you don't like the 5 minute start time?

    :)

  • i hated my pre i dropped calls every 1 min so i gived it back :D but it was a gud phone

  • I have replaced my Palm Pre Plus twice and now I may have to go back to verizon a third time. My Palm Pre screen has gone black. It worked fine this morning and I was trying to upload a video to my FB. I later came back to check on the progress and the screen was black. I tried to turn it off and it is not doing a thing. The battery was almost full before upload. I tried to put it on the charger and nothing. I am soo frustrated with this phone. I can not make calls....nothing.

  • Challenge:

I have a palm pre.....it is now disconnected....i gotta a samsung moment now.....i CANNOT.....REPEAT CANNOT....get to my contacts on the pre.....i took it to 2 sprint stores and they cant get to my contacts simply because the screen is cracked!!!!

i cannot access anything on the pre due to the cracked screen and no one can transfer my important contacts over to my new phone.

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYBODY THAT KNOWS HOW TO REPAIR THE SCREEN SO I CAN CLICK ON THE ICONS FOR MY CONTACTS?

  • Comment removed

  • @webos1337

someone got dropped on their head.....come to Chicago and say that....must b one of those ignorant racist fools.

  • the ded pixel might be your spit or gunk?

  • MINES HAS THE SAMEEE PROBLEMSS !! -- im thinking of getting something else -.-

  • theres an app to fix dead pixels

  • my pre also has the problem when you open and shut it fast a couple times it like shuts off or something. :/

  • DARREN SPROLES!!!

  • i think like all the palm phones has dead pixels, my pixie has one to

  • @MrMVMichaelVo

mine never did, i had the pre.

  • That's a wear and tear issue. A new phone never comes with these problems, you just have to know how to take care of it.

  • I've had me Pre for a while and don't have any problems like this... i have no "oreo twist" effect at all, no dead pixles and broken plastic pieces... either that have already addressed some of these issues or as long as you don't abuse the phone you shouldn't have any prob i love my Pre best phone ever fuck the iphone

  • put a paper shim in the battery compartment, it shuts off because the battery detaches. i had that problem when i closed it softly lol

  • Anybody watching this video should note that these problems were resolved with the new Palm Pre Plus that are currently sold. I have a pre Plus and it has no wobble or any of these problems. So dont worry.... Its awesome.

  • OMG i have the exact same problems with mine...i love palm and all but come on with these little glitches..

  • omg! my palm pre has all of those problems!!!

and it does take 4ever to turn back on! they should wrk on that!

    palm sucks!!

    ugh.!

  • a dead pixel really shouldn't matter. its ONE pixel out of thousands.

  • my pre is 4 days old...i havent abused it...but i have the oreo twist effect and a dead pixel...

the pre is just not a good phone (hardware-wise)...the webOS is good and the browser speed is good, but the phone itself is SHIT...i think im switching to the HERO...

  • So, they make this thing called talking. I'd look into it.

  • I have some the exact same problems!!!! It's really annoying. The slider moves back and forth, the piece of plastic covering the micro usb port broke off, and when I slide the screen back, it sometimes turns off >.< I'm definitely getting a samsung galaxy s when it comes out

  • the palm pre sucks ..i have one and mine is right here with me and it wobbles and it always freezes.... THE WORST THING ABOUT IT IS THAT THE BATTERY!!!! THE BATTERY LIFE SUCKS. I HAVE TO CHARGE MY PHONE LIKE EVERY HOUR AND SOMETIMES I DONT EVEN USE IT

  • How about a case?

  • When you violently slide the pre closed it causes the battery to lose its contact inside the phone. my solution to fix that was to take a small piece of paper and fold it up a few times and tape it to the battery at the top so that the paper fills the gap in the battery slot and causes the battery to put extra pressure on the contacts at the bottom. It’s kind of ghetto but it fixes the problem and it’s taped to the battery so nobody will even see it.

  • @jcp560 Did that with my LG Vu. (until the touch screen crapped out. >.>)

  • @jcp560 Thanks that works perfectly

  • my suggestion switch to palm pre plus from verizon

  • Whoaa... :(

  • did you try taking it in for warinty

  • HOLY MOTHERFUCKING CUNT, A DEAD MOTHERFUCKING PIXEL!!! IT'S THE GODDAMN FUCKING ANTICHRIST!!!!

  • did you drop it?

  • #FAIL for u ....... #LOL for me!!!!

