can anybody help me my 5 months old german sheperd has a lump on his back its like a bruise but it dosent hurt him when i touch it that's what scares me please help me !!!
His gait looks off. He walks clumsily. At that age he should handle himself more regal. The person showing him has no control or knowledge of handling. If this is to showcase bred dogs, it's awful.
I have an oversized German Shepard, it weights 47Kg (sorry can't tell in pounds since im from Norway)
And in winters it can literally drag me on my mini sledge up small hills (But not many hills since I weight 83Kg myself)
German Shepards are very fun dogs, they are smart and they teach really fast. I do have problems though when i meet other dogs when I walk. All of sudden he sees another dog and he run towards them barking. I can't see what I've done wrong, he listen to anything else.
I'm getting really tired of all the Old Style, Old Fashioned, Original, Old World, Over Sized, Selah Shepherds. This is NOT the correct original shepherd. The original shepherd resembled a Malinois greatly- Not a St. Bernard or Alaskan Malamute. For those of you who would like to learn more about what these people claim to be breeding look up Shawlein.com Breed Types and Related Families. This site shows the CORRECT structure of Shepherds- Past and Present.
You might want to X ray this one. He's a long coat, as previous poster said, they don't get the full length until much older, but that's less important than his oversize and it looks like he's uncomfortable getting up from a sit. Tail is tucked and hocks together. A correct working German shepherd dog is not huge. This puppy has a pretty head, but that's about it. Hope he can walk when he is his "full' size. You never see any huge " Shiloh's" in patrol cars. Too fat and slow to catch anybody!
Watching this clip makes me feel sad, really hope this dog has found a good family to live with. I don't think you should be breeding, this dog looks stressed.
To me this is a joke! You should be ashamed! He is definatley not excersized well and plain to see has fleas!! My sheppard is 16 weeks old.. rings bell to go outside, shakes, sits, drops, holds food on his nose until I say he can eat, as well with his dish. He takes bike rides with me and mostly does all the pulling. You are not a good breeder!!!
Do you live in a trailer and raise dogs outside? Take better video if you expect to sell dogs. No one wants to see a bunch of trashy people and trash in these videos.
As with your other dog Ash, he may be a Plush coat. But ABSOLUTELY NO WAY WHATSOEVER IS HE A LONG COAT. Long coats are very distinctive in not only the longer length of their main coat, but also in the long fringes behind the forelegs, the haunches, their bellies, and their tails. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A LONG COAT, and you should stop mis-representing your dogs in that way.
@young95 Again, incorrect. See previous statement at Ash's link for comment, and also, the puppy depicted is only 9 months old, a long coat pup will not have an adult length at that age.
@LongcoatGSD.......I've been around longcoat GSD's since long before SV lifted the restriction against them, and I own one that just completed his SchH3 trials. It strikes me that you are using your own definition of "longcoat". I sincerely applaud and appreciate your efforts to restore the breed to the way they were before they were almost destroyed by the AKC, but I think you should adjust your definition to what a longcoat actually is, rather than what you would like it to be.
@young95 you need to stop being an asshole bro. Maybe you would like to to spend your precious time making videos about your dogs, instead of having no life and leaving bad comments on peoples videos that they work hard on.
Idk how the dogs are geneticlly but i would have to agree the shepherd in this video does seem to have a problem of some kind or its just too big. but it is a beautiful dog no dought.
u guys are fucken fags, these are nice old fashiioned german shepherds there not supposed to be slanted backs retards thats what causes the real problems in their bones. all these idiots are changing the breed standard and making them look crap, straigh tbacks and larger are the true german shepherd.
i visited your site.Your German Shepherd are out of standarts. This young boy on the video has a very nice head but the rest is not that good.He might have a problem with his hip joints.
@qtq000 ....I AGREE.... something not quite right.....as for CRAXOR01's comment---he sounds like he doesn't have a clue i mean, wots with the STFU comment??.....
This is not a giant german shepherd... we have regular german shepherds that are just as big and have had bigger, but they were not the "giants" either. A healthy GSD should be about this size at 7-10 months.
Longhaired GSDs always look larger especially when shown with a small person. Show this puppy with a grown man about 6' 180 lbs for a good comparison. My shorthair GSD female Layla at 10 mos. weighed over 100 lbs. She looks huge compared to my wife at 5'4'' 135 lbs. About normal compared to me at 6' 195 lbs. Great dogs GSDs super smart and with proper socializing can be taken most anywhere without complaint. I go to music stores and pet shops all the time with Layla. Always told very welcome.
It's exactly like my "shepherd". Mine though is too old and it has one day that it can't walk. I'm a little bit sad for that. Love it as much as you can. German Shepherd dogs are a gift to mankind.
