I don't say that all american are KKK.... so don't say that all germans are Nazis! I'm not.
Why should Germans take it any longer to get insulted all the time. i know it was horrible, what happened in the past, but we people living now, don't have to do anything with that and we too all don't want this to happen again. But why should we be ashamed to be Germans? And why should we take it that others call us stupid? (Just to remind you, what happens in USA: there American people out there still selling things from the victims of the Holocaust, so it's not allways the Germans)
@radeczek555 If you start reviewing immediate pre and post - WWII history ,soon you will find the real insuflators of communism and capitalist mass tannate culture. They achieved the cumulus of wearing skletons in forehead - and were beloved for it !
The Lambeth Walk song first hit the London stage at the Victoria Palace theatre when the musical Me and My Girl opened up in December 1937 and its run there continued right through to 1940 and the London blitz when the theatre was bombed by the Nazis. The Lambeth Walk was a very popular dance at that time and was seen as a symbolic defiance against the horror of the Blitz on London and on Britain generally at that terrible time. Me and My Girl is still performed regularly here in the UK.
@radeczek555 Not true. Germany had the largest Communist party in the world outside of Russia. All these people had to be liquidated before Hitler and the Nazi's could take control. That's ALOT of murders.
Popular musicians always had a demimonde fame. The German version makes sexual connotations that would not be inappropriate for British censors while the connotations of the British version namely class are absent.
This video shows exactly to what extent Hollywood, capitalism and marxism have distorted our minds. They have kept telling us that germans would only listen to marches and northeuropean music at that time. Would you call all americans criminals only because their president and generals decided to drop two atomic bombs over innocent people?.
"Was sie da alles machen, das sind, Sachen" ist der genialste Weise einer deutschsprachigen Version überhaupt. Wenn man mal schaut sieht man wie kreoldeutsch die ganze Unterhaltungsmusike vor dem Zusammenbruch 45 war, da ging's richtig ab.
@PANZERCAMPINO To betray Russia and USA economic help , to prosecute ethnical groups as a basic principle,, to support the army which bombed Guernica ( all in peace time ), were not crimes from your view, I suppose.
While it appears true that the Germans voted for Hitler one must remember that there were two anti-semites trying to become Chancellor of Germany . Remember Von Pappen?
I would also like to point out that the photo of the "Swing tanzen verboten" sign seems to be fake, since the background is black and white while the sign itself is in a bright orange that couldn't even have been reproduced with 1930s photography.
This music was not banned in the Third Reich at all. This happens to be one of the songs performed by Karl Schwedler's orchestra in propaganda broadcasts for the Allies.
There was much wilder stuff than this in motion pictures from the Third Reich. Do a search on Marika Rökk.
I really love this video and play it several times almost every day. It makes me feel very happy. I particularly like the macho voice of the singer and his "hübsch und adrett, hey!". What a lovely swinging piece of music !
I was born in the Walk. My mother (still living) told me that when Mosley's fascists tried their anti-Jewish retoric on the locals they were kicked out,
Mmm, my German friend did tell me that the German education system adroitly manoeuvres around such embarrassing slips as WW2! Clearly you were away on the day they gave the lesson!
Oh, you were clearly away on the day of the lesson about the German colonies in Africa - maybe both subjects were put into the same half hour. Never seen the film The African Queen ? Oh, sorry - also a work of fiction.

this is untrue- rather shallow post war propaganda in fact-
"Swing tanzen verboten" was a wartime term that stressed suspending a good time for the war effort-
NOT to ban the music itself- German swing/Jazz music was as plentiful and as accomplished in it's musicianship as anywhere, it was hugely popular not least with the great Jazz fan Dr. Joseoh Goebbels!
There are 100s of great recordings from Germany 1930-1945 and I'd advise you all to take a closer listen and leave politics in the bin...
Great point , "Post war propaganda" is right! There are so many Lies and outright exaggerations regarding how life was in Germany during this time. Jazz music is just a Newly explored (and highly improvised, depending on the choice of execution) offshoot of European derived folk and band music (Polkas, Reels ,Jigs, MIlitary style etc.) Along with certain Classical European elements. One should remember how much French Culture existed in New Orleans in the early 1900's for example.
