  • 1989 was a sad year for game shows, first NBC lost Pat Sajak on WOF, SALE/SUPER PASSWORD ended on NBC, CARD SHARKS ended

  • I was watching the best of 80's game shows on GSN, and I remember one of the producers saying that the head executive of CBS saying the biggest mistake he ever made was cancelling this show.

    Thumbs up if you agree.

  • Was Richard doing Empty Nest by this time

  • @tpir1972 Yup, Empty Nest had already started airing... :)

  • Bob got tear-eyed when the netowkr show ended after at least 1 year, Newlywed Game and here Card Sharks.

  • I'll bet Eubanks is still steamed at CBS about cancelling his show?

  • What happened to Richard Mulligan?

  • @danbarker39 He passed in 2000.

  • I wouldn't actually count this as the finale, I count the GameShow Marathon episode from 2006, which stayed true to the original format.

  • @johnissoevil True... at least that showed you didn't need to mess with the format.... Dismantle, Fremantle, or what ever their name is did their best to screw up so many games that didn't need to be 'freshened'...

  • "Card Sharks" was replaced by "Now You See It" (hosted by veteran KNBC news anchor Chuck Henry) on CBS' Daytime Schedule.

  • At the tail end of the clip, you can see a close-up of Bob Eubanks' emotional smile to the camera. We missed seeing such close-up when GSN last aired the finale in January 2006, though GSN did air the finale in its entirety (fee plugs and credits intact) as part of the Y2Play marathon on New Year's Eve 1999.

  • @McBearPEI I think the cut out was a promo for Murder She Wrote

  • That was sad ...

  • VIdeotape really sucked didn't it; we didn't know just how poor the quality was until DVD though ..

  • The series finale is also the same episode as the infamous "Peckerhead" incident. Earlier in the episode, Bob made a crack about Chuck Henry going after his job.

  • The final CBS Card Sharks episode had a contestant plug for their San Diego office. As to why they still gave contestant info like that when the show was getting booted, I'm not sure. Super Password also had ticket/contestant plugs on its final week the week before Card SHarks.

  • @zachhoran if you want to be a contestant on Card Sharks forget it!

  • @McBearPEI Just checked the tape... WOW... I can't believe I just glossed over that... Its definitely worthy of posting... I'll post on the next go around! :)

  • @McBearPEI Cool... I'll check it out...

  • @McBearPEI They did? Where does GSN start the 3rd segment?

  • @WREYtube You said "Card Guppies" Hahaahaahahahahahahahah. You right, though. The 2001 version's was like clogged septic tank. In a word, UNBEARABLE.

  • @blaqice88

You are absolutely right, it is truly dreadful that revival was.

  • THat looks to be from the NYSI89 pilot, as the rounds in the championship round on the series were 200 300 400 500 600, no $100 round.

  • @zachhoran ZHIFOS.
