Garland Jeffries should have become a much bigger success story. His voice is great, looks excellent & his material compelling at times. I just can't figure this music industry that believes it knows better than we do. You have to promote in order to let the public become aware. Cat Stevens and Robert Palmer had to try twice to succeed. I guess they got it all wrong the first time eh? Not all get a second chance.
If anyone has a recording of GJ's riveting rendition of Mystery Kids at Pinkpop 1980 (or was it 1981?), please post it! I recorded it on tape from the radio but played it so often my tape broke...
You chose an awesome song by an awesome artist for your first foray into you tube. I haven't got my feet wet yet. Congratulations to you! You done good!
thanks for posting this! I heard this on WXRT Chicago a couple years ago and thought I was hallucinating.....hadn't heard it for years. What a timeless classic, what a great song
WOW - Thank you so much for posting this video. I loved the song when it first came out and still love it. I was always expecting to see a live video of this song on youtube form Garland Jeffreys (guess not) But thanks to you ...you made my day. Gee, I'll have to include this to my myspace page. This song ROCKS !!! and now, so do you !!!
Well, so am I, at 56. Maybe that's one reason I like it so much ;-). But when you look around at kids these days: "...and get them a piece of the glory" - dated? "I dedicate this album to the continuing fight against racism" - dated? I believe good songs - and this is one - reach far beyond their own time. This is very different from being an "oldie" fan, which I'm not.
great. one of my favorite tunes. but, one must admit, the whole package (album cover, personnel listing, and song) is very much a period piece. very "dated." a genuine blast from the past.....................
The best thing about new technology is that it gives us a chance to listen to old songs that absolutely blow away the crap that's out there today.