@goatface1000 And you are incapable of beginning to comprehend anything that you haven't heard repeated at least a 100,000 times. Why is he a Nazi? Has he stated something you know to be factually incorrect? Well? It's strikes me as very obvious that, given the opportunity, you would sensor anyone, who happens to say anything, that doesn't fit in with your narrow minded little world. And you have the nerve to call others "Nazi".
Well anybody who does not regard Nazism as an obscenity is a Nazi fact so trying to say that there were misconseptions about life in Nazi Germany must be a Nazi. As for the muddled ideas about the origins of jazz not worthy of comment. If you think Nazi jazz is ok look at at Charlie & his Orch playing Makin Whoopee.
@goatface1000 I'm truly sorry to have to be the bringer, of bad news, but has it really escaped your notice, that in actual fact, the world is indeed run by Nazis? They may not wear the same uniforms, and the words that they speak may appear different. However, don't be fooled. It becomes more apparent by the year, that whoever is running the show and obviously, I don't mean Obama, Brown, Mertel, etc, etc, have a terrifying future, in store for the masses like you and me.
@MisAnnThorpe Is your user name a play on misanthrope? I don't think that our politicians are wonderful however to say the world is run by Nazis is just paronoid conspirancy theories. Explain what you mean
@goatface1000 Congratulaions you are the 1st to see through my pretentious moniker! Unfortunately google is not a good medium for going into detail, so I won't be able to explain as I would like. Also I fear that you are too set in your thinking and that after a lifetime of exposure to "official" history, nothing I could say would make the slightest difference. Perhaps you and I have different ideas as to what constitutes "a Nazi". There are many and varied ways to destroy people.
@MisAnnThorpe I do crosswords so it rather stuck out A Nazi is specifically a member of the NSDAP the revolting creatures who slaughtered humanS in the death camps. It has also become a general insult to those on the left to use to describe a racist person or political party such as the BNP. Stalin was an evil man and a dictator however he was not a Nazi. The same applies to Idi Amin, or any other despot.
@goatface1000 I still fail to see, that he said anything, that justifies you labelling him a Nazi! Surely, it can't be because according to you, he happens to possess "muddled ideas about the origins of Jazz". These things are rarely clear cut and surely, you will concede, that Jazz didn't just materialise out of nothing, without various influences? Don't forget that even the Nazis, acknowledged the British as the masters of Propaganda! As always in war, the "winners" decide what's the "truth"
@MisAnnThorpe I think the phrase' There are so many lies and outright exagerations about life in Nazi Germany is a good pointer as to his politics. Also his strange ideas about the origins of Jazz are a clue as well. I don't recall Charlie Parker playing any reels or military 2 steps.
@goatface1000 You seem to view all Germans who lived through that period as Nazis. Can you say for sure, you know how you would have behaved as a German living in Germany during this period? In a climate of fear and hysteria, human conduct is rarely a pretty sight to behold. Possibly the biggest accusation that could be leveled against the actions of the German people, is that most of them did not act at all. Either for good or bad.
@MisAnnThorpe You are very wise, the real crime was the ignorance, Simon Wiesenthal did not believe in collective national responsibility. I am sure that whilst 99% of Germans knew what was going on they chose to ignore rather than say anything. Jews played an active part in German society pre Nazi and for the vanishing of doctors teachers etc not to be noticed is inconcievable.
@goatface1000 After my previous comments I was rather expecting to be branded a Nazi myself. It's nice that we can find some common ground. However, while it is fair to say that the German people could not have failed to notice the disappearance of the Jews from their communities, it is another thing entirely to assume that 99% of those self-same Germans, also knew of the Final Solution. I strongly suspect that the Nazi hierarchy would have felt it imprudent for the masses to be informed.
@MisAnnThorpe So where did they think they were going? The German people voted Hitler into power on a extreme anti semitic nationalist manifesto. They saw the smashing of the shops the humiliation of school children the previous friends ostracised. Whilst I don't blame the current Germans the ones who were around then saw and knew what was happening. It was just something that was not mentioned. After the passage of time who to blame is immaterial
@goatface1000 What you will never be told by our controlled press is that the German people voting in the Nazis was an act of desperation on their part, primarily in response to Germanys enforced acceptance of the Young Plan, replacing the far more lenient Dawes Plan. This meant Germany was now liable for an extra $16 billion in debt, to be paid in cash, not goods! The economy was ruined almost overnight. Unemployment hit around 1 million. Hitler promised jobs. Germany voted Nazi.