  • Ya slamming it shut will cause that lol bounces the battery away from the contacts :P also the side to side could be a bad model or could be because you put it in your pocket since its basically 2 pieces when you bend down or something with it in your pocket then it will try to twist it apart bending the slide mech.. my first pre did that i stuck it in my pocket the 2nd i bought the palm case and it is fine to this day 11 months later...

  • I havee the palmm pree and mines does that switchy thing but it's not as losee, I haven't even dropped it once.I wouldn't reccomend this phone...Good thing I will b getting the EVO4G on Friday,I CANT WAIT!!!

  • at 1:08 you smack it down (slide it down ) than hold on the switch of button...am i right guys?

  • If that is what your are complaining about you have too much time on your hands

  • Your discoloration can be due to the fact you slam it closed. It will vibrate the screen and do that. As it happened to mine.

  • becos you faggot pulled on the false site of the plastic and i dunno how you managed to get it loose that much did you through it against the fuckin wall? how stupid can ppl be

  • Thats your problem. you shouldn't be so rough with your phone, you imbecile.

  • if you spend 150 dollars on a phone that is advertized as good as the iphone, you expect to have as many problems, i had it for like a month and gave the bitch to my mom. then i got myself the new htc phone thing =)

  • @pinkmohawkninja i meant you expect it to not have as many problems

  • Looks like you got a shitty runt of the batch.

  • @blasko229 I was starting to like this phone after researching, but I hope the hardware is not a total wash.

  • I have the newer version of the palm pre plus from Verizon. I only had the phone 2-3 days & the phone would power down during the middle of a phone call. It would be fully charged & wouldnt start back up for about 5min. I exchanged it for a different phone .

  • Dang my pre is in top shape that's cause I take care of it. It also never goes in my pocket always in my hand. :)

  • yea... unfortunately thats just the build quality. it is the first webos device to ship and most all of the pres ive gotten(5) have all had at least the "oreo twist"(lol like that name

  • Yup, all these reasons are why I bought the Pixi instead. Same thing, but smaller, and no stupid slider. Minus wifi and flash capability and a little slower with a 2mp camera instead of 3 but at least it will work alot longer than a Pre!

  • i agree with all of that EXCEPT the thing were you fucked up the phone by shaking it.

  • i get wat u mean bout the sliding thing but the dead pixel really u cant even notice it!

  • dude.......i have all the exact same issues with my Pre....except the plastic covering for the charge port is still attached

  • Send it back to Palm or wherever you got it. If they say it's normal tell them you're not happy with the quality of the product and want a refund.

  • on my 4th pre in two months.

  • youre a bit hard on it..........

  • you must really be rough with your phones...

  • fuck you thats TO BAD FOR YOU. u little baby its ur problem that u BROKE it and u are just tryin to FRAME sprint. so what ur doin it dumb so stop.

    LOSERRR.

  • I've changed my phone for several times. Twice for the bleeding screens. Twice for dead pixels. Once for a stuck power button. Trade it in dude, I'm sure you within the 1 year warrantee.

  • How many times have you droped the phone?

  • @robsat66 just bought one yesterday. havent dropped it at all. still shuts off at random ecen when fully charged

  • @robsat66 I have had 3 of these phones and have never dropped one and the crack happens around the charge port. Great phone but has a few flaws. And sprint will not change the phone out unless you have software issues or if the crack messes you phone up.

  • @robsat66 i have the same phone and its just shiitty! he didnt drop it!

  • change it...

  • dude, those are all manufacturer's defects. get it replaced by sprint free of charge

  • not because he would slide it to hard but because when pres launched they had a smaller battery and the battery would move out of place and the phone would turn off..

  • ive none of these problems with my pre!! it is grate and i love it!!!!!

he is just to stupid to use it correct!

  • good

  • wow buddy a tiny black dot wont kill you

  • mines doesnt do dat lol umust have a defect

  • you are taking these problems way too seriously

  • Does anyone have a problem with the battery being full than instantly showing low battery life? My daughter and I have this problem.

  • sprint is like the best network i have full bars all the time. palm pre is a good phone IF!!! you treat it right

  • you shouldn't have to treat it like a baby, it's a phone... use it like a phone / messaging / communication device. Take off the diapers. if a company makes a phone that can't be used as intended (like sliding it up and down, or taking off the micro usb flap to charge DAILY) then it shouldn't be on the market, honestly. They should revamp it.

  • well mine is mint quality. i have a perfecy pre that has no problems. so either this guy has shitty luck when he picked the box or he caused all that stuff by himself. my pre doesnt have any play neither does my cousins but without play its harder to slide. my dad got the samsung moment and it also has play because its supposed to but morons like this guy want everything perfect

  • I have had the pre since day one. And it does suxs really bad. It was poorly made and it suxs.....Run away. the iphone is the best but on a crappy network. but it is the best by far.

