because there seems to be a discussion on this page regarding the overall views of this band because of their symbolism. folks, so many bands and artists may have symbolisms in their presentations or music but that doesn't mean they are racists (and i can't speak for every band out there because some are). Glenn Danzig uses alot of occult symbolism and says some really weird out there stuff (i know because i've heard it up close) but do i think he's a racist? no..just confused (haaa!!!)

I don't understand why everyone has to talk about the cultural importance (or lack thereof) of this band. Who cares if "hipsters" like this or not? I'm not a particularly huge punk fan, but this band has good energy and interesting sounds. You might not be in love with vocals or the guitar work, but I think they have an interesting aesthetic. None of us can say when this band will die out, or whether punk is dead or not. Music keeps splintering out in all these different directions.

There's a definite divide between those that see music as a popularity contest and/or horse race and those that're only listening to or writing about it because they love the experience and want to share with anyone that'll listen. If you can only listen to the big names in punk hardcore you have definitely been reading a) too many hyped up reviews b) thinking that punk should have a basis on how good the musicians have to be or c) haven't been looking for new music. I remember when punk was about the message not the musicianship

Absolutely not. The band was "punk as fuck" because their attitude and their fanbase disappeared in favor of a less harsh aesthetic. Where Iceages fanbase used to consist of rockers and metalheads, it's now Pitchfork listeners and hipsters. Still, the music is great.