@MisAnnThorpe I am aware of how Hitler came to power however whatever happened to the German economy cannot justify the holocaust and all other butcheries associated with Nazism. You are forgetting the Germans need to avenge the defeat of 1918. They spoke of the Novemeber criminals, they blamed the jews and socialists for the defeat. It was not only the Nazis who preached this others did. Also Hitler did not come to power until 1933, The Young plan was much earlier.
@goatface1000 Versailles was a show and a farce controlled by the Elite from beginning to end. Woodrow Wilson was "advised" by Colonel House &Bernard Baruch, both Rothschild-Elite representatives; Lloyd George was advised by Lord Milner of the Roundtable & Sir Philip Sassoon, a direct descendent of Mayer Amschel Rothschild: Clemenceau by his Minister for the Interior, whose real name was Jeroboam Rothschild. Included in the American Commission to Negotiate Peace were the Dulles brothers.
@MisAnnThorpe Why are you banging on about the the Rothschild's? You are not going to suggest that the Jews were responsible for stitching Germany up and sowing the seeds of WW2?
@goatface1000 John Foster Dulles & Allen Dulles were cousins of the Rockefellers. John F. had made known in 1911his support for the creation of a 'superrace' by 'eliminating the lower members'. The Dulles law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, handled the U.S. affairs of I.G. Farben and Hitlers major financial backer, Fritz Thyssen who introduced Allen to Hitler. After Hitlers rise to power, John Foster was sent to Germany on behalf of the Rothschild/Round Table group, 2 negotiate new loans 4 the Nazis.
@MisAnnThorpe Sorry I don't see where this is going. You did not answer my question. Are you saying thet the Jews were responsible for the rise of Nazism and WW2?
@goatface1000 I'm saying that the Treaty of Versailles was very deliberately designed to ensure through its impossible reparation demands the failure of the new German Democratic Republic and the rise of Adolf Hitler. Why do you need to ask me what I think? I'm giving you facts here. You can check every one of them. If you are brave/inquisitive enough, start doing your own research. Believe me, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Just look into I.G. Farben alone. Incredible.
@MisAnnThorpe So your theory is that the victorious allies set it up so that Germany would become a totalitarian state and that there would be another war at the behest of the Rothschild family?
@goatface1000 You still absolutely fail to get it, don't you! WWI was planned and created by the Elite using the power and money of the banking and secret society network. Victorious allies? The only victors were the Elite, with Europe submerged in debt to the Elites bankers who of course had loaned money to both sides. J.P. Morgan was at the very heart of this. This is all about power and money. These people do not see things in terms of national identity.
@MisAnnThorpe It is a strange fact that many people who spout these conspirancy theories end up blaming the Jews, I sometimes wonder if the are secretly ashamed of their anti-semitism and use their delusional ideas to cloak the fact that they are just being prejudiced.
@goatface1000 You need to get used to the term conspiracy fact. Please do not think of me as anti- Jewish, if anything I'm anti-human. Without wishing to sound overly dramatic or paranoid, it occurred to me last night, whilst lying in bed, that I've probably already said far more than is safe to do. For that reason and that alone, I wish to speak no more on such matters. Trust you will stick to your ostrich like ways! I really don't blame you. Knowledge is not always such a good thing.
@MisAnnThorpe The Secret Government by Derek Wilson? I suggest you flee the country whilst there is yet time. The boat train to the continent leaves from Waterloo at first light, be on it. Go to Basle on the Rue Du Caen there is a tobaccoinst called Reynard. Go in and use the phrase ' My crocodile had food poisoning' He will reply. 'Mine has a cold' You will be looked after, perhaps one day you can return, until then AuRevoir.
@MisAnnThorpe The treaty of Versailles was indeed meant to ensure the failure, and crippling of Germany. This was out of resentment and fear. It is ludicrous to say that the victors at Versailles wanted Hitler and Nazi Germany to rise from the effects of their treaty. The treaty was an effort to prevent such a thing. It is a fact of life that if you fear something and take actions against it you more often than not create the very thing you fear.