I was thinking the same thing. The first seconds show how he is tucking his tail. There is no drive, nothing in this dog that would make want to buy him. No connection between handler and owner either.
How big was the litter that he came from?My GSD is 6 months old and already measures 27 inches at the shoulders. His father is 30 inches tall. My dog came from a litter of 2 so he was born big. Vet says he's already too big for shows and will be disqualified. I don't care. He's my PET and I love him.
Looks almost like a King Shepherd which is a slightly different breed. Less hip problems. Or could be a Shiloh Shepherd... or it's just a Really Big Shepherd.
It really depends. I've had excellent shepherds and I've had nightmares. Go to an excellent breeder and don't select a shy puppy. Also meet hte parents and socialize the puppy from 8 weeks constantly, you will have an amazing dog. There are some good rescues too. STudy their actions closely though with noise, adults, kids and dogs. The dog should be sociable and not hide or cower or be aggressive. Should be friendly. DOn't go by the dog's advertisement by the rescue. If its afraid, run away.
They are a very different type of breed, I love them but just know that some can be difficult to train and "spazes". I would not reccomend a GSD unless you have a large yard and a lot of time to spend with them.
almost 10 month he big!, love him =D and he seems so well behaved too , ma dog is still as hypers as he was at tha age and hes nearly 5, hes mental hehe
My uncle and Aunt had a Big German Shep named Hombre. He was awesome when I would visit, I was always nice to him when I was a kid, but my cousin would tease him, and pick on me. My cousin was treating me really badly one day until Hombre jumped up and took a nice little chunk out of his chest.
Your dog is named Duke? On the AKC papers for my GSD it says that his father is named Duke. Do you happen to live in Oklahoma or had your dog breed lately?
i have a 4year old normal size GSD and a 15 month old very large GSD. people are always asking if my older one is the duaghter, they are taken aback when i tell them that the bigger one is the puppy. i do want him to stop growing though as the larger size do suffer more with the bones later in their life.
I prefer these straight backs and dark markings. Our GSD was similar and he never had any hip problems. Coats need brushing regular. They are a good all round dog :)
What a pretty boy! GSDs are absolutely gorgeous; And, in my opinion, very intelligent and, therefore, a dream to train... Also, if treated well, they're wonderful family dogs - excellent with even small children!
we have a GSD puppy here in the philippines, Bruce, he's 7 months old and he's almost as big as this pup.. he's very playful.. almost scary sometimes, because of his size.. i think he has not realized how big he is yet.. his dad is a champion here in the philippines, he's also named bruce..
Please stop calling these giant dogs, "German Shepherds", even Ms.Lavesque stopped calling them that and calls then shiloh shepherds because they are so far out of the breed standard that they are now a new breed. They look like a real German Shepherd but 100% of the ones I've seen do not have working temperment. If you want to breed these guys, great, it's a free world but they are no longer truley a "German Shepherds Dog". Long coat or not is irrelevant, it's the size issue.
@BuzzTIB I have to disagree with you. European dogs are way larger than the one here in America. The old world GS was very large, starky, big boned dog, ment to work on the farm. If you train these dogs correctly they can work. Most Police dogs are the old world kinds.
@BuzzTIB A lot of people are starting to not like the standard GS. But they are German Shapsherds, they are what the GS used to look like. Seen a lot of them in Germany, love the dogs from Europe, so big, untouched and so very well behave.
used have a long haired german shepard ,died of old age recently ,best dog i ever had ..i have 2 short haired black and tan ones now.they are just as beautiful ,so intelligent..
He is gorgeous but a dog of this stature needs to be exercised. He needs stimulation. My GS puppy would not EVER stand that still. He is always moving, wanting to play. They are too smart for no stimuli. Train him commands and occupy his brain. Great baby though; just adorable like a HUGE teddy bear.
peoples is u think tht all american german shepherds have hip problems ur wrong cuz and all of them i have 10 of them and they have no hip problems even the 3 14 1/2 years old, BTW this is the best breed ever! and i love ur GSD my GSd was just like hat when he was about 8 months i love urs its soo beautiful bu needs training lol
Yeah, not all American German Shepherds get hip dysplasia and not all European German Shepherds are devoid of them.....it's just a horrible thing to see them suffer it....
Now, everyone has different opinion on what a dog should be like. If it were for the breed standard that Max von Stephanitz wanted (founder of the breed), then he would have desired the straight back German Shepherd(most shepherd dogs at that time had straighter backs)...since this gave it a more sleek look that could blend in easier with the herd. But, in any case, both European and American-German Shepherds are beautiful.
my dads x wifes mom had a 200plus king sheppard its not a reconized breed put there out there this dog was like a mastiff with out the head it was a healthy blood line looked better than most sheppards this dog was unreal i wish i had footage toronto canada
