  • Why can't we have music like this now?

  • takes me back in time, when music, really meant something, and the beautiful girls,i dated, and new, thanks to all of them, for being part of my life, and all the singers, and groups.of that time, thanks a million, the music back then was awesome,,,

  • Thank God to YOU TUBE and these guys.

  • waited over 30 years to find this thank you

  • R.I.P. Sir Jimmy Saville.

  • Classic. Great voices and a superb piece of social history with the vid

  • This was my first record. It came with a wind up record player from a jumble sale.I had to hold a piece of paper against the needle to hear it and slow the deck down with my finger. So this not only was my first ballad but also my first rock record if I left it going at 78......And you tell the kids today and they wont believe it..But its true I swear.

  • one of the best songs ever, i bet lennon & mcartney wished they had recorded this

  • @eamonv4victor I'm guessing not. Reason: if they really wished to, they would have.

  • The world is no more or less crap. The difference is that we are now bombarded with information 24/7 and so we get to hear about all the bad stuff. Previously we were left in blissful ignorance

  • now the now then jewellry, jewellry.

  • just found this and reminded of me of the merseybeat, yes you are correct afterwards the world turned to crap. I had just come back from18 months backpacking from france to singapore and never had any trouble. Am I just getting old or was the world a wonderfull place then. It was a lot smaller place then. I travelled the world from 1963 until 1971 to find and enjoy other cultures, waste of time because now if I stand on a street corner the world walks past me

  • Did he go onto present play school?

  • @keefyboyofmk Yes and Play away too

  • brilliant how there was so much treasure on initial b sides. Had Romeo lived to middle age he would have sung it daily

  • OMG - first time I've heard this in five decades!

How embarrassing is that video? never saw it at the time but it has to be one of the most cringeworthy on YouTube. Still, great song and Lionel Morton has an outstanding voice.

  • Yep i used to know these guys as the Lionel Morton Four, they played aroung the East Lancs are in the early sixties, they also played on a couple of works trips to Blackpool they were good no doubt about that,Lionel was a choir boy in the Cathedral choir,Fritz Fryer had a sister,a hot little thing who lived on Alexandra Road in B/Burn,great days hope ffor sure, it dont hurt to much Azanti i was in the same spot so to speak mate,Was your mum called Julia or Julie?

  • Lionel was probably my first crush! Respect to Azanti

  • beautiful song; Great Band......Thanks!

  • TERRIBLE SONG but some nice equipment.

  • OMG, Four Pennies, Searchers, Dave Clark 5, Lovin Spoonful, Cliff & Shadows, Billy Fury, Adam Faith, Long John Baldry, The Big O, Tommy Steele, Lonnie Donnegan, Sputniks, Gerry & Pacemakers, Gene Pitney, takes me back to a wonderful age. Fab harmonies and haircuts. Justine Dealey plays them and many more of that age on Sunday afternoons on 3 Counties radio.

  • Is that Sebastian Coe playing the drums ?

I went to school in the 60s with a girl who claims this was written for her sister

  • @Clarice444 No the drummer is Alan Buck, who is since deceased.

  • @Clarice444 if only, the bastard might be dead now.

  • Is that Sebastian Coe playing the drums ?

  • brilliant.thank you for sharing.

  • This reminds me of a special person in my life all those years ago , beautiful song, beautiful 60s.

  • Is This from a Movie?

  • What's the title of the film in which this was? I saw it once, but I don't remember the name of it :/ COuld you plz help me out?

  • @RonaiHenrik It was called "Pop Gear". You used to be able to get it on amazon, not sure if they still carry it.

  • Omg what show is this,it has the best video links to all the good music the world left us.Its a not shitty version of MTV,now sadly most music is trash.

  • life was so simple back them...drugs were "innocent"...no crime like today...etc etc etc miss my childhood in the sixties...I am Braziliand (lived in the US for 24 years and miss it). Here crime is terrible..f...drugs......really miss those days...

  • The Four Pennies were the most important UK group not to chart in America during the 1960s British Invasion.[citation needed] In their homeland, the group was famous for having a Number one hit in the UK Singles Chart in 1964 with "Juliet". It was written by Fritz Fryer, Mike Wilsh and Lionel Morton. The ballad was originally intended to be released as a b-side (b/w "Tell Me Girl").

