The question is not one of succession, but of identity. No religious group can trace a succession back to Pentecost: the Roman Catholics and some Baptist splinter groups have been known to try, and whoever they "hitch up" to was called about anything other than a Roman Catholic or Baptist, so that effort falls short.

This is the CofC:

It is a 150 year old denomination that legalistically misinterprets the Word of God in a Cut & Paste fashion, while either interpreting verses in a convoluted way, or by ignoring completely the scripture that invalidates their "limited" and errant theology.

They have no understanding of:

Hermaneutics

GRACE

Baptism

Holy Spirit

ASSURANCE of Salvation

They sing AMAZING GRACE, but don't think it's AMAZING - because they rely on the flesh to maintain their salvation!

Accusations are cheap. Proving the allegation is usually a little more difficult. We have a pretty decent understanding of baptism, for example - nobody can successfully refute it. You certainly wouldn't debate our position - you might "hit and run" - throw out broad accusations and skip from subject to subject. We attempt to rightly divide the Word and "call Bible things by Bible names." My bet is that you do not.

You cannot simply clump all CofCs together. Not all CofCs are as ignorant and spiritually void. I am presently a student at a CofC seminary where classes on the theology of evil, systematic theology and spiritual formation are not only offered but some are required. To claim that all CofCers are void of the thing you listed is false and does nothing to edify anyone who reads it. The CofC is a great church, but not the only right church. We, as Chrisitans, need to unite under our shared faith.

What CofC seminary - do they teach "salvation by grace thru faith in Christ" without additions that then make grace null and void? Do they teach assurance of salvation?
