  • I love this episode, I laughed a lot.

  • "I take it it's over, over there?" I only just got that and I've watched this episode heaps. I can't believe the standard of writing for this show. And people complaining about stereotyping and imperfect/wrong accents in a comedic TV show spanning 11 years? Seriously?

  • @butterscotchsoda I still don't get it. Please explain that phrase

  • Frasier does seem to make a lot of connections with lingerie models

  • "missed connections" rather

  • I think there must be a policy on Frasier that all British accents must be really rubbish

  • I really love Frasier, I just wish they'd steered clear of British culture. They got it hopelessly wrong every time, as Americans always do. Jane Leeves may be English but her Mancunian accent is awful (I'm a Mancunian by the way). However, I've always imagined her being from somewhere near Manchester or something. But the rest? That 'cor bloimey wotcha' accent of the other woman is cringeworthy. And we don't sit round the piano singing cockney songs, it's not 1938.

  • Cheerio!!!!

  • They're not stereotypical accents, they are regional accents of Manchester and the north. Whenever a yank whines about the British accent, they need to actually watch or speak to more than one person from Britain. We have more variations of accents than america does.

  • Good episode. However, as a resident of England, I'd like to point out that we don't actually talk like that, and that there are so many stereotypes, it's not even funny.

  • Shame everyone can't just enjoy the episode. I'm British (very much so) and no problem with the stereotypes, it's not like they're negative like they do sometimes in Family Guy. The accents may be a bit annoying, but it's all harmless. And Frasier's so entertaining, who really cares?

  • the child Niles is so awesome

  • was I the only one waiting to see an english version of Norm at that pub, Cheers seemed to imply that for every bar there is a Norm.

  • "I spell colour with a U". You'd better.

  • Perfect script!

  • THE CLASSS THE WORDS THEU USE THE KNOWLEDGE WOW THIS SHOW IS SO DIFF FROM TYPICALL MIDDLE CLASS COMEDY SHOWW

  • who are those kids--? we have the internet? where are they? you know they are watching this every day!

  • Wouldn't Bedouins be alright in a sandstorm?

  • That ladies' loo must have been sound-proof.

  • Only problem with Frasier is how or the English people are Americans in Mockney accents. It's worst with Daphne's family, she's from Manchester and her mum is Lancashire and the brother sounds like an extra from Eastenders.

  • "dowdy old sandbag with a flower pot on her head." ouch lol

  • However sophisticated you might think the show Frasier is, it only takes an episode like this to realise the people who make it are as insular and ignorant about the world around them as every other American.

  • @MKShaggy1985 Cool story Brah

  • @MKShaggy1985 How do you figure?

  • @dierre27 I agree.

  • It's so weird hearing them say "Pub" and "lift" and "fortnight".

I love it! They sound like me! xD

  • This is the hardest "roll" since hamlet! hahah!

  • I Spell Color with a u!

  • @IntenseLashes SO do I and I am American. :/

  • Haha when the kid says 'they wont silence my pen' great acting.. just like niles

  • I love Frasier and being British, listening to the Americans trying to do British accents is hilarious! Particularly love the fact that Daphne's brothers are Scottish, Cockney and RP. Love it!

  • @TheGilhooly good for you. I hate it when people come on and say "grrr, the accents are wrong." So what :P Have fun with it and laugh. I've heard plenty of british actors doing dreadful "american" accents (some sort of weird conglomerate of southern drawl and slang with northeastern flatness lol) and vice versa. It doesn't even matter that Frasier goes to a pub, the point is to present a situation that people can relate to- your hangout spot is taken over and you just want to be left alone. ;p

  • i can not belive how much ppl read into these COMEDY shows it is ABSALUTLY RIDICULOUSE (there are probly spelling erorrs but u ppl get the point don't try to look to deeply into it)

  • Can I just say as an Englishman, I never fail to be annoyed at actors attempts to do any accent Americans can understand lol (think Cheryl Cole).

Daphnes sister sounds more Australian than anything.

    Bah humbug, etc.

