  • I would say that is lazy singing !she is great and she can sing betta

  • gotta admit that she's a tad off on this one.

seen her life myself at the nsj this year and i do have to say she sounded way fresher.

  • New music from Sandra St. Victor of The Family Stand!

"At My Spheres" produced by Mark de Clive-Lowe. Check out her websites, Facebook & Twitter. SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC.

  • this performance wasnt bad yes the background was on point but chaka was good too so i dont get some of these self proclaim critics i like it!

  • This is NOT a good performance from Chaka at all. Especially knowing that she is capable of far better. I don't understand what happened with this particular performance.

This song is a staple in her repertoire. This should have been a walk in the park for her. Maybe she was just sleepy or something. What ever the case...It wasn't good.

  • @SEFYH this is an amazing performance. you just don't understand Chaka's style. She uses jazz phrasings and timing. something that the average ear wouldn't understand.

  • @TheCmelmoneyman I am very much familiar with Jazz phrasing and time, being I'm a musician myself. This CRAP performance has nothing to do with the above. Chaka Kahn herself has admited to singing off at times. If you don't believe me, just pull up her live performance with Kanye West singing the hook to his version of "Through the Wire" and you'll know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. It's because of my TRAINED ear that I can pick up on her flaws. Sorry, but this performance was not good PERIOD.

  • Although I have CD's and albums of all four of these beautiful great singers, I have only seen Chaka Khan perform live. The audience that attended this concert got alot more than their money's worth. I wish that I could have been there !

  • Chaka was actually lazy the whole song. From top to bottom. She might just be sick of singing it. I know I would be.

  • yeah, it's really the great background vocals by Audrey Wheeler, Karen Bernod and Sandra St. Victor that shine in this performance

  • In vocal jazz, scat singing is vocal improvisation with nonsense words and syllables or without words at all. Scat singing gives singers the ability to sing improvised melodies and rhythms, to create the equivalent of an instrumental solo using their voice

  • I appreciate the souful and jazzy rendition of this song live. Other artists have tried to sing their version of this song. But there is only one Dear Sister Chaka Khan. Go on Sister put your stamp on this live version of this song I love it!!!!

  • Chaka is the bomb for real but she might do well to enunciate a bit more when she sings live. And who's Karen Bernod anyway?

  • A jazz influence sacrifices the words for the melody. Its called improvisation.

  • Improvisation is when you stray away from the main melody of the song, using its chords as a guide thereby stamping your individuality onto the song. Listen to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan if you want to know what I mean. Sacrificing the words is called mumbling.

  • I've listened to more than Sarah and Ella. There are more greats besides them. Betty Carter's My Favorite Things, particularly when she hits breakneck tempo, is an example of what I am geating at.Scatting itself sacrifices the words but maybe thats just mumbling too.

  • I'm happy for you - and I agree that the list of great jazz vocalists is longer than just the two I mentioned but you don't seem to understand my main point even though you just made it for me. Scatting is one thing, what Chaka was doing there is another thing completely.

  • In vocal jazz, scat singing is vocal improvisation with nonsense words and syllables or without words at all. Scat singing gives singers the ability to sing improvised melodies and rhythms, to create the equivalent of an instrumental solo using their voice

  • You keep making my point for me. What Chaka Khan was doing on that video - I'll remind you that the video was shot during a time in her life when she had, shall we say, certain substance misuse issues - was mumbling and not scatting. I have the utmost respect for her as a singer (and for you for your detailed knowledge about her backing singers) but the truth is the truth. Now go away and leave me alone!

  • how hard is it for everyone to admit this is a performance where she was getting lazy on the scat. she indeed attempting to scat, but its not on the ball. i've seen her nail her scats, not here. love her.

  • scat singing is vocal improvisation with nonsense words and syllables or without words at all

  • To comment on Chaka and not know Karen Bernod? Karen Bernod is one of Chaka's background singers whose sang with her for years.

  • No, I did not know Karen Bernod was one of Chaka's background singers. You obviously have a lot more free time on your hands than I do and I thank you for the education on that particular fact. Not knowing does not disqualify me from commenting on Chaka Khan though - unless you know and the rest of the world know the names of the background singers of all the vocalists in the Top 100.

  • Our back and forth reveals we both have free time. Me knowing who Karen is just says I know something you didn't - Chaka's background singers.

  • You are absolutely right. On both counts. Bake yourself a cake or something.

  • CHAKA IS THE BOMB you fool!

  • why does she sings like a slaughterd pig here?? it sucks big time! i like more when i am listening on her cd's
