  • Well MasterSgt, I finally figured out why it would not prime. Turns out after some trouble shooting it had a bad primary power cable that ran to the starter from the positive battery terminal on the passenger side. I also had loose ground connections I was not aware of. Just to be sure I removed the Brand New starter(lifetime Warr.) and took it back to Adv. Auto Parts. They Mgr tested it, it was fine, So now after everything is back together the starter/flywheel teeth are not meshing. Wh

  • @aboonski Master Sgt, What do I do to fix the non-meshing flywheel/starter?

  • my sub has an electric fuel pump under the body about half way back on the passenger side frame rail.

  • Master Sergeant, Just finished up charging both batteries back, they are holding at about 13.2 to 13.6 each. Have not hooked them back up to see if they spin the truck over or not. It is cold up here and we are expecting light rain. With that weather the batteries are cold and would probably not do well trying to purge the system/start it up. I will keep you posted on the situation and hopefully post a video.

  • Master Sergeant, I tried your method here on this video and it did not work on my '89 6.2 suburban. I did not get a prime and ran my two optima red top batteries down. I am located up here in western NC and we have ice and snow coming on Monday. I need my truck good to go before then. Can you please help me figure out why I am not getting a solid prime on this fuel system? Do I need to back prime the filter manifold to try and force the air to the top?

  • @mountainman28713 I don't think there's a lot of difference between the military version of the 6.2 and the civilian version other than the possibility that you might have an electric fuel pump in your gas tank in vice of the mechanical one on the military truck. I am planning on installing an electric fuel pump up by the fuel filter on my truck to further enhance the priming sequence and to use as a "back-up" in the event my mechanical one ever fails.

  • @aboonski If you can get an electric fuel pump, try placing it in-line in the fuel line just before the filter which would force all the air out of the filter without having to crank the motor. One of my friends has a diesel Suburban that probably has the same type of filtration system that you have and I'll get with him to see if there is a difference between my military truck and his civvy vehicle. Be sure nothing is obstructing the purge valve when it is open - that could be the problem.

  • @aboonski I just checked with my buddy who explained that one of his trucks had a faulty bleed valve that he had to completely remove before any fuel/air would come out and that might just be your problem. Try pulling the bleed valve thumbscrew all the way out to see if you get any fuel flow.while cranking the motor.

  • Thanks for the useful info, jus bought 1 of these. Can't wait to get it cleaned up

  • i need to find the filter box to replace the one on my 1985 chevy

  • This helps. I need to do this my self.. Question: how do you open the valve? is it the black twisty thing on top? And do you close it after its primed? thanks

  • @SHEP1739 You have to turn that black knob counter-clockwise to open it which will allow the fuel to run through the filter and out through the line where I have the clear plastic hose attached. The other end of the hose goes into a soda bottle or jar. You disconnect the pink wire and crank the motor until you see s steady stream of fuel going into the container. Once you have about an inch of fuel in the container, stop cranking and turn the black knob clockwise to close the valve.

  • @SHEP1739 They don't quite give you enough characters to finish technical stuff like this. Anyway, I put the bottle up on the windshield so that I can watch the fuel go into the container. When you remove the clear fuel line it will leak diesel so cover the end with your finger and funnel it into the bottle. Replace the pink wire on the injector pump and start the engine.