  • Those kids must have observed Kelsey Grammar and David Hyde Pierce for weeks on end to nail them so well :D

  • I know I'm an American and only mildly familiar with British slang, but I don't think Cricket is slang for Darts. Am I wrong?

  • @SoulTenor Cricket is a particular darts game.

  • Who gives a fuck about the bad accents? THIS IS TELEVISION GOLD RIGHT HERE,ENJOY IT!

  • @CapitalBhoy78 Amen! Who cares if they have a french accent or a spanish accent? I could care less. I just enjoy the show for what it is, pure genius.

  • those children are wonderful actors!

  • Concerto !!!!

  • thank you

  • Nice to see Frasier showing the more down to earth side of his character in this episode that was prominent in Cheers

  • what is wrong with these people angie dickenson over Ursula Andress?! Its THE Bond girl.

aww no english Norm in the pub?

It somehow really refreshing to see see Fraiser in a bar again.

Does Seattle really have enough english people to constitute having a pub?

I'm with Frasier, she's only been coming there a little bit longer than Frasier plus that was some bad cheating, typical brits I suppose.

  • thats one of the best openings ever!

  • Frank: "there is nothing more beautiful than a pregnanat broad." LOL!!

  • by the way that idiot that brushed Daphne off because she wasn't "an underwear model" is a huge loser! How shallow can you be? I mean good grief, it's not like she isn't good looking, not to mention looks are only skin deep. I know it's just a show, but I see guys do that and it makes me mad at my own sex.

  • "So you do know my policy ? " "Off we go."

  • I'm surprised Maris was able to straddle a butterball turkey

  • Yes, we're all gutted we lost the revolutionary war. Sometimes I can't sleep at night knowing that we lost our control of the 13 colonies. Sometimes I wish we still oppressed India too. The world changes, role with the punches!

  • @Dormyr Better that we were a British colony than any other country in Europe. Many of our ideas came from Britain; we just added a bit to it.

  • @DanPhantom89 most of the ideas came from the french revolution

  • So let me get this straight; Frasier knows how to play darts, Niles and Frasier play squash and Niles later learns how to kick box...I think that's pretty manish! I know it's not football or baseball but that seems man enough to me! Why are they always shat on for not being guy's guys?! I know loads of laddish men who don't know any sports.

  • Yes. That is indeed how English people behave in a pub. I can't remember how many times I've had a good cockney knees up around the old Joanna...

  • I SPELL COLOR WITH A UUUUUU

  • They're so much like Niles and Frasier its scary.

  • It's just a show, and stereotypes make for higher ratings. I'm from Texas, and Texans (and Southerners in general) are made into boot-scootin' bumpkin' laughingstocks more than nearly any other stereotyped persona. It gets old, but it is what it is. If it bothers you, watch something "Authentically Britannic" if you'd rather. Or just enjoy the classic humor of Frasier.

  • This picture of Britain is entirely unrecognisable. Singing "Knees up Mother Brown" etc went out in the fifties. The beer has never been warm, only cool. And where do they get those accents from? Dick van Dyke? For me the Daphne episodes are cringe-making a) she is not a good actress b) the idea that she could fall for Niles is ridiculous, and c) Why the hell is she ordered about like a servant when she is Martin's physio.?

  • a dowdy old sandbag with a flower pot on her head LOLOL

  • "Have you tried maybe dropping a hint?" *pops cork erratically

    lol martin

  • Another great show. Loved Niles description of Maris and the saddle incident and Frasier's funny look.

  • I always find it disappointing that American shows portray Brits as singing cockney songs in the pubs all the time... No one at all ever does that, anywhere! Such a huge stereotype, with no truth in it whatsoever. I love this show, but if you're going to have a plotline involving a bunch of British people then cast British actors!

  • @Ickleyvickley That's nothing compared to the stereotype that shows like Fawlty Towers or Doctor Who do. All Americans are selfish loud-mouthed jerks who only care about money or sex. Americans are just as individual as any other Country. And just because one has money doesn't mean they are selfish or engaged in illegal or immoral behavior.

  • "I score again !"

