  • May I ask who her breeder is? It's so rare to see a working merle dog!

  • she's quick! nice dog :)

  • Do u have to train them or are they just bred like that?

  • @fireballfury1 .....BOTH. First, the dog must be bred right. Then, the dog must be trained right. "Working Border Collies" are bred to work livestock and to mind their master....without fail. If either of these traits are missing then the dog will only make a good pet, if you can keep up with it.

  • 56 cows/calves as of this morning.

  • how many cows do you have?

  • You should see her now. She's older, wiser, and loves her work.

  • thats a brave dog

  • wow what a smart dog you got there.....i always wanted one of these dogs...

  • thats a border collie

  • i agree with a few of the post on here i have border collies and yes they will be 2 steps ahead of you if u let them...very good breed loyal and smart and better than any burgler alarm on the mkt lol...

  • cant wait till april i can get a dog for my bday gonna look into getting a collie sweet dogs and trainable

  • She is to affraid

  • Your dog needs to grip a little

  • I love to watch BC's working. I own one but have no stock to wotrk her on...she just turned 1 yr. old and is full of life...Molly is her name.

  • Borders and even some border crosses are the most amazing dogs. Sam is almost 6 and is still teaching me what he knows, and letting me teach him what I know. Working cows looks like it is less the border collie stare, and more the body position and the leg nip that the cows learn to respond to. Some tend to be more verbal as a method of control as well. I was scooting the cat out one day with my foot, and the next day, I saw Sam do the same thing to the cat with his paw. Smart or what!

  • That's one happy Border Collie. Very few get to do what they were bread for.

  • On the other hand, BC's will herd almost anything. My BC is a city dog, but gets more exercise than most working dogs because I live on a large corner lot with a fenced in area. My BC only comes in at night to sleep but otherwise she is outside herding trucks, people walking dogs, etc. She burns so much energy that I feed her 2X the recommended amount and she is still thin. She absolutely loves what she does. My backyard has trails through it where she runs from side to side and along each fence

  • i know it depressed me with mine, there is a farm nearby im considering getting goats next year cuz theyre like 100 a peice just so she can run them and stuff

  • I'll never forget the day I let our beautiful "Rocky" go, but even as a 10 year-old I knew he'd be happier on a farm. He was a stray we picked up in the middle of winter in northern Minnesota (freezing cold). He loved his self-appointed job babysitting my older sisters and me. He would look for any danger, and if any of us fell down, he would use his nose to pry our faces up to make sure we were ok. Absolutely the most beautiful, smart canine family member Ive ever had.

  • lmao the cows are like leave me alone im going already hahah

how in the world did you teach your dog to do that.....

  • you don't have to teach them ..its in their nature. I'm no expert either..i have a border collie and am learning everyday something new. Border collies are ranked the smartest dogs on the planet.

  • @bboyillscience I have an 11 month old tri colored aussie.....also an amazingly smart dog!

  • yes they are

  • Gorgeous girl you have there, and smart too! I just love this breed. If I had a farm or some way to exercise their mind, I'd definitely have one. As it is, I'm afraid my quiet life would bore them to pieces. :)

James Herriot once said that this was his favorite breed. He said they were just amazing to watch... anyone can see why.

  • Is that a Border COllie?

  • Yes, Blue is a registered ABCA border collie. The color is blue-merle.

  • She's a wonderful dog! Thank you for sharing your videos of her at work! Inspiring stuff!

  • VERY HANDSOM DOG ~ pretty merle!

blue merles, red merles, black/white, red/white, and sometimes tan are all natural colors of border collies. black/white, red/white are most commonly called BC colors. ;)

  • hi, blues a diamond, real quick dog, i've got a border collie called ben, he's 2 now and shows a lot of hope for this kind of work.

  • Wow! Thats one sharp dog.

  • Blue is both talented and sharp...she seems to be very gifted...what a blessing she is to both you and your heards...fantastic video thanks for making it!!!

  • lol...blue herds better than I spell!

  • You should see her now! Age and experience has created a dog that *thinks* before acting. She knows when to be forceful, when to be gentle, and when to be tricky. Best of all- the cattle trust her, yet obey and I don't have to fix fences like I did with a different breed.