Beautiful dog. If I only had him but in perfect condition with he's legs straight and back strong but not lowered. And it's sad that I don't like how it's lower legs are and when he walks he looks to tight on the body. This dog sits down too much (abe) which I've seen it on another video of him) and it seems he might have a little problem with it's walking. This leads to a hip problem or legs.
I don't think anyone said these dogs don't diserve loving homes but breeding them just for coat and size is wrong.
This dog looks like it has a tight rear, making it harder to move, a roman nose which is a major fault, a flat back, the croup could be a little longer, the pasterns are a bit tight... Just a little critique. :)
Nice dog, but anyhow does not know the dog what he should do. Even a course should take part first in the woman before she educates dogs. He is totally intimidated.
I have a feeling that this GSD has hip dysplasia. Just look at the slow movement he has and he is shaky while moving with a little bit of bother in his hips.
that is a beautiful dog but can no longer be called a German Shepherd Dog by akc standards because i is too big. It is a perversion of nature and the breed to breed dogs primarily for size, and I hope that your dogs don't have the horrible joint deformities that I've seen in other "oversized" shepherds.
Abe is going to be hip tested before being bred and is out of an OFA male. He is also seen in another video running full speed and do not assume that because he is large he is bred ONLY for size, health and temperament come before that.
I just saw the other video, he looks fine. That is good that you're breeding for health and temperment. Too many breeders (especially in the American show lines) breed just for size or coat and have dogs with too high of a line-breeding (inbreeding) coefficient and bad helath. It's good to hear that you guys have your priorities.
Frankly, AKC standards shouldn't even have a word to say about the German Shepherd. Dogs conforming to these AKC standards tend to have more hip dysplasia than German lines. In fact, look at any American German Shepherd-the sloping back(which is normal of American German Shepherds) is a serious fault in European competitions and these dogs seem to suffer more from hip dysplasia than others. I have a German Shepherd from West German lines, with a straight back, that's how they should be. Later...
Yeah I agree with you there, my shep is also from "euro" lines and has good hips and a great temperment. She's got plenty of drive, which I really don't see much in the American lines.
Exactly, these european lines tend to be more stable, as temperament goes. I like both dogs, and I have been able to appreaciate both dogs...But regardless of where they come from, all of us good owners try and give the best to our dogs...and hopefully, live a long full life.
In case anyone is curious, we have pages on our site addressing our dogs versus our dogs versus Shiloh Shepherds and King Shepherds. With that being said, many people (particularly in our area) will refer to a large German Shepherd AS a "King Shepherd", "king size German Shepherd" or a "king German Shepherd", however our dogs are AKC registered German Shepherd Dogs, not ARBA King Shepherds.
German shepherds dont need to be fucking critisized by their fucking coats.
Theyre not fucking barbie dolls that u can just shut down the whole breed just cuz some of them have long coats. German shepherds are german shepherds. Whether they have long coats, whether theyre big or not, theyre still the loyal, gaurding, good family pets that made them so popular.
Fur doesnt change the breed. Grow up. If you dont like the dog then fuck u, dont look up shepherd videos then. :]
You're a pretty low person to have to resort to name calling. I guess you're just that kind person, real mature. :)
Oversized GSDs were made mostly by mixing huge dogs together like a malamute. There is no standard for the oversized GSD, just pet qaulity. Now if these were King Shepherds, they are recognized in the ARBA, but these aren't them.
For those wondering about Abe's tail, it is under his body because he is trying to sit...as you can see in the first part of the shot that is what he was doing and you can see his tail untucking slightly while standing and towards the end he sucessfully does sit. Had he actually been afraid, you would have seen him with ears lowered, cowering or slinking in addition to a tucked tail. Abe just wanted to sit and do his own thing in contrast to what we wanted him to do (stand).
all dogs can potentially complete a home... and they deserve the best from us!!! i can't believe some of the fucking snobs in these responces!!! whatever the case may be he is beautiful...
i hope the tail thing isn't your fault... n if it aint fuck everyone... some pups are just like that... i had a giant like him but his mama was still da boss, for my boy's sake that explainedthe tail... oh and he had 1/8 rott in him, explaining his size i think... mama was pure and half his size... she was smarter... he was stronger... but in the end who gives a fuck...
I'm sorry, but this GSD is NOT a GSD. A REAL GSD is not giant, oversized, fearful dog. They are medium sized loyal aloof dogs. Don't mix aloof with fearful.
Major faults on this dog. And what's with the plushy coat? Max didn't create this type of ugly dog... >_> You have shamed the breed.
A sitting dog with little energy combined with fast paced rock music talking about hurricanes doesn't make any sense.
Looks a handsome dog with his personality kicked out of him ...

