This isn't new technology: Take any working steam locomotive, don't put fuel or water in it, just pump the boiler to full pressure with air, (there are many values to connect to, pick one.) Now, drive it down the tracks like normal. A late model mainline locomotive will have no trouble doing 20 miles with no modifications. If you want to get fancy you can take the fuel box out and put in a higher pressure boiler and you will have created a 1920 era mining locomotive.
I just wish they made these cars NORMAL LOOKING. I understand that they have to be lightweight, etc., but there's a line to be crossed. Those little boxy things aren't even safe on American roads. A strong storm blows through Florida and you're done for. You can't see out the back window, too many blind spots. Is there enough room for a car seat, or 2? Just pointing out the other reasons why these cars will never sell in the US.
@gladitsnotme It is a prototype. They aren't know for being well looking. Look at the electric cars of before, and the electric cars of today. Huge difference.
It's all about exploring the tech, pushing the limit and look to the future.
@henriko95 If that's what it's "all about", then there's no use in making them, since no one will buy. These things are supposed to replace current cars, to save the environment, etc. If engineers are just treating this as a play-toy project to kill time, they need to quit. Make a normal sized back window or GET OUT, I say.
If it's simple, I would think with some engineering and mechanical knowledge one could try to build it himself and see if it works. I don't want to hear about how green technology is a scam because oil and everything in the modern world is a scam. Don't get me started you naysaying anti-green technology smear campaignists! Air power, water power, hydrogen power, electric power, mind power, it's invented and waiting for us to awaken and use it. You can't keep me asleep. Stop being a tool.

So you are admitting you have zero engineering or mechanical knowledge, but you know this air car con is the answer. Based on what? Dowsing? Good idea, but compress the ai, put it in airtanks, and then put them into the car's tank uses 3 times more energy than simply put electricity into batteries, just as hydrogen does. Google it and you will find the numbers.
Its not a bad idea, but compressed air cars are not the solution for long term environmental plans.

kind of like the carburetor that was invented back in the 20's that could get a car 120 mpg but was suppressed by big oil. They killed the guy who invented it & stole the technology. The only reason people know about it is because of insiders who leaked the info.
@wingnut4427 - I think we have our wires crossed. I assume you have removed your original comment. That patent isn't for a carburettor as per your original comment.
The stoichiometric ratio of fuel to air cannot be altered. Lean burn does not allow 100miles per gallon.
@junkshopfilms To store 14.3 kWh at 300 bar in 300 l (90 m3 at 1 bar) reservoirs, u need at least 93 kWh on the compressor side (and 14.3 kWh is the energy equivalent of less than 1 l of gasoline): Hahahahah!!

This report from the BBC is interesting. CNN says the car will be built in each country it is sold. But this report from the BBC says that the company has an Indian backer and will be built solely in India. So who is telling the truth? In the CNN report there were a bunch of Japanese getting ready to build the car in Japan for the Japanese market!
Forget the oil/gas companies, we need this now. Who cares what it looks like. But since there are alot of people who do care what they look like. Remake old cars like chevy's and etc. So people can ride the same as they do now just eco-friendly. & Sale it for like 100 dollars.
No, the air IS the gas. Given that the electricity is from an environmentaly sound source the process is totally free from any form of polution. The exeption being, of course, the production stage of both the car and the compressor. As far as I know, that stage of the automobile industry has, surprisingly, always been the most polutive... It's been said that you can never run a car far enough to even come close to the polution that has been let out during production.
Air compressors run on electricity too, you won't have a gas tank anymore. They're also developing the air compressor in the car to charge itself with the air it takes in, so that you will never have to fill anything up at all, and therefore not have to use electricity either.
what ever, mock up or not, it is about time someone showed the oil countries they can not blackmail us forever with the oil, so I say yippee, they will lose billions.

So wait a minute. The air is compressed in a compressor that runs off the exhaust from the car, and that will make enough to to run the car.
So what about the energy lost through friction, in the bearing, from the tires, from air resistance?