"That's not something we hear from your mouth very often."

    Ouchh, low blow, Daphne !

  • those kids were GREAT lol little Niles cracked me up... they should have used them more,.,.

  • Oh gosh, what I'd give to have a nice, intellectual conversation with those two. People call them snobs, but that's just because they possess that rare intelligence found in the world nowadays.

  • @twiwonder I assume you mean *not* found (or rarely found) in the world today in which case I'd mostly agree haha. I have similar tastes as these 2 (art, good literature, classical music, wine etc) although I am of course far from being able to indulge these tastes to the same degree.. but it's sad that virtually none of my peers or even elders share any of these tastes!! (i'm 21)

  • @ShawDAMAN Oh, my...I'm sorry. I just noticed that typo. And thank you. I'm glad you agree. :)

And I share those same "tastes" and interests, so that makes one. :)

  • Just realised the reference of the title to Cheers after Frasier mentioned the bar in Boston...

  • Comment removed

  • I love Niles' suits.

  • I feel sorry for both Frasier and Daphne. This is an odd episode. Everyone seems so disconnected.

  • At the end, if you look at Kelsey's hands you can see he's not actually hitting the keys on the piano lol!

  • I love these episodes where British culture and American culture collide :D ive always wanted to go to America..

  • @AuroraWhispers And I've always wanted to go to Britain. :) I'm Canadian, by the way.

  • @Milfuelle100 Lets swap then! :D

  • @AuroraWhispers lol. Wish I could! <3

  • lol frasier's laugh at 18:51

  • You're lost aren't you

Like a Bedouin in a sandstorm

  • Frasier, I'd have to have a pretty fragile ego to be upset just because you want to take some time away from me

    Is this ready

    Separate Checks Please

    ROFL

  • isn't it odd how, when the crane boys grow up, niles gains a cleft chin and frasier loses his a little... hmmm

  • Do americans actually think english people talk like this? its not oliver!

  • @MorbidDoll No we don't. I promise. It's just exaggerated for comedic effect. Even being in England or Scotland or wherever, the accents all vary and the personalities all vary. It's exactly like America...Diverse. I think generalization is a waste of time, but in this show it' was funny. You don't believe it to be true, but you laugh at what they came up with.

  • Young Frasier has some really good hair

  • How awesome would if have been if at 8:48 they had been singing the cheers theme?

  • I think one tiny flaw in Frasier is when Niles and Frasier look bewildered when Daphne uses English expressions. They studied at Cambridge and Oxford respectively.

  • @Dormyr You have an interesting point. But I don't think they were exposed to the colloquial expressions Daphne uses around them in an environment like Cambridge and Oxford...

  • @drunkandangry I was considering university in Cambridge, I don't think it's that far fetched. However, that is a good excuse.

  • @drunkandangry Also it's operating on the British idea that Americans don't understand their slang, which is just entirely false. I teach English in Chile and have had tons of Brits who work here actually take the time to explain to me what expressions like "smashing!" and "shagging" mean, as if I didn't already know or couldn't figure out myself. I just listen politely and play along lol

  • I love the episodes where we get to see a different side to the character's relationships with each other. The bond between Frasier and Daphne has always been hilarious

  • bobby darin rules

  • can anybody tell me which of the guys is duke at the poker table? :)

  • tiny Frasier and Niles!!! Dawww.

"I take it that it's 'over over there?'" Teehee, nicely put Niles!

  • ... youdontwannarushit.

  • The little blonde boy really acts out Nails well in the final scene.

  • I think those child actors were SO well picked! Especially young Niles and his persnickety little facial expressions! :)

  • Young Niles and Frasier are spot on.

  • Id love to trip Acid with Frasier and Niles

  • sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name

  • frasier is a great one. i only think that so called "british" people are primitive, a bit more than their us brothers. hence, they sholud be called "brutish". screw the bruts!

  • fuck all them brits. Frasier was the superior dart player and verbally pwned an entire nation. Why should numbers be against a man in his own country?

  • 70% of the humor in this show must come from misunderstandings... but i guess that's life

  • Hooray for cheers reference!