  • It's clear here that he abused it.

Enjoy that crappy phone on a crappy network....SPRING!!!! HA HA HA HA!!!

Verizon Wireless Palm Pre Plus here I come!!!!

  • @lcromy fuck yu bitch, sprint all day everyday! sprint is cheaper. so yea

  • Don't be a little bitch b/c Sprint is loosing millions of customers per quarter. Facts are facts.

  • @lcromy get the dick outta nd remove it from yur face..cuz yu must be blind!..

  • Cry all you want shit eater because there is nothing in the world that you can say that will change the fact that Sprint sucks, VZ rules and I have a Pre Plus and you don't!!!! ha ha ha ha!!!!

  • @lcromy verizon sucks man even atnt is better than that shit

  • palm pre plus isnt even that different than pre. and if it wasnt for palm your shitty verizon wouldnt even have it lol so enjoy and just remember who gave it to you

  • @BorealNeal better than any phone you have.

and verizon is way better than whatever you have.

this is the best phone out there (dependsing on your needs), on the best network, (not depending on your needs, verizon is just the best).

  • wow atnt is even better than vz shit. i have the palm pre and pre plus is not that different buddy. vz is way too expenisve as well im better off with an iphone than any phone vz has to offer

  • word up to that!!! go VZW!!!

  • spring is not a network, you must be thinking of sprint

  • @lcromy you cant even spell sprint hahah its not a crappy phone i have had one for 2 months now and its still brand new conditon no complaints

  • The Palm pre doesn't do that on its own! You must be really bad at taking care of your phones like supchaka said!

  • latin princees to get games u go to the app catalog and when ur their tap on explore then got down then it will say games and then tap on any type of games u want and then u got ur self a game/ games

  • i've been having all of these problems. i want to take it to the sprint store and get a new one because i'm sick of it. is sprint gonna allow me to change phones? i've had the pre since about august.

  • i need to find out how to download games in to my palm pre..can anyone help? also theres a messga telling me that i might have lost data to call sprint..does that mean i have to reset my palm to restore?

  • my god its gonna break if u keep doing that to it :p

  • I had the same problem. They exchanged it right away, knew that there is a problem with this. It also makes that sound in the listeners ear, when talking on the phone.

I was shocked how mong it takes to turn on and off. Not thrilled with it. We have been with Sprint way too long.

  • I dont know how you care for your phone, I have 3 Pre's in the family and none of them flop around like that.

  • Poor video review.

  • I have a Palm Pre and I havent had any of these problems. I think its safe to say that you probably mistreat your phone. My slide up is in perfect condition and that's because I have a case on it. I have no dead pixels on it, and the door for the charger is a pain in the ass BUT i am VERY careful with my phone, It's a great phone and like ANY PHONE--you have to take care of it.

  • The only was he could get it really messed up like that is if he dropped it alot .

  • the palm pre is a cool phone im pritty sure your phone broke before because i know someone who has the palm pre and theres dose nothing like yours so odveuslly we all know you did it to your self

  • true we all know he did it .

  • the battery is too small thats why the phone shuts off when you close it hard.

  • I noticed on my new Pre they even soldered (glued?) the battery contact points at a slight angle so they make better contact to the battery.

I also have one dead pixel and a yellowish/warped looking screen under certain kinds of light.

Have an iPod touch and would have gotten an iPhone if my carrier sold them (the responsiveness of the touch screen isn't even close.)

Like the the potential of the Pre but seems like it could use some help in the quality assurance department.

  • why won't you just get a new pre or a different phone if your pre is that bad

  • To the many of you stating that i did something to the phone to create these problems and that I should have exchanged it for a new one:

For one, these problems occurred after owning the phone for only a week. How much abuse could I have put it through? The phone that I had prior looked like it was basically new after using if for two years. Also, these problems were congruent to the problems many original pre owners were experiencing when the device was originally released.

  • Secondly, as can be seen in the "Information" panel. I did return the phone after posting this video and I stated that the new phone, other than two dead pixels out of the box, was great. I have now had the new phone for six months without any major problems. The only issue I am experiencing is that sometimes the phone doesn't recognize when I take out a pair of headphones and it still acts like there is a set on the phone which leads to several inconveniences. Thanks for watching!

  • Take the headphone jack, spray a little bit of WD40 on it, quickly put the jack into the phone. Do this several times, problem solved!