  • @Onlooker1959 It was released as the B-side and my copy on Phillips it is the B-side later pressings it was changed to the A-side. We perform this at every gig we do and it goes down well. I am from Blackburn and my parents were friends of his parents.

  • I used to work with a guy called Malcolm who said he wrote this song, does anyone know if this is true ? he lives in Dymock, Gloucestershire.

  • this announcer is marty fieldman that played the hunchback in the melbrook movie

    YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN" STEIN

  • @divine6699

Noo, lol it's British DJ charity running, cigar smoking legend, Sir Jimmy Saville.

  • My God I miss the sixties. I`m an old man now but but those were my days and I loved them.

  • beautiful,,,i wanna travel back in time.

  • Wow que hermosas voces y musica !!

  • I still play it on my old Danset.

    Golden sound.

  • The lead singer, Lionel Morton, is not Ben Fogle's dad. If I remember rightly he went out with Julia Foster in the sixties and she went onto marry Bruce Fogle, who is Ben Fogles dad.

This is a beautiful song, very well sung. Well done Four Pennies .

  • @muddlepond He was married to Julia Foster but you are correct about not being his father

  • what the hell?! how did they have high definition in 19 whatever?

  • Now playing it twice.

  • Bought it twice and still play it

  • Nice melody. This song and "He's in Town", by the Rockin' Berries are incredibly melodic and memorable. Great vintage pop music!

  • Poor kids. I can just hear the director telling them how cool it will be having them wander around that stupid fountain while miming. Geez.

  • Fantastic :):)

  • magic saw them at the accrington young conservatives club and blackburn mecca rotating stage and all

  • Great Song. I loved it back in the 60's and I called my first daughter after it. She has never known. Some songs stay with you forever

  • I still have the original 45rpm of this, it doesn't sound as good as this though, I haven't got my old Dansette though!

    They look so young now!

Great stuff mate, cheers for sharing this 5*

  • I thought I knew every group of the 60s but The Pennies I had never heard before...

  • This song was always exquisite, and should be viewed in its 1960's context.Thank you for posting it. It reminds me of first love at aged 14....sigh!

  • Fantastic song remindes me of the summer of 64. Before the world turned to crap

  • @SJW439

oh yeah the world was a real paradis before 1964...what an idiot

  • @ThisIsBilbo

How sad that some people resort to verbal abuse to others opinions of songs.

this is another example of the stupidity of people commenting for the sake of

    being abusive.

  • @SJW439 It wasn't the world that turned to crap, it was the humans.

  • My father Lionel was from Blackburn in Lancashire.

He had numerous affairs over the years, and I was the result of one of those.

Hope that clears that up for you.

  • Great! Had forgotten this!

  • this is a good group, how come they are not well known like other groups from then. Thx.

  • Fantastic U.K. # 1...Tanxx!

  • This song was HUGE when it came out. Horrible pancake make-up they made the lead singer wear.

  • @Azanti Was he called Lionel Moreton or something like that and did he live in the stafordshire area?

  • @landofrainbows yes thats him, it was spelled Morton, and he came from Blackburn.

  • @Azanti MINE TOO

  • @Azanti Great song! Your Dad did a great job singing this song. Four Pennies may be my favorite British group after the Searchers. My best to your Dad and thank him for all the great music. I am 64 years old so I was there when it all got started. take care,

  • Thx L....I had forgotten this one...loverly!! Good old Jimmy Saville (owzabout that then?) Must say, the stage setting is hilarious!!!

  • Great song but the guy talking at the beginning, has weird looking hair.

  • thats the famous jimmy saville,

  • @jackhead8 Great to see Jimmy Saville! He was always a bit weird and way out for his time, but a very nice man - I read his bio years ago. He did a lot of things for charity. He comes from my neck of the woods in West Yorkshire, and was often seen around Leeds drivng his Rolls Royce! He once had his hair blonde down one side, and black down the other!

I love this song! The blk & wht clip I saw in UK in 60s just had the group standing fronted by lead singer in shades. He's dead now I heard.

  • Superb sentimental sixties tune. They dont write them like this anymore.Simply timeless.

  • My Wifes Mum is a very good friend of the Bass player....This is quite Funny stuff!

  • @OutbackBros Would that be Frances?

  • Nice water fountain...:-O

  • I Love this song !