  • My god...English accents...So sexy!

  • I wanted to see Daphne doing armpit farts.

  • Young Frasier and Niles are so adorable. I enjoy watching this comedy. I love Niles fascination with Dafanny. I like those episodes where Niles admires and thinks about Dafanny. I don't like Marris. Oh, I love Eddie. He is very mannered for a dog.

  • The guy who plays Frank is featured in a swedish movie called Änglagård Andra sommaren ("Angels-farm", the second summer) playing a guy that emigrated from Sweden to USA and his two brothers is paying him a visit.

  • Jeez, and I thought Daphne's accent was TERRIBLE. Are British actors' American accents as poorly done?

  • @MargotVoguey

    eh? Jane leeves(Daphne) is English.

  • @rikmat123 I know, I found that out after I wrote that, silly me!

But that's not her actual accent, her real English accent is completely different, and much nicer.

  • The accents....Oh the accents..

  • LOL! I love the opening line... "A long time ago in a prep school far, far away." A very nice tribute to Star Wars!

  • Young Frasier and Niles are brilliant.

  • hahahahaha.... i spell colour with a "U"...Hahaha

  • thank you for uploading these :o)

  • The young Frasier and Niles weren't as spontaneous in their arguments. Still, it is enjoyable.

  • Young Frasier is repulsive

  • I love this episode

  • "I got her the most exquisite antique saddle."

"Really? How does it look on you?"

    LMAO. Poor Niles.

  • The Queen is useless.

  • Those actors are definitely NOT British. I refuse to believe it! They look distinctly American to me

  • Daphne's accent sounded worse in season 1 than here. She become better as the seasons progress. I think they overdo it on purpose.

  • Who cares about how good or bad the Brit accents are? That's not the point. The script is fantastic and I'm revisiting these shows for the first time in years and must now get the DVDs. Objectively, I think certain British comedies are the best still (I'd say this if I was not from England, too), but Frasier and Curb Your Enthusiasm certainly rub shoulders with them. Very clever and they work on many levels and, very importantly, translate beyond the nation they were hatched in. Great stuff!

  • @1965raj agreed!

  • "We Brits don't know the meaning of the word defeat"

"Oh really? Then I suppose you're not acquainted with that little spat we refer to as the revolutionary war!"

"Just like a Yank, insulting us Brits to cover up your inferiority complex"

"What exactly is it we should feel inferior about? Your pioneering work in the field of soccer hooliganism?"

Hilarious, I am British and yet I am totally on Frasier's side here!

  • those kids are very good, especially the closing scene. was spot on!

  • ....did he say cricket instead of darts? I'm from the north of England and we say darts here...huh...

  • american cockney accents always sound like they're out of the 19th century."dickensian "london i suppose.

  • The British accents and pub are nauseating to us brits. Even Daphne's accent doesn't really sound right. Jane Leeves is from Essex and her Mancunian accent isn't quite right.

  • Daphne was over the line with her foot at her first throw. Should've been DQ'ed! =P

  • this lunch is a culinary hindenberg!

so niles hahahhaa i can see him saying that grown up

  • Those kids they used were amazing! Unlike the kids they used in the 9th season's Deathtrap, these kids not only act and talk just like the grown Frasier and Niles would have as kids but they look a lot like them too!

  • That kid speaks with the same lisp the older Niles speaks with. Good job.

  • Loooooool 'i spell colour with a 'u'' XDDD that part cracked me up =P

  • Oh those kids are brilliant.

  • Roz looks beautiful in this episode.

  • Young Niles look so familiar, I kept watching his part over & over untill it finally struck me. He is Mike Newton from TWILIGHT !!

  • @whitelion1

OMG it is too he also played Artim in Star Trek Insurrection. Wow thanx for pointing it out.(It was really annoying me how familiar he was)

  • frasier and twilight do not belong in the same sentence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I so agree, twilight is the worst stuff I´ve seen in a long time.. and Frasier an old time classic!

  • @superflanalamangitus

    1) I did not put them in the same sentence.

