They sat there for a few minutes with their talons locked and then the one that looks a little more beat up got away and flew off. The other one stood there for about 2 more minutes recovering and took flight too. Trust me, I've seen the mating ritual of Bald Eagles and this was not it. I think it was most likely a territorial dispute.
they're not fighting, their talons are locked from the eagles' courtship ritual in the air, they obviously couldn't separate in time and hit the ground still locked together
