Why did she always impersonate Marlene Dietrich or Marilyn Monroe back in the day? It was the one thing about her that wasn't original or groundbreaking. Paying tribute is different from a flat-out impersonation.
@DaxShaw so when she was first out with big hair, bangles and crucifiexes....was she ripping off marlene or marilyn....hmmmmm, she made a name for herself before she was chanelling anyone else...
@DaxShaw It wasn't always. Just sometimes. And she was awesome doing that. But she did have her own style, that's what she was known for. This footage is not fro her beginning, she was already a superstar here and she was free to do anything she wanted, like taking elements of other known stars and making then her own.
@DaxShaw just because it's blatant impersonation doesn't make it any less of a tribute. she had her reasons for doing it, just because you don't like it doesn't make it a rip-off or a copycat move. all artists and i do mean artists and not just singers, do stuff like that all the time, big deal so what.

i clearly recall the "Fever" lyrics flub on that Arsenio Hall AIDS fund raiser,
that was the year that Madonna had a ton of backlash from both her SEX
book, and her Body Of Evidence film. that was a TOUGH year for her, and
her flubbing the lyrics to Fever was just another example of that awful year.
but....i'd say she came out all right, and all the wiser for it. she did redeem
herself with the song Fever when she sang it on SNL in 1993. love her!