@mfh2kdw210 wow. i always thought that Jazz was African derived and that millions of jews, gypsies, disabled and communists were put in concentration camps during this time... i never actually had the Lambeth Walk down as Jazz as such either. just goes to show how much we've been influenced by "postwar propaganda". seems as though they were all just wanted to have a dance (and kill several million russians and poles).
Hans Rehmstedt studied in early 30ths violin at the "Hochschule für Musik" in Berlin. His first jobs in dancemusic: just for earning some money as youngster. But he "got lost": he formed step-by-step an own danceband - in 1938 he played with a 11 piece band at the then luxury Eden-Hotel Berlin. In 1940 he formed a smaller band (but busy with bigbands for studiowork). After '45: Old glamour had gone! Hard days for society-bands. Rehmstedt died by car accident in early 50ths at Hanover!
It was considered "Jewish" because in the US a large percentage of swing music was performed by bands led by Jews. Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and I believe Bunny Berigan was Jewish as well.
magnificent video..Lambeth Walk was a crazee dance in 1939 ¡HOY¡ ..i been this 9 august in Deauville to see a Expo of Seeberger brother photographers ¨de la Ellegance¨...Ive seen a beauty photo of Corinne Luchaire who won first PRIX in 1939 competition of Lambeth Walk the president of the jury was Leni Riefenstalt ...Corinne was Nazi spione but it seems imposible to find the scarce recordings she done in Paris. Please if you know...BLUE MOON XaviQuiñones
Thank you for posting this great music. I just had some of my great nieces and nephews over and I had this song still playing on my computer. They complained a bit about this "old fashioned" song. But when I told them the history of this and what "Swing tanzen verboten" ment, they were quite shocked. I think this brought home the monstrosity of the Nazi regime better than any lecture could have done. It really made them think.
How stupid can the Nazis be to ban a GREAT form of music. Especially one that the Germans could play so very well. They probably thought it was "Jewish" but it wasn't. Jazz is for EVERYBODY!
The script is as good as the film. By the way, the 'Oi' was used quite extensively and , if my memory serves me correctly, comedians like Arthur Haynes and Arthur Askey, Terry Thomas, and others whose name I forget used it a lot. They also used 'Oi, Oi', which of course denoted suspiction of one kind or another. Finally, I actually thought that the Lambet Walk went back further in history than the 30s. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the information! I've heard a number of propaganda recordings in English by "Charlie and His Orchestra" (reportedly led by Karl Schwendler), and they sounded like a very good jazz group. But they apparently recorded solely for broadcast on stations like Reichrundfunk and "DEBUNK" to attract English and American listeners.
The sign „Swing tanzen verboten!" is a fake. It was designed in the seventies for the reissue of vinyl transcriptions of old swing and dance recordings.
That Berlin was far better than modern multiculti liberal shit called Berlinstan.

The same applies to Idi Amin, or any other despot.
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 I still fail to see, that he said anything, that justifies you labelling him a Nazi! Surely, it can't be because according to you, he happens to possess "muddled ideas about the origins of Jazz". These things are rarely clear cut and surely, you will concede, that Jazz didn't just materialise out of nothing, without various influences? Don't forget that even the Nazis, acknowledged the British as the masters of Propaganda! As always in war, the "winners" decide what's the "truth"
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe I think the phrase' There are so many lies and outright exagerations about life in Nazi Germany is a good pointer as to his politics. Also his strange ideas about the origins of Jazz are a clue as well. I don't recall Charlie Parker playing any reels or military 2 steps.
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 You seem to view all Germans who lived through that period as Nazis. Can you say for sure, you know how you would have behaved as a German living in Germany during this period? In a climate of fear and hysteria, human conduct is rarely a pretty sight to behold. Possibly the biggest accusation that could be leveled against the actions of the German people, is that most of them did not act at all. Either for good or bad.
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe You are very wise, the real crime was the ignorance, Simon Wiesenthal did not believe in collective national responsibility. I am sure that whilst 99% of Germans knew what was going on they chose to ignore rather than say anything. Jews played an active part in German society pre Nazi and for the vanishing of doctors teachers etc not to be noticed is inconcievable.
