Dinosaur Jr. just has all kinds of crazy elements that somehow work... Hippy dippy guitar that turns into raging disaster solos that somehow make any song great, punk rock power drumming, bass that sounds like sludge, and vocals that sound like someone in pain. Ladies and gentlemen, you will never see a band more out there than Dinosaur Jr. There will never be a band like this ever again. Long live the Dinosaur.
Everybody is trashing the Foo Fighters because they fucking suck. Dave Grohl used to be cool, but then he cut his hair, started acting like a demi-god, trash talking modern day music, and every Foo Fighter song of the last 5 years sounds the same. They've become the new Nickelback of rock. Fuck Dave Grohl. Pretentious fuckhead.
"you dont live there anyway, but i knock on it all day", i always loved that line... and J's solos are so satisfyingly blistering they give me a buzz...
This sounds so much better live here than on the recording. Saw the vid years ago on a late night mtv and loved it but missed the track name, forgot about it then found it on youtube recently- havent stopped listening to it since. Amazing song blows me away to DJ land where all is good
@CommanderC00L558 I'm actually in Detroit. But Bob wasn't coming to Detroit during the District Line tour. So, I decided to do a three-day roadtrip and see him in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Cleveland. It was early March 2008 and I don't know if you remember, but there was a major blizzard that buried the city. So I ended up driving through a couple feet of snow to get to the Grog Shop and join the other ~20 idiots who made it to the show...... great times
@wdrauch And yes... it was FUCKING incredible. But they didn't play the wagon. But I got my DJ shirt signed and talked to J before the show. I also thought I saw Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon. :P
that its the legacy of nirvana, the most important thing that they do... bring the underground to the surface...... NIRVANA NOT THE BEST BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT.
I went to see them in amsterdam, when I was 16,16years ago,and the bass player didn t smile during the whole concert,so I went to him at the end and I m like :"You could at least pulla smile"and he did this huge grin for me ,what a bunch of souvenirs
About the Foo Fighters: I like a lut of there stuff, but I don't love it. I think Dave Grohl is an amazing guy, drummer, singer and guitarist, but bands like Dinosaur Jr. sound just more 'real' to me (amazing performance!).
Btw: listen to the first Foo Fighters album. it's simply called 'Foo Fighters'. Dave made it all by himself, when Foo Fighters was still the one man project he started after Nirvana and not a band. I think it's really great ;)
Agreed. The first Foo album is the only "rough" and "real" sounding one. Everything else they've produced, while often good, has been very polished and rather boring, IMO. Foos can't stand next to Nirvana or Dinosaur Jr.
Totally agree with you, all dinosaur's stuff are a bit better than foo's, because they're more direct, some of the last albums of the foos are too perfect, although dinosaur jr keep their noisy and dirty sound, and yes the first foo fighters album maybe their best !
Why is everyone trashing the foo fighters on a Dinosaur Jr. vid? Seriously, different bands, different sounds, different styles they can't be compared. I swear some arguments on youtube are idiotic. Just enjoy the music. And in my opinion, Dinosaur Jr., Nirvana and the Foo Fighters are all amazing bands, so stop whining and just enjoy the sounds of the bands.
nothing against the foo fighters but comparing them to dinosaur jr is honestly a disgrace..and im not trying to be a pompus asshole..their music is just powerful and on such a higher level
how refreshing to hear someone criticising the foo's, they wouldn't b worth shit if it weren't for the fact grohl was in nirvana, dinosaur jr are one of if not the best from that era
True, I liked Dave Grohl in Nirvana, and he seems like a pretty cool guy... but I hate, hate, HATE his music. The Foos and Nirvana don't even come close to J, Lou, and Murph.
in a perfect world, bands today would have the same integrity as dinosaur and that generation of indie rock.a huge sigh for the days when dinosaurs ruled the earth, :)
wish there was more footage from this gig. I know Feel the Pain and Never Bought it is on youtube, but was wondering if there are more from this. The sound is way better than the bizarre festival 97 footage.
Not saying anything against Dinosaur Jr. but does anybody think that they remind you of Foo Fighters? I know Dinosaur Jr. had that sound first but when I hear them it reminds me of Foo Fighters.
what the fuck are you saying? this is 1991 i think, and it's probably from the year punk broke ducomuntary featurin' nirvana and sonic youth tour in europe in summer 1991...directed by dave markey
he is a good drummer, but i saw him fuck up live one time in chicago with j and watt. other than that though he pounded. those guys were laughin about it.
I saw these guys with the Cure on the Wish tour and while the Cure were typically good, Dinosaur Jr B blew them off stage. And yes they did play Just Like Heaven and it rocked hard! Love these guys and I am glad that they are back!
im pretty sure that was 97. i was there, went specifically to see DJ. they played for about 12 minutes all up, but it was worth it. they fuckin rocked....
