As a "real athlete" and a hunter I can tell you that some of the greatest challenges I have ever had physically have been hunting. When you are hunting sheep on a mountain at 12,000 feet you will push yourself to your physical and mental limits........and when the weather turn deadly, you can't go to the locker room, or the clubhouse. If you break your arm or your leg, you can't call 911.....no paramedics come to rescue and take you to the team doctor. Only the strong survive in the wild.

Well ESPN presents poker players like they're athletes so what the hell?. I guess when I'm hiking fourteeners in the high country here in CO I'm a top athlete. Can't wait to see the inevitable news stories about the "athletic" hunters who having done nothing all year, but put down the Coors light die of a coronary hiking "12,000 feet" sneaking up on those dangerous "sheep." Where is the sport??? Sure it's an activity and hobby, but there is no competition. Happy hunting fat boy!

LOL. What I was trying to say is that many hunters, like mountain climbers are "real athletes". The competition may not be against another person, but rather against oneself. Just ask anybody who has every climbed Everest, K2, or Denali. The average Joe sitting in a tree stand may not be a "real athlete", but the guys who are international sheep hunters are tough SOBs. As a former sheep guide I have had to damn near drag more than one professional football player up the mountain.