  • does everything but close the gate!

  • what a blessing blue is to you...you are so fortunate..thank you so much for sharing this...blue is wonderfully made indeed!!!

  • Heh. I think that our New Zealand Huntaway gets a bit carried away when I let him herd. He continually circles the cows and calves, and will only stop running if I give him the right whistle.

  • what an amazing dog! I have a blue merle sheltie named Pongo who looks just like Blue. I bet he'd love herding!

  • Isn't he just great. Has he worked with sheep at all? What unusual colouring. Thanks

  • She looks like shes having fun. I love doggies. :P

  • Good girl! Good job! She does seem to lack confidence but that's nothing that can't be remedied by more experience. Or maybe the camcorder was just distracting her??? Either way, looks like you have yourself a nice chore dog there. Cheers!

  • looks like u got a great family dog aswell,,i bet she goes in the house ,,

    great footage

  • She is gorgeous...I have a brindle BC because i love the color brindle because of my pitbulls...I needed something to herd my pitbulls in the kennel after shows... so I got Skye and she is perfect

  • dangerous ?! lol

I have a border collies and she never have a éducation about sheepdog, it's genetics ?!

please saw my videos about my dog ; write "igmalec7" in the search and saw that.

  • i have to give my bc away tomorrow but she is going to a farm to live with her vet .sigh too much energy for the burbs i thought she was a rough collie mix they really mislabled the temperment on her i miss her allready

  • Hey, these dogs have way too much energy for living in the country, much less in the city! That little mind of hers is working all of the time and if I don't keep her busy or keep her with me, she will get into trouble, for sure!

  • what line is she out of?

  • I have seen some dogs get a little trampled but they seem to get out of the fix pretty easy. Your BC dog is trained really well I'm sure she'll do a great job. this is what the Border Collie is meant to do and they all look happy doing it

  • and SOME Border Collies were bred to herd cattle. There are different lines with slightly different lines. In general they were bred for sheep herding. Somewhere along the lines the strong cattle line came through from either kelpies or CATTLE dogs. Which is generally where you get the prick ears from

  • Your dog has great working instinct. However I think it is somewhat careless of you to work her on cattle. She doesn't seem very confident. She's herding cattle because YOU are telling her to. She's unsure whether to bite them or not. It would be a shame to have her get kicked by a cow at such a young age. I dont know how many times i counted where one of the cows could have kicked her if they wanted to! It's honestly careless...very careless

  • Blue is a working cattle dog bred from working cattle dog stock. No bones about it- she is not a pet. With experience, she has learned to use finesse rather than brute force, although she can get quite forceful if the cattle don't cooperate. You wrote "I don't know how many times i counted where one of the cows could have kicked her". Fact is, she "almost" gets kicked daily, sometimes many times daily, but thanks to good breeding, great agility, and lightning reflexes the cattle always miss.

  • I would never herd cattle with my border collie. I know she'd do it and she'd do it just fine, but I would never want to take that risk of her getting injured on cattle. She's 1 year and 3 months old. She's decided she's a herding dog and an agility dog. Already amazing at both. Almost 100% agility trial ready(just need some weave pole work) and sooo close to herding trial ready.

  • I can see where you are coming from but border collies are also bred for herding cattle. They have the agility and reflexes to not get kicked. I have only seen one border collie who was hurt by a cattle, and he recovered within a week. I'm sure Blue's owner has taken her safety into consideration. He is, after all, her owner, caregiver, and trainer.

  • Blue is gorgeous! I absolutely love to watch Border Collies doing what they love to do...they are amazing. We lost our Border two years ago -- he was such a great dog and so, so smart.

  • your welcome!

and keep up the good work (you and Blue)

    :D

  • What a beautiful dog! I have 4 Borders and 2 are blue merles. They will do anything for their owners, the truly are the best dogs!

  • Thanks for the comment. Blue is still a young dog and learning the ways of cattle. She gets lots of work, on a daily basis, and she gets better every day. It is against her nature to defy me.