  • Thank you for your insightful opinion. Hope you enjoyed the video.

  • @RacerJC2oo9 LULULU

  • dude dont abuse it thats all i gotta say. i love my palm pre.

  • mines doesnt do that

  • well its ur own fault!

and u have probably dropped it to make is like that first problem!

  • dude relax its just a phone and this is spam for real man it has nothing to do with the video. I love Jesus and all that but you are going to an entirely different level chill out

  • i want the pixi but you can't text on the touchscreen of it but you can download something for the pre so you can i don't know which one 2 get please let me know what you think

  • Just get the palm pixi it's wayyyyyyyy better it's skinnier it's lighter the keys are way easier to text on and it's touchscreen is more responsive

  • @awesomealex86 Its also slower, smaller screen, some apps look weird, some themes don't work, it doesn't have wi-fi, volume isn't as loud....

  • THEN SEND IT IN FOR REPAIR!!!

  • ok should i get the samsung moment for sprint or the iphone 3gs or the palm pixi??? p.s i had the pre. it sucked i returned it had alot of problems.

  • A dead pixel. lmao<3

  • thats why you buy a pixi instead! woohoo

  • 1) *** Newer Pre's don't have these problems. My wife just got a Pre and it feels much more solid than mine.***

    2) The reset problem has a simple fix. Go to totallypalmed-dot-blogspot-dot-com for that fix, among others, including the "oreo effect"

    3) The USB you broke was 100% your fault, sorry. Though I agree the little door on it sucks.

  • he said he got a new one

  • you treat it like shit that's why its like that..... you're wack

  • you're wack.....

  • u bitch a lot: if you saw these problems when u first had the phone... SEND IT BACK AND ASK FOR A NEW ONE U MORON!: i have one and ts freaking beautiful: no complains at all.. and as i could see... nothing last on ur hands.. learn to use electronics man!

  • coming from a past user...palm phones are horrible. they make really good attempts but they miss on the small things that really count.

  • THAT is one reason i will never EVA get another sliding up phone beacause my Moto Rokr fell apart LMAO!

  • R.I.P to the pixel :(

  • i see da dead pixel as a kinda beauty mark, it's special way of standing out from the rest of da phones :P

  • hahaha dead pixel

  • DEAD PIXELS DRIVE ME INSAAAAAAAANE !

  • why dont you take care of the phone, mabey then you wont have problems. oh and dead pixels are very common in electronics.

  • sproles sucks, and stop crying about non issues.

  • wow fuck you. you got a phone that you probably dropped and your bitching about that one little problem

  • that sucks, but returning it was smart, i have an lg rumor and it does the oreo thing, but that might be because i slide it alot and kinda hard. and with urs the shut down thing is weird, a phone that slides shouldnt shut off when it slides, its common sense

  • how do you open the palm pre. ive been trying but the back wont come loose and im afraid i might break it. any help?

  • Push the button and the bottom then use nails to pry off the sides gradually

  • mine dosent have any problems

  • the palm doesn't have that many problems. U just got a crappy one

  • havent had a problem with the pre and i pay close attention to detail, the whole "oreo twist " thing is because its a slider without a tack. you can observe this in the htc shadow or G1, they both have a sliding track guide so you don't get that wiggling screen

  • the more u do that the worse it gets

  • I've worked in the cell phone industry for 8 years and I have not seen a product that did not shown the same problems with a customers............

  • wow they screwed you over. i have one and its it has the oreo thing but its not that bad...and as for yo sliding it down, why dont u slide it down not so hard next time.

  • Replace that thing!

My frist Plam Pre Screen Stop responding after only 4-5 weeks of use and i've had my new one for around a week and it already has the oreo twist effect, if it get worst I'm going to ask them to swicth my Pre with a phone of equal price like the HTC Hero...As much as I love my Pre it has too many things wrong with it...=(

  • Hey i was text messaging people and im 34 and i went to shut it off cause it was late so when i did it didnt respond and then it caught on fire right in my hand i got a severe burn mark if ya dont believe me check out my twitter

  • Well I hope I get a new Palm Pre the one I have the power button Broke! It just went dead. If Sprint doesn't give me a new phone I swear. I'm literally gonna say to them this "Palm Pre sucks get an iPhone everyone!!" in the whole room hahaha

  • i had a palm pre day 1 and mine showed signs of being loose before all this came to light so i decided it was cheaply built and wasnt for me. now theres all these reports of this happening, im happy i left.

    palm...oh, palm.