    2) Nowhere in my comment was I making a comparison between that movie & this incredible show. I was just pointing out for anyone who might also be guessing where they had seen the young actor from.

  • i still dont like it...

  • they should've had more old frasier and niles prep school moments

  • @dmanninja456 My favorite is the one in Death trap. :)

  • Young Niles and Young Frasier are just hilarious!!!!! LMAO!!!

  • i dont even remember- what did i say that got removed?

  • do americans not say fortnight? did know that

  • what kinda fag leaves a hot girl becasue she lied about being an underwear model

  • Hey, that's the same piano I have - a Baldwin Acrosonic! Mine's even got the same music stand!

  • young Niles is great.

  • I think Frasier is one of the closest examples to English humor that we Americans have had. Most of our comedies are not nearly as well thought out as the British one's are. I love my country, just not a lot of our tv shows. Watch The IT Crowd and you will see what I mean.

  • @raspycellist I'm not American or British and I agree with you!

Frasier has got that old style humor (or humour) that very few US comedies have these days (no offence).

I think the only two American sitcoms that come close to British humor apart from Frasier are Roseanne and...yes...Cheers.

  • @sjcsiba

Frasier completely DWARFS 97 percent of today's television.

  • @raspycellist Have you watched Only Fools and Horses? It's my favourite

  • @raspycellist Not at all, Frasier is entirely classic American comedy, it's just not the kind you usually see on television. Read some theatrical comedies from the 40's until now and you'll see what I mean. British comedy is a lot more off the wall and farcical. Frasier's style of comedy is a lot more subtle, which is almost the trademark of American comedy, and the reason shows like Frasier and Seinfeld failed everywhere but the US.

  • @RichieEastside Frasier and Seinfeld Certainly did not fail here in Australia, possibly they may not have made it as big here, but everyone I know has watched and Enjoyed Frasier and although Im not a fan of Seinfeld most people I know watch and really like Seinfeld.

  • @RichieEastside Failed everywhere but the US? That's BS. Frasier's shown here in the UK every weekday. And when I went on holiday to Holland, they had it twice every night

  • @joevictor53 Maybe now that it's in syndication it might be popular, but during its time it really didn't catch on anyplace else. I live in Chile and it's on once a day at 8 am and I've never met anybody that's even heard of it. You're also the first British/European person I've ever heard say a positive word about the show. Chances are it's on a US owned cable network that just jams it in there to fill space, that doesn't mean it's on because of market demand.

  • @RichieEastside Nope. It's really popular here. The DVDs sales are really good as far as I know. Whenever I go into an entertainment store, the Frasier DVDs are usually gone. The channel they show it on is a channel which shows mainly UK produced shows but a few popular American sitcoms and other shows, e.g. Glee, Ugly Betty, Friends, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, Will and Grace, etc. Cheers didn't even get a proper DVD release. They released Seasons 1-7 and stopped. Frasier is popular here

  • @joevictor53 Well I guess you know better than I do, but it's the first I've heard of anybody outside the nifty fifty caring about it. In the US they show Are You Being Served? and Last of the Summer Wine and Keeping Up Appearances on PBS all the time, most people know about those so I guess it's not that surprising =)

  • @RichieEastside Really? Wow! I knew "Are you being served?" must've been popular in the US cos an episode of Frasier was named after it but I would've never thought Last of the Summer Wine or Keeping Up Appearances would be popular anywhere outside of the UK.

  • @joevictor53 Yea they show a bunch more of them too, but those are just the ones that I used to watch. We just got Mr. Bean in Chile lol They used to show Mr. Bean sketches in the movie theatre before the movies at Lichfield Cinemas (which was a chain of movie theatres in the us) but that was a looong time ago, back in the early 90's...I guess it just goes to show you how globalized the world has become, which at least in this case, isn't so much a bad thing.

  • @RichieEastside seinfeld subtle?? as a dead whale on the beach

  • @raspycellist

Have you considered shows like 'M*A*S*H 4077' and the recent hit, 'big bang theory' ? When Americans get it right, in whichever field of life, they get it very very right .