that dog is scared and confused...look at it's tail tucked between his legs at 0:40
and the rest of the time he just wants to move away from you...
if you had put in the effort to train him and connect with him, you wouldn't have had to jerk at the leash all the time..
poor dog...I feel very sad for him...

they´re not good dogs, they are wonderfull dogs !!!
badamin78 2 years ago

MeggieMoo2keva 3 years ago
Now THAT is how a GSD should look !
Straight back, muscular, with a sound bone structure and broad breasted.
Powerfull, with a lot of stamina, but also fast and agile.
helmuthoorn 3 years ago

What is the SONG called????? ps.. I LOVE GERMAN SHEPHERDS! getting one soon!
MileyCyrusLuvr2008 3 years ago
Please stop calling these giant dogs, "German Shepherds", even Ms.Lavesque stopped calling them that and calls then shiloh shepherds because they are so far out of the breed standard that they are now a new breed. They look like a real German Shepherd but 100% of the ones I've seen do not have working temperment. If you want to breed these guys, great, it's a free world but they are no longer truley a "German Shepherds Dog". Long coat or not is irrelevant, it's the size issue.
BuzzTIB 3 years ago 2
BuzzTIB I couldn't agree more
sheeve07 3 years ago 2
@BuzzTIB I have to disagree with you. European dogs are way larger than the one here in America. The old world GS was very large, starky, big boned dog, ment to work on the farm. If you train these dogs correctly they can work. Most Police dogs are the old world kinds.
LittleImpaler 3 years ago
@BuzzTIB A lot of people are starting to not like the standard GS. But they are German Shapsherds, they are what the GS used to look like. Seen a lot of them in Germany, love the dogs from Europe, so big, untouched and so very well behave.
LittleImpaler 3 years ago
used have a long haired german shepard ,died of old age recently ,best dog i ever had ..i have 2 short haired black and tan ones now.they are just as beautiful ,so intelligent..
madmick080808 3 years ago
lol you and i would get along good i have one he is a short hair he is about a year and a half old his name is rocky he is just a great dog
Tinsleyboy214 3 years ago
He is gorgeous but a dog of this stature needs to be exercised. He needs stimulation. My GS puppy would not EVER stand that still. He is always moving, wanting to play. They are too smart for no stimuli. Train him commands and occupy his brain. Great baby though; just adorable like a HUGE teddy bear.

Yeah, not all American German Shepherds get hip dysplasia and not all European German Shepherds are devoid of them.....it's just a horrible thing to see them suffer it....
well, later.
axelbello99 3 years ago
Now, everyone has different opinion on what a dog should be like. If it were for the breed standard that Max von Stephanitz wanted (founder of the breed), then he would have desired the straight back German Shepherd(most shepherd dogs at that time had straighter backs)...since this gave it a more sleek look that could blend in easier with the herd. But, in any case, both European and American-German Shepherds are beautiful.
axelbello99 3 years ago
I personally don't much care for the sloping back, it makes me feel weird, but I understand it's a thing they get, some don't

