i agree Hirst isn't worth a penny, but you're missing decades of art history on your comment, tons of different artworks, hundreds of artists, dozens of peculiar philosophies behind again dozens of movements. you cannot look at Hirst (neither in a positive or negative way) without knowing modern art an what led to contemporary art. you cannot compare "then" with "now" without knowing what has been going on in between.