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 After my previous comments I was rather expecting to be branded a Nazi myself. It's nice that we can find some common ground. However, while it is fair to say that the German people could not have failed to notice the disappearance of the Jews from their communities, it is another thing entirely to assume that 99% of those self-same Germans, also knew of the Final Solution. I strongly suspect that the Nazi hierarchy would have felt it imprudent for the masses to be informed.
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe So where did they think they were going? The German people voted Hitler into power on a extreme anti semitic nationalist manifesto. They saw the smashing of the shops the humiliation of school children the previous friends ostracised. Whilst I don't blame the current Germans the ones who were around then saw and knew what was happening. It was just something that was not mentioned. After the passage of time who to blame is immaterial
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 What you will never be told by our controlled press is that the German people voting in the Nazis was an act of desperation on their part, primarily in response to Germanys enforced acceptance of the Young Plan, replacing the far more lenient Dawes Plan. This meant Germany was now liable for an extra $16 billion in debt, to be paid in cash, not goods! The economy was ruined almost overnight. Unemployment hit around 1 million. Hitler promised jobs. Germany voted Nazi.
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago

MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe Why are you banging on about the the Rothschild's? You are not going to suggest that the Jews were responsible for stitching Germany up and sowing the seeds of WW2?
goatface1000 1 year ago
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe Sorry I don't see where this is going. You did not answer my question. Are you saying thet the Jews were responsible for the rise of Nazism and WW2?
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 I'm saying that the Treaty of Versailles was very deliberately designed to ensure through its impossible reparation demands the failure of the new German Democratic Republic and the rise of Adolf Hitler. Why do you need to ask me what I think? I'm giving you facts here. You can check every one of them. If you are brave/inquisitive enough, start doing your own research. Believe me, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Just look into I.G. Farben alone. Incredible.
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe So your theory is that the victorious allies set it up so that Germany would become a totalitarian state and that there would be another war at the behest of the Rothschild family?
goatface1000 1 year ago
@goatface1000 You still absolutely fail to get it, don't you! WWI was planned and created by the Elite using the power and money of the banking and secret society network. Victorious allies? The only victors were the Elite, with Europe submerged in debt to the Elites bankers who of course had loaned money to both sides. J.P. Morgan was at the very heart of this. This is all about power and money. These people do not see things in terms of national identity.
MisAnnThorpe 1 year ago
@MisAnnThorpe It is a strange fact that many people who spout these conspirancy theories end up blaming the Jews, I sometimes wonder if the are secretly ashamed of their anti-semitism and use their delusional ideas to cloak the fact that they are just being prejudiced.
goatface1000 1 year ago

@mfh2kdw210 That's right! Only European influences in Jazz. Oh dear. -sigh-
lurcherlongdog 1 year ago
@mfh2kdw210 wow. i always thought that Jazz was African derived and that millions of jews, gypsies, disabled and communists were put in concentration camps during this time... i never actually had the Lambeth Walk down as Jazz as such either. just goes to show how much we've been influenced by "postwar propaganda". seems as though they were all just wanted to have a dance (and kill several million russians and poles).
flankie2 1 year ago
And of course, Jazz wouldn't exist without the syncopated rhythms that came from traditional African music.

and what became of hans rehmstedt?
videorocker2001 3 years ago
If you find out, please let me know! Given the restrictions he was up against, his band did quite well.
FriendlyGrizzly 3 years ago
Hans Rehmstedt studied in early 30ths violin at the "Hochschule für Musik" in Berlin. His first jobs in dancemusic: just for earning some money as youngster. But he "got lost": he formed step-by-step an own danceband - in 1938 he played with a 11 piece band at the then luxury Eden-Hotel Berlin. In 1940 he formed a smaller band (but busy with bigbands for studiowork). After '45: Old glamour had gone! Hard days for society-bands. Rehmstedt died by car accident in early 50ths at Hanover!

does anyone know more of the cafe heinze? where was it located etc. thanks!
videorocker2001 3 years ago
It what sense was this considered "Jewish music?" And are there moving pictures of this dance being performed? Thanks and great song!
yelloworangered 3 years ago
It was considered "Jewish" because in the US a large percentage of swing music was performed by bands led by Jews. Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and I believe Bunny Berigan was Jewish as well.

Many of my ancestors came from Lambeth, many were killed in the forces and in air raids by the same Germans who forbad this music.

So thank you again!
