@ciaradestineesurf - If you save an image in GIMP, it saves it in GIMPs own XCF format by default. If you want a jpeg or a png you need to click File > Save As > give it a new file name, choose the file type from the drop down (such as jpeg, png, gif). But remember you should always save the XCF if you want to edit again later as it preserves all layers, and text layers intact.

@D4mpich Yes the link does work!!! I just tried it. You need to scroll down the page. There are two versions to download - the layerfx.scm or the layerfx.py - you need to install python to use the .py version - the .scm version works without python.

@Sparrisful - editing the font is shown from 2:06 on the video to 3:06 - if you wish to change the font, there is a font choice drop down in the Tool Options of the text tool.

@danielsplanb Are you sure you have the white layer above the other layers? It must be above the photos.

@nadiralloyd - you need to follow the tutorial step by step - you can't miss any steps out or it won't work - there must be a selection made (text to selection) before hitting delete and you must have the white layer selected, which must be above the other layers - it's all shown in the video.

What if I want to use a photo of myself? It doesn't work when you copy the pic from the computer but it worked when I searched for it on google.

@thelittlemanbeadles - if you are using your own images, you can open it in GIMP, click Select > All , then Edit > Copy. Then go back to your logo image, and click Edit > Paste. Alternatively you can just open an image as a layer directly in GIMP - File > Open As Layers.

@ForeverMaryl11 - well you would need a separate layer for each frame of your animation - so you are right, you'd need to do it several times, You could use Layers > New from Visible, then hide that layer, then make changes, and repeat the Layers > New from visible until you have enough frames to make up an entire animation sequence. Then you could erase all the layers you don't need and save it as an animated gif. It's going to be tricky!!

@ForeverMaryl11 Well, you could right click the white GIMP layer and choose, Alpha to Selection, then click Select > Invert, then right click the top-most layer, choose, Layers > New from visible, then right click that layer choose Add Layer Mask, choose the option "from selection" > Add - then hide or delete all of the other layers except the top one.

@Humii08 you need to follow the tutorial step by step - make sure you have the correct layer selected before you try to erase the overlap. It won't work if you have the wrong layer selected.

@Humii08 If the eraser is just erasing white instead of transparent, you need to add an alpha channel to the layer, right click it in the layers dialog, and choose Add Alpha Channel - now when you use the eraser, it will erase to transparency.

@lilpjuarez which browser are you using? I used Firefox. Simply right click an image and choose Copy. This should work with Internet Explorer and Google Chrome too. However some websites may have copying of images disabled, or the image may be part of a background. If it's a background image, then in Firefox you can right click and choose "View Background Image", then you can copy it.

@smilelingjoker12 - my tool bar looks like that because I customized it to look like that. Just use the tool bar you have. If you are still stuck hit CTRL+B to bring up your toolbox.

@JusticeDelore of course you can use your own pictures. Simply click File > Open As Layers > Navigate to where your images are saved, select the images you want, click Open. You may need to resize them, if so use the scale tool, click on your image, click and drag the handles to scale the image, then click Scale.

@FrenzyTaco017 Sure - select the white text layer, choose Alpha to Selection. Click Image > Merge Visible Layers, Right click the layer that's left, choose Add Alpha channel (if it's greyed out, it's already got an Alpha Channel), then click Select > Invert. Hit the Delete Key.

@MrKenneth1996 You need to make the layers yourself, copy and paste your images, then hit the new layer icon each time. The images must be on separate layers or the tutorial won't work.

@thebfunkthebfunk I think that what you aren't doing is pressing the icon to make each photo a layer, IE when you paste the photo in, you need to click the square icon on the layers menu, to make it a separate layer of its own.

@ptzieful - In GIMP you need to save an image as a jpeg or other format that is compatible with a website to be able to upload an image.

Click File > Save as, name your file, end with the extension .jpg then when the export dialog appears, hit Export.

@TodayImGood No need to start all over, you can save your image as a .xcf file in GIMP - click File > Save As > then type a filename like mypic.xcf - when you open it again, all the layers will be there for you to continue editing.