AnimalsandNature 3 years ago
I don't think anyone said these dogs don't diserve loving homes but breeding them just for coat and size is wrong.
This dog looks like it has a tight rear, making it harder to move, a roman nose which is a major fault, a flat back, the croup could be a little longer, the pasterns are a bit tight... Just a little critique. :)
mjbgsd 3 years ago 2
that dog is a fucking beast, he's huge
Venturaskaterat 3 years ago
Nice dog, but anyhow does not know the dog what he should do. Even a course should take part first in the woman before she educates dogs. He is totally intimidated.
Blutengel1964 3 years ago 3
I have a feeling that this GSD has hip dysplasia. Just look at the slow movement he has and he is shaky while moving with a little bit of bother in his hips.
swamink1 3 years ago 3
that is a beautiful dog but can no longer be called a German Shepherd Dog by akc standards because i is too big. It is a perversion of nature and the breed to breed dogs primarily for size, and I hope that your dogs don't have the horrible joint deformities that I've seen in other "oversized" shepherds.
buckeyenation10 3 years ago
in fact it already looks like it is having a hard time moving around. notice how you never see it run.
buckeyenation10 3 years ago
Abe is going to be hip tested before being bred and is out of an OFA male. He is also seen in another video running full speed and do not assume that because he is large he is bred ONLY for size, health and temperament come before that.
LongcoatGSD 3 years ago
I just saw the other video, he looks fine. That is good that you're breeding for health and temperment. Too many breeders (especially in the American show lines) breed just for size or coat and have dogs with too high of a line-breeding (inbreeding) coefficient and bad helath. It's good to hear that you guys have your priorities.
buckeyenation10 3 years ago
Frankly, AKC standards shouldn't even have a word to say about the German Shepherd. Dogs conforming to these AKC standards tend to have more hip dysplasia than German lines. In fact, look at any American German Shepherd-the sloping back(which is normal of American German Shepherds) is a serious fault in European competitions and these dogs seem to suffer more from hip dysplasia than others. I have a German Shepherd from West German lines, with a straight back, that's how they should be. Later...
axelbello99 3 years ago 3
Yeah I agree with you there, my shep is also from "euro" lines and has good hips and a great temperment. She's got plenty of drive, which I really don't see much in the American lines.
buckeyenation10 3 years ago
This dog has no obedience though. A dog that big that does not obey its owner is a major liability.
buckeyenation10 3 years ago
Exactly, these european lines tend to be more stable, as temperament goes. I like both dogs, and I have been able to appreaciate both dogs...But regardless of where they come from, all of us good owners try and give the best to our dogs...and hopefully, live a long full life.

tobigforyou 4 years ago
In case anyone is curious, we have pages on our site addressing our dogs versus our dogs versus Shiloh Shepherds and King Shepherds. With that being said, many people (particularly in our area) will refer to a large German Shepherd AS a "King Shepherd", "king size German Shepherd" or a "king German Shepherd", however our dogs are AKC registered German Shepherd Dogs, not ARBA King Shepherds.
LongcoatGSD 4 years ago
hey hey woah there.
ilubabe12 4 years ago
You're a pretty low person to have to resort to name calling. I guess you're just that kind person, real mature. :)
Oversized GSDs were made mostly by mixing huge dogs together like a malamute. There is no standard for the oversized GSD, just pet qaulity. Now if these were King Shepherds, they are recognized in the ARBA, but these aren't them.
mjbgsd 4 years ago
Why would you assume because a German Shepherd is oversized that it is mixed? Our dogs are not, they all GSD.
LongcoatGSD 4 years ago
For those wondering about Abe's tail, it is under his body because he is trying to sit...as you can see in the first part of the shot that is what he was doing and you can see his tail untucking slightly while standing and towards the end he sucessfully does sit. Had he actually been afraid, you would have seen him with ears lowered, cowering or slinking in addition to a tucked tail. Abe just wanted to sit and do his own thing in contrast to what we wanted him to do (stand).

mhess69 4 years ago
i hope the tail thing isn't your fault... n if it aint fuck everyone... some pups are just like that... i had a giant like him but his mama was still da boss, for my boy's sake that explainedthe tail... oh and he had 1/8 rott in him, explaining his size i think... mama was pure and half his size... she was smarter... he was stronger... but in the end who gives a fuck...
mhess69 4 years ago
some people on here seem to view animals as commodities rather than living beings which isn't good!

I just got my GSD, he just turned 7 weeks today and now i know why people say that they are the greatest dogs
Buffaloguy1987 4 years ago
I'm sorry, but this GSD is NOT a GSD. A REAL GSD is not giant, oversized, fearful dog. They are medium sized loyal aloof dogs. Don't mix aloof with fearful.
Major faults on this dog. And what's with the plushy coat? Max didn't create this type of ugly dog... >_> You have shamed the breed.
mjbgsd 4 years ago
it's a kgsd if that abbreviation exists. king shepherds are not the same dog as german shepherd's but ignorance is bliss as always.
