I saw wicked in 07 with Block as elphie. I think idina does a great job, but the first person to play a role isn't always the best, but usually the most remembered because of all the press.

Also, listen to her second "down" and compare it to Idina's.

From what I can hear, its like Stephanie and Idina go for the same little riff, except Stephanie hits it so you can hear the individual notes, where as Idina sort of mushes it together.

@bastiantotalhappy She's "famous" for saying "its me" as a scream, rather than being sung.

Also, I think it's a lot better screamed, it adds to Elphaba's emotions of defying the wizard and pronouncing her place.

I guess she still sings it, but it's less "sing-song" than the Elphies do it. Nontheless, its original and I love it, because it helps build up to her superb "so if you care to find me, look to the western sky".

well okay I didn't hate her. that's going a bit far. I never saw her do Elphaba live but I did see the tour trailer with her and I didn't like her voice that much. 9 to 5 is what really helped me see how amazing she is and I fell in love with her then. SO THERE!

Don'e worry...I didn't like her singing initially either because I had become so accustomed to hearing the OBC recording with Idina. But after a while she grew on me, and now I shake my head that I actually thought anyone could sing better than SJB.

well I had seen other people play the parts and never saw the OBC so I was used to hearing other people, I just didn't like the way Steph sounded in that tour trailer, but she's way better in any other video and in 9 to 5, just WOW!
